Oculus brings Boggle to VR because... why not?

Hasbro isn't wasting much time bringing its board games to Oculus Rooms. As promised, you can now play Boggle in Facebook's social VR space, letting you play the classic word-finding game with up to four pals using Oculus Go or Gear VR headsets. It's far from a technical showcase for VR (surprise: it plays exactly like Boggle), but it's also hard to complain too loudly. This could be alluring if you want to host a virtual board game night that's as much about catching up with friends as it is playing.

Alongside the Go's launch today, Oculus also announced an updated version of Rooms, its app for hanging out with friends in VR. The new app sports a swankier design, and it also features Hasbro board games, which will really make it feel like you're relaxing in your living room. Boggle will be available this month, and Oculus says Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit will arrive in the future. As for other new features, you'll be able to customize your rooms environment, and you'll also have higher-quality avatars to customize.

It looks like announcing 360-degree photos and videos for the Gear VR app was a teaser of what Oculus had in mind for this week. Now, Facebook's $2 billion baby is pulling back the curtain on the mobile VR live-streaming it teased last October. Assuming you aren't stateside, it's rolling out to the public today. Domestic users will be able to livestream their VR gameplay from Face Your Fears or Wands, a sorcery simulator, directly to Facebook "in the coming weeks," according to TechCrunch.

A few months ago at Oculus' annual developer conference, the company announced a couple of social VR features known simply as Parties and Rooms. Parties is basically built-in voice chat, while Rooms is a virtual hangout space. Today, those features are finally live, at least for the Gear VR; Rift users will have to wait until 2017. Combined, Parties and Rooms are part of Oculus' continued efforts to prove that virtual reality can be used not just to play games, but also to connect people around the world.
