Going by its first trailer, Dragon's Dogma Online plays much like its name indicates. The newly unveiled RPG allows parties of up to four players to take on a variety of monsters, small and large - sometimes very large. Like in the original Dragon's Dogma, players can cling to bigger beasties and get their Wander on, as you can see in the video below the break. Along with the video, new screenshots some of the "Online" side including towns that players can congregate in and the chat windows pictured above. Finally, the trailer confirms initial reports that Dragon's Dogma Online is a free-to-play game for PS4, PS3, and Windows PC, and that it's coming to Japan this year. According to Capcom, a Western release isn't in the company's plans.

Japanese PS4 owners won't try out online RPG Deep Down until next year, after Capcom pushed back its open beta into 2015. As Siliconera reports, director and producer Kazunori Sugiura said Capcom needs more time to test things out before launching a public beta. Remember, this beta was originally due around the time of Japan's PS4 launch in February. Capcom released new footage of the free-to-play online RPG, showcasing teams of two and four players taking on all manner of enemies including one huge monstrosity that looks a bit like a cross between a turkey and a crab - a crurkey, perhaps. Give it a crurk in the video below the break.

Bits, bytes and silicon transistors? Boy, you have it good -- back in 1953, state-of-the-art computers were made of gears, sprockets, chains and cams, and we trusted them to accurately wreck lives with ginormous naval guns. If you're wondering how that could possibly work, you don't have to go far -- a series of seven videos after the break show you how it was done, and which might even ingratiate you with the grizzled old neighbor who desperately wants you off his lawn.

Beware the old gods, travelers. While the ground you trod upon currently may well seem solid, danger lurks at every turn, waiting to turn you into deity-kibble! But if you love all things fantasy -- and love the idea of supporting indie studios -- then the upcoming MMO being developed by Cyberdemons and released by Kalicanthus Entertainment, Craft of Gods, may be something you want to look into. Currently in an open beta phase, Craft of Gods is based on Slavic history. Yes, indeed -- this means gods with enormous elemental smitey-hammers -- and the humans who dare to cross their paths. In short, the perfect types of stories for heroic tales told by firelight. In terms of recent updates to the game, players will notice that the UI has been revamped to make it more user-friendly, and a bunch of close-combat animations have been added in since we last touched on the game's development. If you're curious, be sure to check out the shiny new screenshots below, or pop over to their site to sign up for the beta. But you'd better get a move on if you're after beta love -- the game is set to launch on May 27th, with those who pre-order landing a wild-looking mount, a flame cloak, and an epic weapon. %Gallery-89418%

With only 1000 in existence the Gears of War 2 COG tags are some of the most sought after bonus items to acquire for any Xbox 360 game, and now X3F now has two. This tag, coming from a small stockpile of only 30 in Canada, comes straight out of Toronto and enjoys hockey, Tim Horton's coffee and the Toronto Maple Leafs -- as bad as they are, unfortunately. Want to unlock its secrets? Check out the Gears of War 2 COG tag 'Last Day' site to find out what this tag reveals. Punch in the CSID #: 777150-V2V3U-EL and unlock the mystery within ... spoiler, it's a rad wallpaper image of Marcus Fenix pulled from the Last Day trailer.Make sure to check out our hands-on with Gears of War 2 Act One today!%Gallery-35591%

  • Gears of War 2 and the extremely giant COG tag

Tucked away in the dark, at the far back of E for All is a fair-sized Gears of War 2 booth with many stations showing off the Horde mode, and handing out COG tags. However, these are fairly normal sized tags, about the size of a dollar coin. So what's up with this image of a giant COG that looks like it could serve as Sauron's ring?We asked one of the community managers at the GoW2 booth, and he said, "Wait... did you see this image recently? A huge COG tag that's thick and made out of metal? Yeah, there's a big announcement about that coming out. I can't say anything about it really, but keep watching the website all weekend. And no, it's not something you can buy. It's made of metal, is thick, and weighs about two pounds."Is Epic hiding these in the world somewhere, and there's a contest to find them? Are they items you can win based on your in-game performance like those rings they added to Madden? Is it just a huge paperweight? We'll keep watching the site, which yesterday put up a blurb about COGs. How convenient. What do you think it is?[Via JoystickWidow]

  • Cog grinds its way to .06

Shaun Martin drops a note that Cog, an open source audio player that plays pretty much every format you'd want to play (I don't know if I'd ever need to play anything in Monkey's Audio but sure enough, it's there) has hit version .06. The release features a brand new UI (with two pullout drawers-- one that browses the filesystem for music, and another that pops up to show info on the playing file), plugin support, preferences (including builtin global hotkeys, which I really enjoy), and everything else you'd expect in an audio player-- Growl support, Last.fm support, gapless playback, and more. The only little flaw I can find is that there seems to be two Help menus-- maybe the Cog guys just want to be extra helpful. At any rate, if you're looking for a quick and free little open source audio player as an alternative to Apple's iPhone Activator, Cog will probably turn your gears.

Reader Zhyane of House of Marama on Medivh sends in this screenshot highlighting all of "the little cogs of the game are working and how insignificant what the player base wants is." And, admittedly, looking down on the Tinker Town section of Ironforge makes me feel awfully small. (A player could easily get crushed in those giant gears -- and for my part, I'd blame the gnomes.)Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth or Outland that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com! Or perhaps you'd just like to see more of your pics from Around Azeroth. %Gallery-1816%

  • Trouble finding those COGs? We can help!

Over the holiday break we were diligently trying to locate the last few COG tags in Gears of War so we could get those special COG achievements. And we still haven't succeeded. But, after beating the game in both hardcore and insane difficulties and coming out with only 28 COG tags, it still just sucks. So, after some quick Googling we've stumbled upon a few great resources for those of you who need some help locating those tags. First, here are some written instructions that explain which act and chapter each COG tag is located and a short description. Second, above is a YouTube video showing each and every COG tag location in the game ... and comes in at a relatively low six minute watch. Hopefully these two information sources will help those of you who can't get those COG tag achievements, and if not .... well then you're screwed buddy.

  • Cog: open source audio player

Lots of people bemoan the fact that iTunes doesn't offer support for some of the more obscure audio formats (most notably Ogg Vorbis). Most people who care about Ogg support tend to be fans of Open Source software, and probably aren't thrilled with using iTunes anyway. Luckily for them there is Cog. It is an open source audio player for OS X that supports a boatload of audio formats, though its feature list isn't quite as long as iTunes.I suppose you get what you pay for, oh wait, iTunes is free as well (though decidedly closed source).[via HiFi Blog]
