Stop the presses! Eurogamer tackles the scoop by Game Informer magazine that Cryptic Studio's new MMO, to be developed for both PCs and consoles, will be another superhero game called Champions Online. Scoop indeed; the news isn't even up on Cryptic's site! While it may seem strange to set up yet another superhero-themed MMO while City of Heroes/City of Villains is still getting lots of play, this could be Cryptic's way of reusing assets created for Marvel Universe Online. No word yet on whether the title has anything to do with the classic roleplaying game Champions, which is itself all about superheroes, but the addition of 'Online' to the name might be an indicator. We'll be going to GDC where Cryptic will probably announce this, so keep your ears on!

  • The problem with leveling up

I'm addicted to the Ding, as I've mentioned before; I exist to level up. But sometimes I'll be slogging along, feeling like I'm not getting any more powerful at all. For example, at Level 5, it takes me 15 seconds to kill a Level 5 ROUS. At Level 10, it takes me the same amount of time to kill a Level 10 Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. My enemies increase in level right alongside me. Where's the feeling of accomplishment?Sure, you could go backward and wipe out old, lower-level enemies with nary an eyeblink, but once you've moved on, why should you have to go back? I understand the need for higher-level enemies to act as goads, spurring the player on by promising enticing rewards once you've reached the same status they possess, but once you've reached it, how is it any different than bumping along at the same level you've always been? What's the solution?

The German Lord of the Rings Online fansite LotRO-Welten held its regular end of the month chat with LotRO devs, community managers and players. Today they posted the transcripts and, boy howdy, it's a treasure trove of Book 12 goodness. The Burglar and Guardian revamp revelations weren't too extensive as the class dev didn't make it to the chat. But Burglars were promised a stealth that can be extended to a group member and a set of skills that can be used after a successful Fellowship Maneuver. Though two classes get the spotlight for revamps, all classes are going to get small adjustments. Devs hinted that the recently revamped Hunter class make get a few of their skills improved and Champions will get some love as well, but nothing specific was mentioned.
