It won't surprise you to hear that Netflix is particularly eager for awards this year, and it looks like that thirst might pay off at the Oscars. Alfonso Cuarón's Roma is clearly a front runner after receiving no less than ten nominations, including Best Picture, Leading Actress (Yaliza Aparicio), Directing, Foreign Language Film, Supporting Actress (Marina de Tavira), Cinematography, Original Screenplay, Production Design, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. It'll be surprising if the movie doesn't pick up at least one of the iconic statuettes.

As the dust settles on the Golden Globes, streaming services are already gearing up for their best showing ever at the BAFTAs -- aka the UK's Oscars. Netflix is up for eight awards (up from three last year), mainly thanks to Alfonso Cuarón's deeply personal Mexican drama, Roma, which already snagged the Best Foreign Language Film gong at the Globes and is nominated in the BAFTA Best Film category.

Today, the Coen brothers confirmed to Variety that their new film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs will receive a theatrical release. Netflix has done this before, but very selectively. "Theatrical release was important to us, and they were happy to accommodate us," said Ethan Coen at the Venice Film Festival.

Last year, the Coen Brothers announced that they would bring an anthology series about the American West to Netflix. Called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, it was supposed to focus on six different stories about life on the frontier. However, now Variety reports that the project is actually a movie and that it's premiering at the Venice Film Festival for awards show season.
