  • Third wave of WoW action figures impresses

Whether or not you're the type of WoW player that buys collectibles, you've got to admit that the newest series of action figures from DC Unlimited are pretty cool. We're especially impressed by the Undead Rogue, which has some ridiculously detailed color work and makes us want it with an undying fervor. Unfortunately these figures aren't even out until November 12th, 2008, which means that if you've really got to have one (or all) of them right now -- well, you can't.Fear not, however, as if you really must have an awesome WoW action figure right now there's always the current crop. Although if you've got to have that Undead Rogue -- like us -- then there isn't much we can do for you aside from offering you an empathetic nod of understanding.

Toy News International reports that the World of Warcraft action figures from DC Direct are coming in the last quarter of this year. I love my toys and I love WoW so this comes as great news, particularly with the new selection of figures -- a Blood Elf Paladin named Quin'thalan Sunfire (hell yeah!); Tamuura, a Draenei Mage; an Undead Rogue called Skeeve Sorrowblade; and a Human Priest, Sister Benedron, who can probably cure your allergies. As with previous World of Warcraft action figures from DC direct, the sculpts are mostly based on existing armor sets that players might recognize.Tamuura sports the Tier 6 raid set Tempest Regalia, while Sister Benedron is depicted in Tier 5 Avatar gear with exaggerated shoulder wings; Skeeve Sorrowblade appears to be wearing a highly-detailed version of Deathmantle, the Rogue Tier 5 set; and Quin'thalan Sunfire looks... well, he looks like he's a generic Silvermoon City guard whom you ask for directions. It's a bit disappointing, personally, although I guess it's cool to have a Silvermoon City guard. It would be kind of like having a named Stormtrooper or something. Historically, DC Direct's action figures have appeared in the World of Warcraft comic, so expect one or more of these new figures to make an appearance in the Chris Metzen-approved canon comic series.More pictures after the jump. So clickety-click, toy lovers (and uh, WoW fans)...

First4Figures have done it again. First it was Zelda, then Metroid. Now, they've breathed life into the classic Sonic the Hedgehog series with a line of vinyl figures, depicting Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as they were before their "extreme" redesign for Sonic Adventure. In fact, First4Figures has done a lot of great work since we last reported on them. Check out the group's site for a classy Sheik figurine, Altair from Assassin's Creed, and a gorgeous, LED-lit version of Samus's gunship from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The Knuckles, Tails and Sonic figures will comprise the first wave of Sonic figures manufactured, and are due out around July 2008. No word yet on pricing, though expect a premium on these high-quality pieces of fan-cred.

  • Halo 3 MacFarlane figures packaged, pretty, coming soon

Gird your loins, because the McFarlane Toys line of Halo 3 action figures is on its way. Still due to drop in March, the snazzy-looking collectibles have already gone through packaging design, and X3F has collected some photos of what to look out for on retail shelves. With war-torn backdrops, and minimalistic packaging (except for the bizarre "Cortana LIGHTS UP!" sticker), these designs were clearly made to show off the figures, and for good reason. We might just pick up a few Spartan soldiers for ourselves, to re-enact our favorite Halo 3 multiplayer moments.

WorldofWarcraft.com yesterday announced that the Series 1 World of Warcraft Action Figures are now in stores and ready to fill up your Christmas shopping list. Series 1, created by DC Unlimited, currently has five figures in it, and they are exquisite in their detail. These are high quality babies with multiple points of articulation, and I know I am definitely going to want to get me a set. Comic book stores across the country currently have them in stock and ready to take home, or if you prefer, stop by your local Toy-R-Us. I did a little web digging and found that they are also available on ToysRUs.com for about $12.00, although they are listed as a Pre-Order item still, so you might have to wait a couple of weeks on an Internet purchase.

It's Brewfest time-- the Dwarves of Azeroth are completely soused (oh no wait, that's every week), and we're also partaking in the drinking activities here at WoW Insider-- don't worry, we're all above 21. Well, level 21 anyway. The crew at DC Unlimited also want to join the fun, and they've sent us this terrific Thargas Anvilmar, one of their Warcraft action figures, to give to one of you lucky readers. He's a striking Dwarf Warrior wielding a mean two hander and wearing a full set of Tier 5. It's the perfect piece to add to your Warcraft toy-- whoops, excuse me-- collectible collection. And it's not even set to be released until October 24th, so you get a chance to win it early! To enter, just throw a comment on this post by Friday, October 12th, telling us what your favorite drink is for Brewfest. It doesn't have to be an alcohol of some kind-- tea is brewed, but then again, only sissy-pants High Elves drink tea. Whatever your drink is, put it in a comment on this post (one comment per reader, US only-- sorry, we've got to ship it to you, age 18 and up), and we'll choose one randomly on Friday to win this great toy-- sorry again, Action Figure. The comment must be left by Friday at 3pm EST. You can enter only once and only one winner will be selected randomly to win the figure (valued at $30). Official rules are here. Good luck!Update: Time's up! Check your email if you entered-- we're choosing one comment randomly to win the figure.

