"I was a bag of bones. I looked like walking death, and I knew it." By now the trials, and redemption, of Johnny Cash are well documented. Whether it's 2005's Walk The Line or, most recently, Ken Burns' Country Music, it's not hard to find a detailed account of the career of the Man in Black. What many of them don't offer though is Cash's own perspective on his life -- both the highs and the lows. With Emmy-winning director Thom Zimny's The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash, we get just that. And the impact is more haunting and inspiring than any other time these stories have been told.

Are you a fan of the arakkoa, World of Warcraft's avian humanoids? Blizzard Game Designer Don Adams and Associate Quest Designer Johnny Cash are betting you are, which is why they've brought back the sqwawking Burning Crusade beasties in Warlords of Draenor, complete with a "fancy new model." In a dev blog posted today, the duo discuss the Spires of Arak zone, in which the arakkoa aren't quite as evil as they later become in the BC timeline. Over the course of the zone, you're helping [a] shady resistance group of cursed arakkoa to make their final stand. You're learning about the curse they bear, the ancient gods of their land, and the very real threat posed by the Adherents of Rukhmar, the ruling caste of zealous arakkoa in Skyreach. Your adventure leads to two climactic events in the zone: one involving the plight of the outcasts against the flying arakkoa, and another focusing on the Shattered Hand fortress of Bladefist Hold. Of interest is Cash's note that players can choose to "construct an Inn to help [them] house more soldiers and supplies or a Trading Post to establish trade agreements with friendly locals," thereby unlocking unique questlines and gaining access to special perks in the zone, like quicker hearthing and easier access to rested experience.

I hope this signals the beginning of a trend in seeing Johnny Cash-related machinima. God's Gonna Cut You Down is WoW music video for the song of the same name performed by Johnny Cash. This is the first machinima created by Kidsake, which makes it even that more impressive. The imagery and flow of this video is awesome. I love the techniques Kidsake used in this video. The color images contrasted against the grainy black-and-white film is a powerful tool, and I like that the still-frame cutouts give the audience a chance to really check out each portrait. Johnny Cash was an amazing musician and brought a lot of depth to the folk song. I think Kidsake did the song justice with his video. The moody, somber colors all speak to the same kind of pensive, threatening tone used by Cash, and the violent battles are complimented by God's Gonna Cut You Down's fierce and unyielding lyrics. Ultimately, this video is just great stuff, and I look forward to seeing more Cash songs turned into video. Kidsake, obviously, should be well received and hopefully he'll keep creating new films. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.

  • Guitar Hero 5 allows song imports from previous games, features playable Johnny Cash

We've been blown away by the effort Activision and Neversoft have put into making Guitar Hero 5 actually worth playing -- but their most recent move may be their wisest yet. A recent IGN preview of the title revealed the game will allow players to import "some" of the tracks from World Tour and Smash Hits into GH5 (and Band Hero) for a small fee. In addition, 125 of World Tour's 128 DLC tracks will automatically work in the two upcoming rhythm titles. Of all the features to borrow from Rock Band 2, the removal of bothersome disc-swapping is one of the best. For those who aren't particularly thrilled by this piece of news, try this one on for size: Johnny Cash will be a playable character in Guitar Hero 5. There's a video of the black-suited man performing "Ring of Fire" after the jump. We suggest checking it out -- but only if you like things that are completely badass.

The red ring of death is something no 360 gamer ever wants to see. However, every time you turn around you seem to hear about another one being sighted somewhere. In fact, Microsoft ran out of boxes to return them in. It's there a secret cardboard shortage we don't know about that's even more dire than the oil crisis?Xbox 360 lover Jeromy "Doc" Adams lovingly paid tribute to both Johnny Cash and the console in his Ring of Fire song. We know you'll appreciate it. Think this thing is getting any airplay up in Redmond?[Via GamerTagRadio]

The Sarcastic Gamer Jeromy "Doc" Adams knows the pain some have had to go through with their 360's red ring of death experiences and, like any creative genius, decided to use the pain as inspiration for his latest song parody. Jeromy recorded "The Ring of Fire" which is quite an entertaining version of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" with lyrics inspired by such 360 failures. We don't have much more to say other than to head over to his site and give the song a download. Seriously, it's very funny and very good.
