Galaxy Note 10.1 just hitting shelves, already said to be rooted
Only two days after Samsung announced the availability of the Galaxy Note 10.1 (and its source code), it appears to already have been rooted. An XDA user named Zedomax claims to have pulled off the feat by injecting root into the stock European firmware, then installing the superuser'd version in conventional ODIN fashion. With the usual bricking caveats, that'll let you start installing unsanctioned apps to the pen-enabled beast, while apparently still getting OTA updates from the mother company. We'd love to verify it ourselves with our own GT-N8000, but we don't have one yet -- and neither does hardly anyone else, so you may want to wait for some other brave soul to confirm it before going ahead.
WiFi certification fuels speculation of Samsung Galaxy Note successor (updated)
The Samsung Galaxy Note is just now working its way to the States, but a recent certification by the WiFi Alliance is already stoking the flames of its replacement. Known only as the GT-N8000, it's thought this device may be the eventual replacement for the GT-N7000. Of course, this isn't the only plausible explanation, as the new model number may hint at yet another new family of devices. There's credence to this flow of logic, too, as the Galaxy S II (i9100) was the spiritual decedent of the original Galaxy S (i9000). Whether your preferred method of divination involves tea leaves, crystal balls or Cleverbot, one thing is certain about this new Sammy -- it's gonna be 1,000 more, y'all. Update: Apologies for the crossed wires, as we reported last night, the Samsung GT-N8013 also recently hit the FCC, and is presumably a variation of the GT-N8000.
Samsung GT-N8013 'portable tablet' hits the FCC, reveals few details
No big CES product reveal here -- just the usual line art and test reports found in your average FCC filing. In this case, it's one for the Samsung GT-N8013, an as-yet-unannounced device described as a "portable tablet computer" in the FCC documents. As PocketNow reports, however, the very same device also recently received WiFi certification (along with a presumably similar GT-N8000 model), where it was listed as a smartphone (there's also a reference to "phone model" in one of the FCC docs), leading to speculation that it may be a successor or variation to the Galaxy Note (which was the GT-N7000). All we know for sure at the moment, though, is that the device packs Bluetooth connectivity and dual-band a/b/g/n WiFi -- and that it's rectangular.