As you know, McFarlane is busy working on creating a set of Halo 3 action figures for release next Spring and so far all we've seen has been a Master Chief prototype. But yesterday McFarlane decided to reveal their work-in-progress models and boy are they beauts! Viewable after the jump are unpainted sculpts of the Brute Chieftain, Jackal Sniper and the Puma Warthog. Just look at the detail on these little guys! Analyze these work-in-progress models and agree with us that they are not only pretty, but will totally be worth the cash.[Thanks, TMD]

  • More DC figures coming this February!

As if somehow sensing that there might be some meager amount of money in my pocket left over from the holidays, DC has released the proofs for the next series of World of Warcraft figures for us all to covet and add to our Wish Lists! Pictured from left to right are: Human Warrior - Archilon Shadowheart Night Elf Druid - Broll Bearmantle Troll Priest - Zabra Hexx Additionally, the site lists a Gnome Warrior named Sprocket Gyrospring as being part of this next set of figures. Sadly, I couldn't find an image of him out there as yet. I suppose he's either lost somewhere behind all that Druid gear, or the Troll made some Gnome stew. In any event, these fantastic new figures are set to go on sale on February 20th, 2008. Luckily, this gives me more than enough time to clear off some shelf room in my office for them -- and Illidan! • Transformers figure turns 'Game Boy' into 'Game Bot'

Hasbro has unveiled a series of "Real Gear Robots" as a tie-in to the Transformers universe. What caught our eye particularly is the POWER UP VT6 who, when not moonlighting as a Decepticon, spends its days as the hybrid of a Sega Game Gear and the bottom half of a Nintendo DS.At $6.99, we're pretty sure it's neither a functioning handheld game system nor a functioning micro killing machine. Drat.(Rest assured, our headline writer has been sacked. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked, have also been sacked.)[Via Engadget]

Somewhere out there, one of my guild-mates is about to squeal with glee. For that matter, so am I... if only internally. For you see, buying Collectors Edition Boxed-Set versions of the game, trading card game packs, t-shirts and stickers just isn't enough for my collectable-loving little heart. DC and Blizzard have ensured that I will once again break down into a puddle of "that is SO COOL" in front of my fellow gamer geeks. (Well, okay, maybe only in front of the fellow geeks who happen to frequent my favorite local comic book store, but I digress...)Sure, we knew back in February that the Illidan Stormrage figure was coming out. We even had an idea of the rough look of the statue. And considering the already drool-worthy things we've seen from the DC World of Warcraft line, we knew it was going to have to be cool. But now we have the final picture of what the new figurine is going to look like. Much like the others in the DC figure line, it is truly a (SO COOL) thing of beauty.Mind you, I can't speak for anyone else - or ultimately that guild-mate of mine who is probably noting the December 19th release date even now - but I know what just landed on my holiday wish list! Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to go invest in some earplugs before the squealing starts up over Vent.[Via bowzerblack on the WoW LJ community]

  • WoW action figures: now with karate-chop action!

    by

Well, actually, no, none of these action figures, made by DC Unlimited, specifically suggests karate-chop action (though they do point out that the figures feature "multiple points of articulation") -- but perhaps that will be an improvement for the second run. Due to be released in October, there are four different figures available, including a dwarf warrior, an orc shaman, a blood elf rogue, and an undead warlock. (Interestingly enough, these do not remotely match the figures that were initially announced in January, and included Illidan. However, these are listed as "Series 1," which implies there might be a "Series 2" in the future.) They all appear to be amazingly detailed -- and perhaps they'll be the perfect item to decorate your own WoWspace with.

Now that The Warriors' release is nearly upon us, you may want to grab some The Warriors loot. Maybe you'd want some action figures? ToyWiz has a pretty good selection, provided you want to pay up to $750. I don't know they can justify the price ... maybe there's some snuff hidden away in the packages?[Via GameSpot]

  • Today's action figuriest video: GH2 Toys - Thunderhorse

Imagine, if you will, Toy Story meets Robot Chicken meets YouTube ... and you'd have nothing like this video. Still, it's funny and features some pretty well-done impressions and Guitar Hero gaming. Thunderhorse on expert is one bitch of a song, and if the combined likes of Darth Vader, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others can't help you through it, then nothing will.Although a four-armed character like Goro sure would help. While we're at it, we'd also like to be imbued with the power of Steve Vai and have the ability to slow down time. You know, just as an edge.

  • Cute little Xbox 360 toys are ... cute

After today being an extremely slow news day, we decided to browse Flickr tonight for some exciting Xbox stuff. After navigating through random photos of people's nail clippers, cheese fries and yellow hats, we came across the two little gems above. These two 360 mini-figs are toy collector kingkong21's pride and joy (or so we think), one sporting a 360 sphere for a head and the other looks to be some sort of dying mouse. Anyone know where we can get our hands on these little dudes or where they come from? These guys could totally be official security guards of Fanboy Towers as they are already proving themselves by holding off the dreaded PS2 controller from us 360 fanboys.

When we saw First4Figures first Metroid statue, we wondered "where's Samus?" As it turns out, she was coming all along. Though it's not shipping yet, they've released the statue's likely to be final appearance, in both Varia and Gravity suit varieties. Also coming are Samus' Light, Dark, and Phazon suits. The $99 11" tall statue will be available later Q4 2006, which is more than we can say for the recently dated Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
