Upcoming Toyota Supra To Possibly Sport Edgy Twin-Turbo V6

Toyota Supra

From 1978 to 2002, Toyota Supra has been a darling of sports cars connoisseurs and it's much missed since the icon Nippon automaker stopped its production in August 2002. However, rumors are ripe of late that a new Supra clone is soon to vroom the markets & Toyota hasn't exactly denied such talks. Moreover, the Japanese auto giant's partnership with none other than BMW has further fanned the fire. Currently, speculations are on rise that the much awaited new Supra is to sport the edgy twin-turbo V6.

Coded as "943F" the latest V6 engine will mostly power the affordable Supra versions while the top-end models will have a hybrid performance-focused drive train. The 6 cylinder engine is designed to amaze with more than 400 hp & 300 lbs of torque at its basic configuration – courtesy dual turbochargers. It would spin the car's rear wheels, however, the transmission options are unconfirmed till now.

The futuristic BMW Z4 would be sharing the basic framework with Supra but the convertible won't have Toyota's new 6-cylinder and would bank on in-house turbocharged 4 & 6 cylinder engines.

However, the new Supra is not the one to inaugurate the twin-turbo V6 and it's most likely to be debuted by next-gen Lexus LS in the early quarters of 2017. Nearly all luxury automakers today are taking to 6-cylinder engine backed by forced induction. While Toyota has earlier had the turbocharged inline-sixes yet it hasn't ever come up with a factory turbocharged V6. Of late, each automaker is seen to downsize engines to meet up with the fuel economy & emission regulations & it would be a welcome move on Toyota & Lexus' part to follow suit.

In the words of the CEO of Supra Trader Online, a leading Supra dealer-"the new Toyota Supra would possibly arrive in 2019."

Although inspired by Toyota Celica in its styling yet Supra had always been able to stand out with its own aura in the auto market within a few years of its genesis. No wonder, we had Supra appearing in several popular movies, TV shows, music videos & video games. Some of its most remarkable appearances include "The Fast and the Furious" series, Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, Forza Horizon 2, Midnight Club etc. The arrival of the upcoming model is sure to be embraced by such massive support.
