SoundCloud Go is now a completely different offering after the company has revamped its music streaming service. The $10-per-month unlimited subscription still offers ad-free and offline access to over 150 million tracks, but it's now called SoundCloud Go+. A cheaper $5-per-month tier is taking over its old name: the new SoundCloud Go is the same as the free tier at its core. It can only access 120 million tracks, not 150 million like its more expensive counterpart, but it has no ads and gives you the power to listen to music offline.

Those rumors that SoundCloud is shopping itself around? They just got more substantial. Financial Times sources understand that Spotify is in "advanced talks" to buy SoundCloud. Details of the terms are still scarce at the moment, but it won't surprise you to hear that Spotify is declining to comment. We've asked SoundCloud for its take as well.

SoundCloud's Go streaming service is barely half a year old, but the company is already determined to attract hesitant listeners. It's launching a week-long promo that will give you 3 months of unlimited, ad-free music for 99 cents (or 99 pence in the UK) if you subscribe by September 19th. That's similar to offers we've seen from the likes of Google and Spotify, of course. However, it's more important here. While there's a real chance that you have at least a passing acquaintance with Google Play Music or Spotify, SoundCloud Go is relatively new and untested -- this is your chance to give it an extended try without dropping $30/£30. And when SoundCloud hasn't had much success getting customers to bite, a good deal like this could go a long way toward improving the company's bottom line.

The number of options for Sonos owners to stream music to their connected speakers continues to expand. SoundCloud announced today that its subscription service is now available on the popular multi-room audio setup. Launched in March, SoundCloud Go is the long-rumored monthly subscription option from the music library that's been a go-to spot for creators and listeners alike. The service still has some issues to work out, but if SoundCloud wants it to catch on, it needs to offer the option to users in as many places as possible. And that includes working with some of the best speakers on the market.

SoundCloud's paid Go music service is a hot mess between its clunky interface and poor selection, and that may be leading the company to consider some more drastic ways of making money. Bloomberg tipsters claim that SoundCloud's owners are "exploring strategic options," including a possible sale at a valuation of $1 billion. The discussions are reportedly still young and might not lead anywhere, but the very possibility that it's on the table is notable -- the company may not be confident that it can profit from its legions of listeners.

We thought SoundCloud Go could use some polishing when it launched in the US just over a month ago, but the ad-free, offline-enabled option is already expanding to other countries. CTO and co-founder Eric Wahlforss tells Reuters that the subscription option is now available in the UK and Ireland for 9.99 pounds/euros per month, with plans to roll out in "multiple" additional countries this year. There's no word on the number of paying customers yet, as Wahlforss says many users are still in their trial period. Still, he says the company is "well funded" and even though it's not profitable yet, it's looking to go worldwide with the paid option over the next couple of years. If you signed up day one then you've already exhausted your free month so let us know, are you sticking with SoundCloud Go?

SoundCloud's subscription service is a mess

SoundCloud first tipped its hand for a music-streaming service in late 2014, and after wrapping up a series of licensing deals with labels, it's finally here. Called SoundCloud Go, the subscription plan costs $10 a month and includes a library of additional content as well as the usual remixes, emerging artists and podcasts. SoundCloud's variety of music and its community of creators could make Go an attractive option for listeners willing to pay for a monthly subscription. Right now, though, it's difficult to use and lacks many songs that other services offer.

Just over a week ago, Soundcloud announced a licensing deal with Sony Music, agreeing to terms with the third of the three major record labels. It looks like the deal with Sony was the only thing keeping the company from debuting its long-discussed streaming service. As of today, listeners in the US can stream music via SoundCloud Go: a $10 unlimited ad-free monthly subscription. SoundCloud doesn't only want to be a go-to spot for emerging artists, remixes and podcasts, but now it wants the be the app where you do all of your music listening.
