In a surprise announcement this morning via IncGamers, Blizzard has revealed that tickets to the just-announced BlizzCon 2010 sold out earlier than ever before -- before the tickets even went on sale, in fact. Apparently, due to a high rate of calls on Blizzard's tech support line suffering from "3 - 4 hour wait times," the company released early tickets to some customers. "We didn't intend to sell all of them already, but I guess the vast, password-losing World of Warcraft community spread the word, and one thing led to another," CEO Mike Morhaime said. He added that he's "looking forward to another great show, with some of our most passionate, patient, credit card-possessing fans," speaking from a recently purchased yacht, allegedly. You can check out the full press release right here, which you might have realized by this point is not legit.

Anaheim will once again become a second home to the citizens of Azeroth when BlizzCon 2010 takes place from October 22 to 23. As in previous years, this is the show where Blizzard brings out its big guns and usually delivers at least one major announcement. Although it's not expressly stated, it's very likely StarCraft II, Diablo III and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will be at the event -- hopefully, with some release dates in tow. Detailed sales information isn't live yet, but anyone interested in attending better start queuing up the nanosecond those golden tickets go out. %Gallery-70721%

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/pc_games/BlizzCon_2010_Officially_Announced_October_22nd_October_2'; BlizzCon 2010 has been officially announced! The convention will run October 22nd and October 23rd at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. This was as we previously reported back at the beginning of February. Despite the very sparse information available from Blizzard, we do know at least one thing -- Jay Mohr will be hosting again. Ticketing information is not available yet, and we don't expect it to be for some time. What this says about the release date of Cataclysm is also anyone's guess. We don't have any solid information on that at this time. • What the fans want from BlizzCon 2010

In this installment of WoW.com's guest writer program, we welcome a handful of authors to share their thoughts on what is a rumored BlizzCon 2010 this October. BlizzCon has become one of the premier gaming events each year, attracting folks of every different walk of life from every corner of the globe. In 2009 Chris Metzen stood on stage and to thunderous fire announced World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. The expectations set for future BlizzCon are nothing less than spectacular; reading some of the well thought out opinions, you can see what your fellow WoWers want to see at BlizzCon 2010... Darcy Zalewski (Better known to some as Syrana) I went to BlizzCon in 2009 for the first time and saw a lot of great stuff. Since I've experienced it once, now I have some things I'd like to request -- nay, demand -- to see this year. I want to see someone in a Pandaren Monk costume and I want them to go all out with it. I also want to see some updates regarding the Warcraft movie. Then there's the next-gen MMO Blizzard is working on. I hope they'll show some concept art and maybe a demo of this. Lastly, I want Mountain Dew in the vending machines. The only Dew available was at the end of a long concession line (the machines gave Pepsi no matter what button you pushed!). The developer panels taunted me with their untouched bottles of sweet nectar.

Last week we did a test run of our Guest Writer program asking our Twitter followers to write an article giving five tips to DPSers running random heroics. Our test run was a success (the winning article will be published later this week), and we're now ready to begin allowing everyone to have the chance to become a Guest Writer on WoW.com! WoW.com runs the program through Aol's Seed. You can find out more about the program in our announcement post about the Guest Writer program, and at our newly re-vamped Contributing to WoW.com page. This week we're looking for contributions from writers telling us what they want to see at BlizzCon 2010. We're looking for between 75 and 150 words, and we'll select 3 to 7 entries for publication on WoW.com. If your entry is selected, you'll be paid $10 through Seed. Last week we found out that BlizzCon could be returning to the Anaheim Convention Center and that Jay Mohr is hosting again. In order to get started read up about the program, sign up, and then submit your paragraph over on the article page (you can't see the article page unless you have a Seed account). We are accepting submissions until 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday February 14th. Please follow all instructions exactly. US residents only right now, although we're told our international friends will be able to submit work through Seed soon. Good luck!

Love him or hate him, it looks like Jay Mohr is hosting BlizzCon again this year. Recently, we reported that the Anaheim Convention Center would be hosting BlizzCon toward the end of October. But there has been nothing official from Blizzard at this time. Of course, we will keep you up to date with any information we receive about BlizzCon in general and Jay's announcement in particular. Update 6:00pm: It looks like he has deleted the tweet.

  • BlizzCon 2010 tentatively scheduled for late October [Updated x2]

Just moments ago, we received an email from a reader notifying us that BlizzCon has been scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd at the Anaheim Convention Center. That's a Friday and a Saturday, which are historically the days of the week BlizzCon has run. As you can see above, the convention is indeed on the convention center's events calendar. We have confirmed with the Anaheim Convention Center that this booking is legit and is "99.9% confirmed," but I wouldn't run and arrange any travel plans just yet considering Las Vegas Convention Center confirmed that booking, too. We're reaching out to Blizzard for comment, and we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything else. Update: The listing has been removed from the convention center's events calendar, but it's preserved in the screenshot above. We will continue to keep an eye on the situation and will make updates as necessary. Update 2: Blizzard responded to our inquiry about the Anaheim Convention Center listing with this: "Blizzard Entertainment has not announced any details about the next BlizzCon. We recommend that players refrain from making any BlizzCon-related travel plans at this time."

