Are you still on the fence about purchasing Guild Wars 2? If you've been holding out for a deal, this might just be it: Newegg.com is offering GW2 for $12 off the standard edition. The standard edition of Guild Wars 2 is normally priced at $59.99, but with this promotion, you can pick it up for $47.99. To get the discount, you'll need to pre-order it through Newegg.com (obviously) and use the following promotion code: EMCYTZT1867. Students. PCs. Free Xbox 360. The Redmond team's at it yet again. Similar to last year's deal, Microsoft's hooking students up with a 4GB Xbox 360 if they drop some cash on one of its Windows machines. It's simple: shell out over $699 on a PC, or $599 if you're in Canada, and you'll be walking out with a shiny new console free of charge -- naturally, you'll have to do so at participating shops such as Best Buy, Fry's, Newegg, Staples, The Source and, of course, Microsoft's own stores. The promo is set to kick off here in the States on May 20th, while those living in the True North can take advantage of it starting today. And before you ask -- yes, you will need to show your scholar credentials to get in on the bargain.

And it's on sale now from none other than NewEgg, as linked in the source below. *Unlimited may or may not actually refer to unlimited, but as the carriers have taught us, we don't truly have to be accurate here.

  • Unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia active now available in the US for $340

Sony Ericsson's attempts to make a dent in the US smartphone market have been coming up short, so last month it teamed up with Ingram Micro, a supply chain management company that focuses on distributing phones through online retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and Newegg. The first result of that alliance came to fruition this week as the OEM announced the immediate availability of the Xperia active -- its rugged contribution to the smartphone lineup -- on Newegg and "other online retailers." The dust proof and water resistant Gingerbread device can be under three feet of water for up to thirty minutes, and offers a 1GHz CPU, 5MP rear-facing camera, on-screen heart rate and pulse monitor using ANT+ and 3-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen with wet finger tracking ability. The total bill, before tax? $340 unlocked with no contract attached (which may be on sale, since the press release found past the break lists it for $370). You can choose orange or white as well. Head over to the link if the phone tickles your fancy.

  • ASUS Transformer Prime pre-order page points to December 8th release date

We were expecting ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer Prime to hit the market sometime next month, but a new pre-order page on Newegg may have just revealed a slightly more specific date. Of course, the Tegra 3-packing tablet has already gone up for pre-order on a host of retail sites, but Newegg's listing is the first to peg December 8th for its release. Its $500 price tag also dovetails nicely with what we've previously heard, though ASUS has yet to weigh in with its official word. Interested parties can grab a piece of the Prime at the source link, below. [Thanks, Nivin]

  • Dark Souls collector's edition running into retailer issues

    by
    Richard Mitchell

    10.05.2011

After some were upset that Namco Bandai changed the contents of the Dark Souls collector's edition, now it looks like many fans won't be getting the collector's edition at all. Co-optimus reports that online retailer Newegg didn't receive any copies of the collector's edition at all, while it appears that Best Buy's supply isn't enough to satisfy all pre-orders. To rectify the situation, Newegg will be offering $20 gift cards to all those who pre-ordered the game, while Best Buy will offer $20 cards for anyone who doesn't receive their collector's edition as expected. Kind of a bummer, to be sure, but as Co-optimus points out, twenty bucks is almost enough to buy the full, printed Dark Souls guide, which features more content than the digital mini-guide included with the collector's edition. The art book, however, can't be replaced, which is unfortunate because there really are some spectacular designs in the game.

You'll need to wait until Sunday to get your hands on a Toshiba Thrive at Best Buy, but the Honeycomb slate is ready to head out Newegg's door, with free shipping to boot. $430 nets you an 8GB tablet with two-day shipping, or you can add 30 bucks to get it overnight. That's unlikely to mean tomorrow at this point, but if you play your cards right, you could be sliding through emails a la Swype before the weekend is out. Update: Best Buy has confirmed that the Thrive will be available on July 10th, both in-store and online. Update 2: Looks like it's live on Amazon, too!

