LG one of the few making money from TVs as profits triple
While LG's earnings and profits are dwarfed by Samsung, at least it has some bragging rights this quarter. Unlike its Korean arch-enemy, LG actually made money with its home entertainment and display division, which it chalked up to better sales in large TVs. In fact, the company claims it now sells more big-screen displays than any other, including Samsung, with a 27 percent share of the market worldwide. That helped contribute to 14 trillion won ($13 billion) in total sales, with an operating profit of 504 billion won ($471 million) -- triple what it managed the same time last year. (For a sense of scale, Samsung pulled in around $52 billion dollars and made $8 billion or so in profit.)

LG G Pro 2 review: new year, new Note contender
The large-screen smartphone market is now one of the most fiercely competitive in the wireless industry. But even though nearly every phone maker has produced a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note, only a handful of products have actually been worth considering. LG's Optimus G Pro, a 5.5-inch flagship introduced last year, was one such exception. A year later, its 5.9-inch successor picks up where the first Pro left off, adding enough extra firepower to take on the Galaxy Note 3 spec for spec. The LG G Pro 2 may very well have what it takes to stand up against its big-screen rival, but it'll have to overcome a few minor obstacles in order to succeed.

Knock, knock. Excuse us, we're just unlocking LG's new G Pro 2 with some light taps from our fist. Yes, the Korean company's showing off its 5.9-inch flagship here at Mobile World Congress and its once again gunning for rival Galaxy Note 3's place in the spotlight. Aside from sporting a de rigeur 1080p display, the G Pro 2 comes loaded up with Android 4.4 KitKat, 32GB of storage and a 13-megapixel rear camera that's primed to shoot video in 4K.
