Engadget Review

The ZenBook Duo is a solid attempt at delivering a dual-screen ultraportable. Using both screens is intuitive, and it can be genuinely practical for multitasking. But ASUS had to make compromises to fit those screens, especially when it comes to the keyboard and trackpad. It’s also heavier and thicker than any other ultraportable.

Asus ZenBook Duo is an interesting spin on the classic laptop form factor, with two screens and huge amount of firepower. Having said that, it feels like there are a few too many compromises made to house the ScreenPad Plus which doesn’t feel like a part of the primary screen. It’s a bit bulky and the second screen doesn’t quite justify those compromises. A shame.

Overall, the ZenBook Duo is something of a flawed genius. The packaging is clever, the performance and build quality are good, and the pricing is attractive. However, it does have some serious shortcomings that can be a dealbreaker for some people ― namely the less than ideal keyboard and trackpad positioning and layout.

Is having the ScreenPad Plus worth the ergonomic tradeoffs? Sadly, the answer to that question is no. The keyboard and trackpad are just too awkward and uncomfortable. We had a very hard time getting basic work done, and our productivity did not increase.

I can see a dual-screen laptop like the Zenbook Duo, even with it software bottlenecks, make a lot of sense for graphic design and video editors. But instead of opting for 14-inch entry-level model, I'd suggest you pick up a variant which can handle heavier files better.

If you are searching for a new laptop and like the idea of having two screens to work with, the Asus Zenbook Duo will be a great one to consider.

The best thing I can say about the ZenBook Duo is that I know I truly love a laptop when I'm sad that I have to send it back. And I've been despondent since I sent the ZenBook Duo back to ASUS. Perfect it isn't, but I love it anyway.

As an everyday laptop, the UX481 does the job well. It handled all of my everyday Windows apps with ease...

If you travel and like to save space, then the ZenBook Duo makes a lot of sense. If you have table space to spare, however, then a standard ZenBook 14 and a proper external monitor would get you further.

The Asus ZenBook Duo UX481 is the best dual-screen laptop yet, combining good battery life with an intuitive UI in a 3.3-pound package. Just know that the keyboard and touchpad suffer greatly to make room for the second display.

There’s not another laptop like the ZenBook Duo, except for the larger and more expensive ZenBook Pro Duo, making this a uniquely useful option.