  • BlizzCon 2010: Las Vegas Convention Center retracts statements

Update: It's looking like Anaheim again. For the past day WoW.com has been hard at work getting the story straight on the discrepancies between what the Las Vegas Convention Center was saying about BlizzCon 2010, and what Blizzard was saying. Until recently, the LVCC had been telling us, and others, who inquired that BlizzCon 2010 was being held there July 30th and 31st. Blizzard was, more or less, denying it. Given both organizations are quite large and reputable, this was quite a confusing situation. However as of this afternoon, the Las Vegas Convention Center emailed us to let us know that due to their human error, the confirmation they were giving was false. According to the LVCC, Blizzard and the LVCC had spoken once about having BlizzCon 2010 in Las Vegas, and a hold was placed on those dates as a marketing tactic to entice Blizzard to the area. However, that hold was inadvertently turned into a confirmed booking, leading to the inaccurate confirmations and resulting issues. The LVCC has apologized for the confusion, and thus ends the saga of BlizzCon in Las Vegas.

  • BlizzCon 2010: July in Las Vegas [Updated x5]

According to the Las Vegas Convention Center website, Blizzard will be holding BlizzCon 2010 in Las Vegas July 30th and 31st. Upon inquiry, the Convention Center was able to verify the dates and that Blizzard is running the event. However, Blizzard has yet to announce this themselves. We have contacted Blizzard, and we'll post anything they have to say on the matter. BlizzCon is the major fan convention for all of Blizzard's games. Past BlizzCons have launched all the WoW expansions, including Cataclysm this last August. BlizzCon 2009 had approximately 20,000 attendees. According to the Convention Center's website, BlizzCon 2010 will be bringing in 30,000 people. You can place money on the bet that WoW.com will be there covering everything. In fact, we'll meet you at the blackjack tables. Viva Las Vegas, baby! Update 4:15 p.m. PST: Blizzard has responded to let us know that they haven't announced any details regarding their next BlizzCon, and that they recommend everyone refrain from making any travel plans at this time. However, the Las Vegas Convention Center has confirmed this booking and continues to list it on their calendar. Update 10:50 p.m PST: Blizzard has contacted us further and said "As we haven't announced any details about the next BlizzCon, we can say it won't be held in Las Vegas." We're currently in contact with the LVCC and Blizzard, and will hopefully be able to provide more details on exactly what's going on in the future. Update 9:30 a.m. PST, 11-13-09: The listing from the LVCC has disappeared. However, here's a copy of the page. Update 12:30 p.m. PST, 11-13-09: The LVCC has retracted their statement. Please see the additional information.

  • Last day for WoW.com discount at SwagDog

Those awesome folks at SwagDog, who sponsor our Guild of the Month Contest, have released a new guild icon shirt design that is much simpler than their original one. Some folks like Alex really like it, and since the man has good taste, chances are you guys just might, too. That's not the only good news, though. The deal is that those guys at SwagDog have given WoW.com readers a sweet 15% discount when ordering one of these babies (the shirt, guys, the shirt). All you have to do is use the promo coupon wowicon15 when you checkout. The bad news is that that code is just good enough for today, the last day of SwagDog's cool 48-hour WoW.com promo. These shirts are fully customizable, and even though they're supposed to be guild icons, you can actually customize your own design using one of the game's many fun icons. While skulls and crossbones or dragons and axes might be cool, you can just as easily use a crying bear for that kawaii factor. Or a beer mug. It's Brewfest, after all. What're you waiting for? You've only got a few hours left! Get hopping, people!

  • SwagDog releases new design, limited time WoW.com discount

This past week, SwagDog (sponsor for our Guild of the Month contest) released their newest custom t-shirt design: The Guild Icon shirt. Whereas their Guild Tabard design is a little busy (with your muscled nerd chest being graced with a guild standard of sorts), their new design is more simplistic in comparison. Your guild icon is front and center, laid atop your faction's icon. Your character's name, race, class and server are listed in white at the bottom, and your guild name across the top. If you so choose, it looks like you have the option to leave your guild and character name blank if you really want the icon to pop. The icon itself has a really cool stone texture to it, like it's been carved out. You can check out a close-up sample of that behind the cut below. This is honestly much closer to my ideal guild t-shirt than anything I've seen yet. The simple design just seems better to me.If you agree, you're in luck! For the next 48 hours, SwagDog and WoW.com are giving you 15% off your purchase if you use the coupon code wowicon15 at checkout. Even if this is something you normally wouldn't wear, you could consider it preparation for BlizzCon 2010. No, they haven't officially announced it, but you just know it's going to happen. Plus, from the picture up above it looks like these shirts have magic powers and put the wearer into a state of rapture and/or nirvana. That's pretty cool. I'd take 15% off of nirvana.
