A new trailer for the PC version of Alone in the Dark just hit the internet, giving us a glimpse into what to expect from the title. We're anticipating pretty much the same experience as the other versions of the game on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, just with some toned-down graphics. And, we're also incredibly excited about the high levels of interactivity the game's environments exhibit, as you all undoubtedly are.%Gallery-10200%

  • Alone in the Dark bumped up to May now [update]

While conducting an interview with French newspaper Les Echos, new Atari head honcho Patrick Leleu talked about his new role and how he planned on turning things around. But, what's most important to us Wii owners is what he had to say about the latest entry in the Alone in the Dark series. The delay apparently isn't as bad as we thought. Replace September with May as the month of note on your calendar, according to Leleu's interview. Update: It should be noted that Alone in the Dark did find its way onto the long release list Nintendo dished out. However, we made no mention of this and many would find that the original post deserved to at least recognize this fact. So, we apologize for neglecting to mention it.%Gallery-10200%[Via Go Nintendo]

Despite Nintendo's recent press release stating otherwise, Atari has confirmed that its survival horror series Alone in the Dark will not be coming to the DS.Eden Studios reported last April that the game would be coming to all platforms, but we started getting suspicious when no mentions of the DS version were showing up in Alone in the Dark press releases. There was always the hope that information would suddenly arise, as was the case with Assassin's Creed, but it wasn't meant to be.Are any of you disappointed, or do you prefer to keep your survival horror games to your home console?

  • PS3 Alone in the Dark falls into darkness

Uh oh. Remember how PS3 releases last year had a terrible habit of being several weeks (if not months) after their PC and Xbox 360 counterparts? Well while that shouldn't be much of a problem this year, thanks to the UE3 being fully PS3 compatible, Alone in the Dark fans might have to suffer through one more "PS3 lag". The game has been delayed until May for all systems except for the PS3, which has been given a "sometime in 2008" release. Very helpful. But what happened to the PS3 version being released day-and-date with the other versions, as promised? Let's hope this is the last instance of this issue we ever see.[Via Joystiq]

  • Surprise! Alone in the Dark delayed until May

It's been a rough week for Alone in the Dark. First, it was reported that the game would miss its projected March release date (which was itself a delay from last November), then Atari made it clear that the title had not been delayed 'til September. However, the company did not confirm a March release. And so here we are with the latest headline: Alone in the Dark has been delayed until May. An even more interesting wrinkle, the PS3 version of the game will not see the light of day in May, and has been pushed to an indeterminate date sometime later in 2008. So there you have it, folks, the final word on Alone in the Dark. Unless they delay it again, of course.[Via Joystiq]

Will wonders never cease? In one week, Alone in the Dark went from being released in March to being released in September to "not delayed until September, but we're not saying when it's actually coming out." Now, according to CVG, the survival horror title will drop on the Xbox 360, Wii, PC and PS2 in May of 2008. As you may have noticed, the PS3 is absent from that list, and with good reason: That version is now due "sometime in 2008." That's especially interesting to those who have been following the AITD release drama, as Atari previously said that the PS3 version would arrive day-and-date with its brethren on other consoles. We have to admit that we're still looking forward to getting our hands on the game, if only to see if all the delays were time well spent. If we could be so bold though, could we suggest that the game ship with a special bonus copy of Chinese Democracy?

  • No more big-budget bombs for Boll

Bad news for Uwe Boll love-to-haters: the infamous German director and pouting pugilist will see his future endeavors financially constrained after his latest $70 million video game adaptation, "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," set the box-office alight with all the effectiveness of two moist fish furiously rubbed together. The $3 million weekend opening marked the director's third consecutive failure to Boll audiences over, and with no more German tax shelter funds to rely on, it looks to be his last big-budget bomb. Not willing to throw in the raggedy towel just yet, Uwe Boll (pronounce it correctly, please!) told The Hollywood Reporter that he plans to focus on smaller cinematic explosives. Like grenades. "These are films that represent my true passion, and they can be done with small budgets," said Boll. Bad movie lovers (or lovers of bad movies) need not fear -- if this director's proven adept at anything in the last few years, it's working around a complete deficit of worthwhile resources.[Thanks, David]

  • Alone in the Dark not delayed, but Atari won't confirm March release

Eurogamer says they've been informed by Atari that a reported delay of Alone in the Dark until September is simply a rumor, but the company wouldn't take the next step and say the game will release as expected in March. Yeah, that's just a bit awkward. If you're having déjà vu about Alone in the Dark delay issues, it's probably because Atari went through this recently with an AitD delay rumor on the PS3. If there's any questions about AitD coming out in March, it's worth noting that IGN wasn't given hands-on time when it did a preview on the game last August. It's only a matter of time before we use "delayed" and Alone in the Dark in the same post again.[Via X3F]

Hey, remember when Games for Windows magazine reported that Alone in the Dark was delayed until September? It looks like they may have spoken to soon, as Eurogamer reveals that Atari has taken exception to the article, saying that the Games for Windows report was a rumor. Granted, this isn't an out right denial of the delay, but it looks like Alone in the Dark is at least still scheduled for a March release. We hope so, because we needs our survival horror fix.