It's true, the TouchPad, HP's inaugural webOS tablet, won't go on sale in the states until July 1, but that doesn't mean you can't claim yours pronto. She's up for pre-order at a long list of retailers that includes Amazon, NewEgg, Best Buy, Walmart, Staples, Radio Shack, J&R, Office Max, Office Depot, Costco, Sam's Club, PC Richard & Son, Micro Center, and even Nebraska Furniture Mart. You'll see it listed on HP's site, too, but the company's only accepting orders for businesses at the moment. As expected, the tab comes in two flavors: a 16GB version for $499.99 and a 32GB model that'll set you back $599.99. Both of 'em pack a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, stereo speakers, Touch-to-Share, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and, of course, a gussied-up version of webOS optimized for that 9.7-inch display. Intrigued? Hit the exhaustive list of source links below to scoop one up for yourself. [Thanks, Casey]

If you missed out on those Amazon coupons and don't have a Kmart nearby, you can still enjoy some savings on Marvel vs. Capcom 3's interdimensional hero beatings. Online retailer Newegg sent out an email advertising a 48-hour sale on the game, during which time you can get it for $50. Those ten dollars you saved can then go right back into the game! In order to take advantage of the time-limited sale (it started today at midnight PST, so you have until the same time Thursday), simply use the coupon code EMCKHJE73 for the PS3 version, or EMCKHJE72 for the Xbox 360 version at checkout. The price-conscious folks over at Thrifty Nerd have picked up on a few more solid end-of-the-year gaming deals. If you somehow still haven't bought enough games to last you through 2011 (or at least until Dead Space 2 hits on January 25), here are a few more great titles to get on the cheap: Amazon's got that WoW deal back on again: Buy the original World of Warcraft and get Burning Crusade for free. Amazon also has Halo: Reach for just $39, Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY for $20 and Dance Central for $39. Newegg has NBA Jam for just $30 on PS3 and Xbox 360. Buy.com is selling arcade racer Blur for just over $17. And finally, Walmart has underrated shooter Metro 2033 for under $20. There. Are you happy? Have enough games now? Sheesh!

Guild Wars players both new and old are all about building their Hall of Monuments score these days, thanks to ArenaNet's recent announcement about the Hall of Monuments calculator. If you're anxious to get your connection to Guild Wars 2 underway but haven't purchased Eye of the North yet, it's your lucky day! Newegg has the expansion for $5.99 with free shipping. It's a box copy, so the instant gratification of digital download isn't an option, but that price combined with free shipping might just make it worth it to you. If you want to learn more about the expansion before you pick it up, check out the entry on the official Guild Wars wiki, then head to Newegg and get your copy!

  • ATI Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 reviewed, deemed worthy of the midrange

    by
    Sean Hollister
    Sean Hollister
    10.21.2010

AMD's Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 graphics cards are here, but they might not be what you expect -- though alphanumerics suggest they'd succeed the lauded Radeon HD 5870 and 5850, these new "Bart" chips are actually a pair of solid plays for the PC gaming mainstream. $180 buys you a Radeon HD 6850 with 960 stream processors, a 775MHz core clock and 1GB of GDDR5 memory at a 1GHz effective rate, and $240 nets the HD 6870 with 1120 stream processors and 900MHz / 1,050 MHz clocks respectively. On paper that puts them a good bit behind the finest, but a collection of reviews show they can keep up with the pack, as the 6870 consistently manages to surpass the framerates possible with NVIDIA's $200 GeForce GTX 460, and even the cheaper 6850 can do the same in certain games. Some reports indicate they run a good bit hotter than their predecessors, however, so despite the bevy of ports they're probably not right for your next HTPC. Hit up the reviews below for some promising benchmarks, and if you aren't turned away by AMD's lipsticking of the pig, you'll find ten varieties already for sale at our source link. PR after the break. Update: NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460 768MB now sells for $170, so there's definitely still some mid-range muscle in the green camp. If you feel like you're owed some kind of "tardiness surcharge" when you make your purchase of Gran Turismo 5, you can fool yourself into thinking you've received one by pre-ordering the game on Newegg. The site's currently offering a pre-order of the overdue racer for $47.99.

