Yahoo's woes continue as the company shut down Screen, its video service/hub. If you'll recall Screen played a part in reviving Community after NBC cancelled the show and hosted the first NFL livestream of a regular season game. The site's library also included Saturday Night Live clips and a smattering of original content. Those videos aren't going anywhere, though, as Variety reports that the company plans to put them alongside other content with the same topic in its "digital magazines." For example, the Live Nation music channel is headed to the Yahoo Music portion of the site.

  • Yahoo Screen supports Chromecast, but only for 'Community'

If you needed one more way to watch Community now that it's on Yahoo instead of NBC, the Yahoo Screen app on Android (but not iOS) has "basic Chromecast support." You could get the show (already on its fourth streaming episode) to connect with Google's dongle by mirroring it from a laptop or mobile device before, but with a direct connection it should be easier to use and have better quality. Should is the key word -- as some reviews in Google Play noted and we experienced ourselves, there are some bugs present. Update (4/3): Yahoo has pushed an update to the app to fix the restart issue, grab the new version here.

We're just days away from the debut of the new season of Community, but the move from NBC to Yahoo changes some things. In the US, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia you'll be able to watch on Yahoo Screen via PC, or apps (US only) on Apple TV, Roku and Xbox 360. So far broadcasters have also been announced for the UK (SET) and Australia (Stan), but there's no word on other countries. Of course, if you're at SXSW, Yahoo will be premiering the first episode a couple of days early on Saturday night. If there's still any confusion -- or if you're just getting ready for Seinfeld -- check after the break for the Community trailer, and a quick how-to from Gillian Jacobs (trust us, she doesn't Britta it) ahead of the premiere March 17th.

Community will get its 13-episode sixth season (and eventually, maybe a movie?) on Yahoo Screen October 19th March 17th, and now we have the first trailer. It looks like the gang are up to their usual Dan Harmon-written schemes, but it's still missing something without Troy, Shirley and Pierce. Fortunately the rest of the cast is in their usual places, and the trailer even makes light of some of the missing members. Overall, Greendale doesn't seem any worse for wear after jumping to the internet, er, Age of Yahoo, so we guess that $2 million per episode budget is holding up. Our only question now: will we see Yahoo Screen apps for a few more connected TV devices by the time the show debuts?

Back in July, Yahoo announced it would revive NBC's popular Community for a sixth season after its original network cancelled the show. Today, the company announced that the new collection of episodes would begin March 17th on Yahoo Screen. Two episodes will premiere that Tuesday, with new ones following on a weekly basis for a total of 13. Of course, some of the original cast has already departed, so Troy (Donald Glover), Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and Pierce (Chevy Chase) won't be regulars this season. When you finish up with that corned beef and cabbage, you'll be able get cozy on the couch for the return. [Photo credit: NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images]

  • NFL Now comes to Yahoo Screen as it continues to expand

If you didn't think the National Football League was really serious about its new digital network, think again. A mere week after arriving on the Apple TV, NFL Now is adding Yahoo Screen to the growing list of platforms it is currently available in. While the experience on Yahoo's internet video service won't be as fully fleshed as on Apple's streaming box or the NFL's own apps, it still gives football fans another way to keep up with their favorite teams and players -- after all, NFL Now is all about personalization. Yahoo says NFL Now content is limited to Yahoo Sports on the web and the Screen iOS app, but that integration with its Android equivalent is "coming soon."

Don't worry, that green hue around Yahoo Screen's gills isn't seasickness, Marissa Mayer's video service is just taking on the color of its newest platform, the Xbox 360. That's right, as soon as the sixth season of Community debuts (or other original content, whichever comes first), you'll be able to watch it via Microsoft's last-gen gaming console. Until that happens, well, there's always some 38 years of Saturday Night Live clips to peruse -- assuming you haven't burned through them all on your AppleTV or Roku already.

Six seasons and a movie. That's what fans of Community want, and they're very close to getting it. NBC cancelled Dan Harmon's comedy after its fifth season on the network -- one that may have already owed its existence to streaming services -- but now Yahoo has announced it's commissioning a new 13-episode season. There had been rumors/wishes that Community would return on an online network like Hulu, Crackle or Netflix, but The Wrap reports the cast's contracts were due to expire on Monday, so Sony Pictures needed to make a deal and Yahoo is looking for content (Firefly fans, update your mailing lists). With the exception of the previously departed Troy (Donald Glover) and Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase), the main cast is onboard all the way down to Jim Rash as Dean Pelton. The season will be exclusive to Yahoo Screen, but details like how much it will cost to watch (if anything) or how the episodes will be released are still unclear. The one problem we hope Yahoo can solve right away? Where to put October 19th. Update: In a TV Guide article explaining how Community got to Yahoo Screen (tl;dr: cash money -- the $2 million per episode budget will remain the same from its run on NBC, which Hulu couldn't match), exec Kathy Savitt says the plan is for it to be ad supported, and episodes will be released on a weekly basis. Talk about impeccable timing: the same day Hulu announces it'll let users watch TV shows for free on their phones, Yahoo brings its video app to Android. That application, called Screen, is already available for iOS, and unlike Hulu, it's focused more on short-form clips than full episodes. In particular, you're most likely to find comedy bits, along with concerts, original programming and sports content (think: Saturday Night Live sketches, Comedy Central clips, and video from The Onion, MLB, and College Humor). Also unlike Hulu: you can watch for free today. The Android app is available to download now, whereas Hulu isn't going to catch up until sometime this summer. Bombs away, Android users, but don't come crying to us when you remember SNL isn't actually funny anymore.

The Yahoo Screen application is still a relatively young one, but it's never too early to start adding more features to it. With this in mind, Yahoo revealed today that it's bringing AirPlay compatibility to the app, making it easy for viewers to stream content on their television set -- all while being able to use the iOS device to browse other videos and select what to play next. The refreshed Screen app now also supports real-time broadcasts (which is planned to be used for a variety of live events), and can push notification alerts during breaking news that Yahoo thinks "you should know about." Now, about that Android app...

Yahoo has announced a new app called Yahoo Screen, which acts as a hub for all of the company's media content. The app is the latest in the line of mobile app initiatives at the company as it seeks to redefine its image and up its offerings. With Yahoo Screen, users can watch any of Yahoo!'s media from one central location. The app also features a pretty cool gesture-based control that allows you to change channels by swiping up or down and to go from one show's episode to the next by swiping left or right. Yahoo Screen isn't just for Yahoo's content either. The company has partnered with Viacom to bring clips from some of its shows to the app, starting with The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Some full shows are also available, including Ghost Girls and Losing It With John Stamos. As for Yahoo's video content, users can expect to find video from Major League Baseball, UFC, The Onion, Martha Stewart and more. Yahoo Screen is a free download.

Armed with a fresh new logo, Yahoo's getting down to business. Today, the company unveiled its first major mobile product: a video-discovery app for iOS called Screen. The service lets users browse trending videos and swipe through channels to watch clips from The Daily Show and Saturday Night Live, in addition to Yahoo Originals programming. The company says it currently has "over 1,000 hours of comedy" on offer -- and thanks to a deal with Viacom, that includes plenty of clips from Comedy Central shows. Those using Apple's mobile OS can download the free app via the second source link below.
