This funky new font is made up entirely of brands
A digital studio called Hello Velocity has created a typeface that embraces well-known corporate logos and is still somehow far less annoying than Comic Sans. The studio says it creates "thought-provoking internet experiences," and its Brand New Roman font is a clever statement on consumerism.
Love Comic Sans? Then this is the typewriter for you
Hey, sometimes actions speak louder than words fonts. And if you really, really like Comic Sans, then you're going to love this. In the name of art, a gentleman named Jesse England has designed the "Sincerity Machine," a Comic Sans typewriter. England says he altered the machine to write in the internet's favorite typeface because, well, there was nothing stopping him from doing so. But he does want everyone to know that, while creating it, he realized the font doesn't deserve all the negative flack it gets. At any rate, England was kind enough to detail how he built the Sincerity Machine, in case anyone else is interested in making one for themselves. Don't worry, we won't judge you.
April Fools' Day roundup: Google overload edition
Ah, April 1st. It's that time of the year again when the internet is rife with odd news and pranks. As before, news sites like us end up with a healthy stream of tips throughout April Fools' Day (thanks, by the way), so let us round up some of the best findings for your comedic appetite. Contenders include the usual suspects like Google and ThinkGeek, the former of which dominating the gigglesphere this year with some new "features." We also have some interesting submissions from Hulu, a font company, and probably plenty more to come as the day progresses, so keep watching this space as we add new entries to this post. Imagining a world without Microsoft
James R Stoup is writing a six part series for Apple Matters centered what would the computing landscape look like if Microsoft weren't founded lo those many years ago in the Microcomputer primordial ooze.I'll be interested to see how Apple fares in his alternative history, but I hope he points out that if Microsoft didn't exist neither would Comic Sans, and that would be a very good thing indeed.