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 on sale at Newegg, ahead of official release

    by
    Sean Hollister

    09.11.2010

Just like its older sibling the GTX 460, NVIDIA's GeForce GTS 450 is hitting online stores, even though we've yet to hear a word from NVIDIA itself about the new Fermi-based graphics card. While we can't confirm rumors that the GTS 450's got a new GF106 chip under that plastic shroud, it seems evident we're looking at a somewhat less powerful board -- shipping samples from ASUS, EVGA, Gigabyte and Palit show just 192 CUDA cores (down from 336) and a narrower 128-bit memory interface. That doesn't mean the GTS 450 won't necessarily be a capable gamer, though, as the graphics and shader chips are actually clocked closer to 800MHz and 1.6GHz respectively this time, and so far they're all paired with a full 1GB of GDDR5 memory with the same 3.6GHz effective rate -- no 768MB cop-outs. At around $130 a pop, we imagine dedicated graphics enthusiasts will spend the extra to get those bonus cores, but if you've only got three portraits of Ulysses S. Grant to spare, this might just be your board. Don't take our word for it, though -- if history's any indication, we'll have plenty of reviews come Monday morning. [Thanks, Chris S.]

Online retailer Newegg is offering a solid deal on the new, all-black, glossier Xbox 360 wireless controller (the same one that comes with the Xbox 360 "S"). Normally $39.99, it's going for $29.99 -- no rechargeable battery pack included, but, hey, at least it comes with AAs?

  • Motorola Milestone XT720 pops up stateside courtesy of Newegg

    by
    Chris Ziegler

    08.05.2010

It may not look too appealing in the face of some of Motorola's more recent wares -- most notably the Droid X -- but if you're still looking to score that elusive Motorola Milestone XT720 in the US, it looks like retailer Newegg has you covered with an unlocked version (which they interestingly refer to as the "Milestone II") for $540. Sadly, there's no indication of the 3G bands supported, so far all we know, you're going to be brokenhearted when you discover that your AT&T (or T-Mobile) SIM tops out with EDGE data -- and for over half a grand, HSPA is the least we'd expect. Caveat emptor, eh? [Thanks, Freddy]

  • MSI's Core i7-equipped GT660R makes itself available to US consumers

MSI's GT660 has been kicking around in various forms for a few months now, but the latest edition (dubbed GT660R) is just now splashing down on a few e-tailer websites. Boasting a 1.73GHz Core i7-740QM processor, 6GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive (7,200RPM), Blu-ray combo drive and NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 285M, this 16-inch beast is more than capable of handling whatever HD media and first-person shooters you've got sitting around. 'Course, you'll need to be fully prepared to lug around 7.7 pounds of heft, and the 1,366 x 768 resolution is far from ideal, but at least you're given a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. It's up for order now at $1,699.99, but unless you've got a thing for atypically large pixels, we'd suggest springing for an alternative that'll display 1080p natively.

  • Intel's 3.2GHz hexacore i7-970 now shipping

    by
    Vlad Savov

    07.19.2010

Just this once, DigiTimes has turned out to be spot on with its prognostication. The six-core Core i7-970 rumor we heard earlier this month has now transmogrified into a retail product, and just as promised, it brings most of the goodies of the sublime i7-980X at a moderately more affordable $899 price point. Based on the same 32nm Gulftown architecture as its costlier brother, the 970 will run at 3.2GHz by default, though presumably it too will be able to crank up speeds using Intel's Turbo Boost. Aside from that, you get a healthy 12MB of on-chip cache and the standard triple-channel DDR3 memory controller. UK speed freaks can order one up as well now, clearly a tiny bit ahead of Intel itself making things official, so we'd advise checking with your nearest super-CPU purveyors in case they too have received some early units of this multithreaded code cruncher. [Thanks, Polytonic]
