As someone who won't turn down an invite to a barbecue, the one thing missing in my life is a grill. That's the part about living in New York City that saddens me. So, when McCormick invited me to check out its new concept grill, the SUMR HITS 5000, you know I couldn't say no. Much to my disappointment, because the event was indoors, there wasn't any actual grilling involved. Still, it was a good opportunity to see the SUMR HITS 5000 in person, which features a built-in DJ station that can play music based on what you're cooking. The grill uses a mix of capacitive touch sensors, computer vision and machine learning to do this, and McCormick says it custom developed the hardware and software to show how to "combine the fun of music and act of grilling together."

You may know DJ Jazzy Jeff as Will Smith's musical partner from back when he performed as the Fresh Prince. You may also know him as the guy who Uncle Phil threw out of the house all the time on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Now, younger people (who, ironically, just won't understand Jazzy Jeff's catalog) will know him as that one guy in DJ Hero. Activision announced that DJ Jazzy Jeff will be joining DJ Shadow, Grandmaster Flash, and the rest as a playable character in the turntablism game. He has also contributed two song mash-ups: Tears for Fears' "Shout" vs. Eric B. & Rakim's "Eric B. Is President" and LL Cool J's "Rock the Bells" vs. The Aranbee Pop Symphony Orchestra's "Bittersweet Symphony" (the original instrumental track to which The Verve added vocals). Gameplay video of both mixes is available after the break.

... or, more aptly titled, the Guitar Hero World Tour Launch Party sponsored by Best Buy, Jack Daniels and Coca-Cola. If that's not the longest-titled event we've attended, then we're not sure what is. (Although you're in trouble, Guitar Hero, if the Japanese game Tohoku Daigaku Mirai-Kagaku-Gijutsu-Kyodo-Kenkyu-Center Kawashima Ryuta Kyoju Kanshu: Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training ever has a launch party.)We were inside the midnight sale / launch party at Best Buy in West Hollywood last night, where DJ Jazzy Jeff opened for the Smashing Pumpkins. Several bands were in attendance, along with the requisite roundup of actors and actresses from the Hollywood alphabet list. Head after the break for highlights and a full rundown.%Gallery-35402%