Atari's Alone in the Dark was set up for a March release, but that has fallen through. Now, the title is set to grace shelves in September of this year, however with the constant financial woes of the company, we're not sure if we'll ever get the game now. Shame, too, as we were looking forward to it.What do you all think? Will Atari finish development on this game before they fulfill their promise to quit developing games and focus on publishing them?%Gallery-10200%[Via Joystiq]

Delays, delays, delays. They're all over the place aren't they? Of course, towards the end of 2007, delays were expected. After all, there were tons of good games (or at least games that were supposed to be good) coming out at the time, so it only made sense to push certain titles into the new year and out of the crowded holiday season. And now, it's time to delay one of those titles again. The title in question, lest you haven't figured it out by now, is Alone in the Dark. AloneintheDark5.com reports that the latest issue of Games for Windows magazine has the scoop. Originally scheduled for November of 2007 and then pushed to March 2008, the game has now been pushed to September. If the magazine is to be believed, it looks like that's probably a good thing, as Games for Windows spotted some some graphical and technical problems in a recent build.Okay, we're currently waiting for three different survival horror games that just happen to be the fifth installment of each franchise. Here's hoping we get at least one of them this year.[Via Joystiq]

A look back at our coverage of Alone In The Dark reveals that most of the coverage on the game hasn't been focused on its intriguing episodic nature or any of its other features. The bulk of the posts are news of delays, both big and small pushing the game through the years like the world's slowest time machine. But today, friends, today ... we have another one of those posts. Games For Windows magazine reports in their latest issue that the game has been delayed from March to September of 2008.We know that Atari has appeared to lean on AitD's promise a couple of times to try to make its future seem rosier. But, if we were at the helm, we would take the game deep underground until it was actually, really, seriously, no kidding going to come out. The last thing anybody wants is for Edward Carnby to get Nukemed.Update: Atari says its not September.

  • CES 2008: New titles join Games for Windows portfolio

In another CES 2008 announcement, Microsoft has highlighted nine new additions to its Games for Windows endeavor, promising to "continue the momentum for Windows-based gaming in 2008" and "revive" the PC gaming space. The titles due to be dressed in Microsoft's colors include: Alone in the Dark (Atari) Bionic Commando (Capcom) Conflict: Denied Ops (Eidos Interactive) Empire: Total War (SEGA) LEGO Indiana Jones (LucasArts) Microsoft Train Simulator 2 (Microsoft Game Studios) Sins of a Solar Empire (Stardock) Space Siege (SEGA) Tomb Raider: Underworld (Eidos Interactive) The list not only cements the "Underworld" subtitle to Eidos' next Tomb Raider, but provides reassurance as to the longevity of Microsoft's initiative. Games for Windows is sure to be around for quite some time if Alone in the Dark manages to arrive under its banner. Microsoft's polite press release is also keen to remind us that other expected 2008 titles -- Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, Borderlands, The Club, Fallout 3 and Frontlines: Fuel of War -- will stand beneath the flapping emblem.

  • Central Dark site teases Alone in the Dark (probably)

Man, if we had a nickel for every game-related countdown site on the internet, we'd easily have, like, at least ten nickels. Make that eleven, as a new countdown site by the name of CentralDark.com has popped up. The website was revealed via an email distributed by Atari, and features a video about Central Park. The video discusses how strange it is that Central Park hasn't changed in over a hundred years, citing several fictional newspaper articles by authors with names like "Samuel Raimi" and "Johnathan Carpenter" and concluding that the park has a dark secret. In other words, it looks like a teaser site for Alone in the Dark, which takes place in Central Park and is being published by Atari. The game's release is expected early next year, so it wouldn't surprise us if this is the beginning of its marketing blitz. The countdown ends in twenty-five days. Anyone want to take bets?[Via 360Sync]

  • Alone in the Dark confirmed for Wii, PS2

What with its lingering financial worries and loss of licenses, Atari is a lot like a three-legged dog seen limping pitifully to the side of the road. We want to help, we do, but we've already got a perfectly good dog at home with all four legs intact. With so much hardship, it's evident that much of Atari's livelihood seems pinned on the success of the upcoming franchise reboot of Alone in the Dark, so it's unsurprising that the company has opted to release the survival horror title for the Wii (shown) and PlayStation 2 in addition to the previously announced versions in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.The long-delayed game, which marks the fifth title in the Alone in the Dark franchise, was first announced in 2005, and features a script penned by Sleepers author Lorenzo Carcaterra. Interestingly, however, while the earlier announced versions of the game are being developed by Test Drive Unlimited devs Eden, the Wii and PS2 duties have been handed off to French developer Hydravision, which has some survival horror chops themselves having developed the Obscure series of games. It's still anyone's guess when Alone in the Dark in any form will make it to retail, though considering that there hasn't been a decent title in the series since Edward Carnby's 1992 debut, we think we can wait.[Via press release]

Okay, okay enough videos already, we get it. But come on, it is Halloween and you have to admit it is quite enjoyable watching brand new trailers of your favorite horror games ... right? Right? We knew we'd win you over.Atari just released a newly new Alone in the Dark 5 trailer entitled "Central Park". From what we can tell there isn't any in-game or gameplay footage, but there's a heck of a lot of artistic license going on. The music, the camera shots and lighting (oh the lighting!) make for one enjoyable cinema experience. Enjoy the latest Alone in the Dark trailer, because we're not sure how many more videos we'll be posting today seeing that we're kind of hitting our limit. And you probably are too.

You know that feeling you get when your gut just tells you something is going to be good? It's usually wrong in the end, but until you know for sure it's just a great means to power the hype train? We've got that feeling about Alone in the Dark. Because they scrapped using a subtitle or a numerical indicator, it tells us they've re-imagined the franchise and will take the game down a new, hopefully scary, path. An interview with producer Noir Polloni explains more, after the jump.
