LotRO Book 13 gets beautiful new screens
We've long since known the new area being introduced in the newest Lord of the Rings Online's Book 13 patch was Forochel. The fact that Forochel has an enormous water mass (that players can't swim across) makes it perfect for the new fishing mechanic being introduced to the game. If players aren't in the mood for fishing, it's not as though they can't level up on their own instead. Forochel is very solo-friendly.There's also been the recent revelation that Book 13 will have a pretty cool name, "Doom of the Last-King" and will be the first zone in LotRO to have it's own faction reputation to earn. So expect to be at an 'unfriendly' status with the Lossoth in the region, at least upon first entering. Improving your faction level with said survivors of the Forodwaith will be rewarded with treasures such as new armor sets, a new mount, weapons, housing decorations, and some class-specific items as well. All very cool stuff, but there's still some more to be seen.Today Turbine has released some rather enticing new screens for the upcoming Book 13 patch and we've got them right here for your visual enjoyment.
LotRO EU dev chat reveals Book 13 details
At the end of every month the Lord of the Rings Online Europe team sits down for a dev chat. February's happened last night at Stratics and this time we got some juice on the upcoming Book 13 content patch. Here are the highlights: Book 13 will contain a new area to explore that is bigger than Evendim but have a different climate than the recent heavy emphasis on snowy mountains No new 12 or 24 man raids will be introduced. (Note: The recently launched Book 12 introduced new raid content for those hungry for more large group encounters.) 6 man instances work will be limited to the Book 13 continuation of the epic storyline as well as retuning the existing Annuminas 1 group instances. New armor sets are coming to primaily address playstyles not served by existing armor sets Housing is changing in regards to non-payment. Instead of losing your house and all your items going into escrow, non-payment of the maintenance fee will simply lock you out of your house until you can pay. Your house remains and all your items remain within while you are locked out. Only houses that are abandoned will have their items placed in escrow. The ability to turn off the graphic of certain item slots will be independent for each Outfit New non-combat clothing will be coming as well as headgear that doesn't cover your characters hair (i.e. Circlets.) The devs also talked about technology being implemented into the game that will allow them to work in new functionality. Arena Season 4: Brutal Gladiator
Bits and pieces of Arena Season 4 have popped up on the PTR, and as previously speculated on MMO Champion, it looks like the gear will be named Brutal Gladiator. As expected, the armor pieces are recolored versions of the gear that drops in Sunwell Plateau. As the armor pieces are not class specific, what will happen is that for the first time in World of Warcraft Arena history, classes will have similar-looking armor. Warriors will share the same models are Paladins, Shamans can masquerade as Hunters, Rogues will look like Druids, and all clothies will look like they all went to the same tailors or yard sale. This creates wonderful opportunities in PvP, particularly, hearkening back to the days when Night Elf rogues looked almost exactly like Night Elf druids. Even more confusion ensues when you consider that both Alliance and Horde now share the same armor models as opposed to unique faction models under the old Honor system. The good news is that the new armor sets -- or rather, non-sets -- look pretty sweet. The bad news is that more characters will walk around looking more alike than ever. On the other hand, a lot of PvP gear is coming out in Patch 2.4, such as reputation-based gear (ahem, recolors of the dungeon sets); Season 2 items going on sale Filene's Basement style; and PvE efforts rewarding PvP gear. Age of Conan preview makes mention of women, animations
Curse has a new write-up about their recent trip to FunCom where they go over some key issues fans of the upcoming Age of Conan might want to know about. One such thing is in regards to the severe lack of a female presence in the world of Hyboria up to this point. We're told that the main reason we haven't seen any female player characters is that FunCom wanted to do it up right. After all, you only get to make first impressions once. Well, apparently now that females are ready for the spotlight, beta testers can expect to see them as soon as the next patch even. This bodes well for the rest of us seeing the lovely ladies of Hyboria sooner rather than later.If FunCom takes their armor sets as seriously as they take their Hyborian women, then it sounds like we're in for some satisfying sets of equipment. We're told to expect over 500 unique armor pieces, which in terms of sets doesn't tell us too much. Although a very rough guess on our part would be somewhere in the ballpark of 70-90 armor sets, which would span over three races and twelve classes. If they keep their word then hopefully we won't have a bunch of clones running around.What really interested us the most, however, was that after hearing lots of concerned feedback on the run animations the developers are going back to the motion capture, uh -- board. Sure, you can expect all sorts of custom fatality animations for different classes, but FunCom continues to impress us with their ability to listen to the community. There's nothing worse than an unnatural looking run animation when you have to stare at it constantly for hours on end.
Arena Season 3 armor sets are on the PTR
World of Raids is at it again. Arena Season 3 started last night on the PTR and a new Arena vendor popped up in Area 52. WoR already has screenshots of the new PvP armor sets for every class and every talent spec with images from the Dressing Room as well.Every piece has +Resilience and has set bonuses for the same stat. Sprinkled through the armor (and the weapons/ranged slot items) are small enhancements to existing abilities for each class as well.Head over to WoR and check it out, then let us know if you think Blizzard has made a class PvP set that works for you or is it totally off base. Tier 6 on Blizzard's game guide
Just in case you haven't seen them yet (and you probably have, because you are a knowledgeable WoW Insider reader), Blizzard has added the Tier 6 armor sets to their game guide.It's an easy little interface, and you can very easily see any of the armor sets (and all of their variants, which makes me think that it might be cool if the different spec variants actually looked, y'know, different) on any race, and even any gender of your choice. Gaze at the beauty of the Skyshatter set! Be in awe of the Warlock's Malefic armor! And puzzle why Paladins got yet another strange-looking armor set. Blizzard should just put ballerina gowns on them next time and be done with it.
Armor sets page updated
I don't know about you, but I've been waiting for Blizzard to update their armor set page since the expansion was released. After all, it's nice to have an easy point of reference for set stats and appearances, but Blizzard's page has been stuck in a drab pre-BC format, without including new races or new sets. However, for those who simply must know, you can now find updated armor set information (including where to find each set) on Blizzard's European site -- though the US site is still a bit out of date.Update: Blizzard's US site picked up these updates on Monday, the 19th.[Via Warcry Network]
