After burrowing into the past for almost a decade, the Pikmin series pops out of the ground once more this week with the release of Pikmin 3.
It's odd that a franchise so accessible to children also contains some of the most horrid abominations ever hosted on a Nintendo console. It's alarmingly easy for the fun of collecting cute, inviting Pikmin to give way to the sudden discovery of a form of wildlife that mercifully only exists in fiction. In a way, that bait-and-switch of security to dread is almost part of Pikmin's charm.
