How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

If you want a router that is fast, easy to set up and future-proof, the ASUS RT-AC68U is up to the challenge. It not only offers fast speeds, but offers them on the N and AC bands to ensure connectivity for all your devices -- present and future.

It's easy to get started with the AC68U, thanks to an "easy to navigate" interface that Expert Reviews says "includes some extremely useful features" while Trusted Reviews says ASUS "must be applauded for the ease of its setup." Experienced users need not worry, as TechRadar notes that "advanced options can also be found from this same interface," including features that PC Mag says are "not found in all consumer routers," like "parental controls, QoS, firewall, and security." CNET notes that it even "comes with a few new business-oriented features ... including support for dual-WAN and a set of network tools." Ultimately, TrustedReviews feels that the AC68U "ticks all the right boxes."

One of the boxes the AC68U ticks off is speed, with Tom's Guide calling it "the fastest router we've tested on both AC and N bands" and saying it "blew me away." CNET also says it's the "fastest Wi-Fi router I've tested to date," and TechRadar calls it "hella fast." And it not only goes fast, but pretty far too, with CNET liking its "exceptional range."

The RT-AC68U is sleek and sexy like a race car, but with an interface that even amateurs can navigate with ease. One thing both beginners and pros will appreciate is its ability to get you where you need to be at blistering speeds, all for a reasonable price.
