Creat Studios' upcoming Smash Cars game for the PlayStation Network reminds us a lot of ExciteBots, sans the mid-race sandwich-making and pie-throwing. The arcade racer is a radical departure from the studios' previous titles, focusing on high-octane in-your-face action. Cuboid, this is not.Players will have to control tiny RC vehicles and utilize nitro boosts to pull off some gravity-defying stunts. By drifting and jumping and hitting various obstacles, players will earn points in their race for first. You can expect Smash Cars later this quarter.%Gallery-48220%

Creat Studios is quickly making a name for itself on the PlayStation Network. Its PSN-exclusive titles, Magic Ball, Cuboid and Mahjong Tales have all been well received by gamers and critics alike. Speaking to Casualgaming.biz, Mikhail Glazyrin, executive producer at Creat, spoke about working with PS3 and PSN and the company's plans for the future."PS3 is a tremendous platform from which to work," Glazyrin states. As evidenced by the wonderfully diverse catalog of games on the PSN, Glazyrin revels in the freedom PSN gives developers. "The PSN platform has very few limitations, and it compares favorably to its rivals." Sony's support of Creat has been "great" according to Glazyrin, and the ability to access tools like Havok for free makes it possible to "implement real physics – even in games with a moderate budget."While Creat is finding success on PSN, the developer is looking towards the future with at least two more PSN games. PS3 isn't the only platform Creat plans on working with, however. The company is already working on games for Xbox Live Arcade and WiiWare.

You may already be familiar with Creat Studios' current PSN offerings: Cuboid, Mahjong Tales and Magic Ball, but it looks like you'll have to get acquainted with two more titles. According to MHT, the Russo-American company has plans of releasing a go-karting game and a wakeboarding title as digital downloadables off the PlayStation Store. MHT said that the new software was shown off at a private press preview last week. Both games currently don't have set names, but we suppose the kart game won't have "Mario" in it. [Via Gamerbytes]

Today's update isn't bad. Certainly not as bad as last week's, but there's something missing. Maybe it's the lack of LittleBigPlanet DLC (which is promised to start again next week), or maybe it's the lack of Street Fighter II HD, Penny Arcade and Lumines. What we do have are two demos, plenty of DLC and Creat Studio's fourth title, Magic Ball. It also appears that Europe is finally able to download all the High Velocity Bowling DLC that America has been hoarding for months now. Here's the full list:Playable Content Magic Ball full game (£7.99) Dead Space demo Skate 2 demo Add-on Content WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2008 roster update (£3.19) 3x Shaun White Snowboarding add-on packs (2x £3.99, 1x free) Brain Challenge expansion pack (£2.39) Rock Band DLC (listed after the break) Guitar Hero World Tour DLC (listed after the break) High Velocity Bowling DLC (listed after the break)

It looks like Cuboid, one of three upcoming PSN games from Creat Studios, will be released soon. A post on the PlayStation Blog by Creat Producer Olga Sokolova shows a little more of what we can expect from the game. Cuboid will sell for $9.99 when it releases "soon" and will include 66 levels (that's just over 15 cents a level). Creat promises that there will also be post-launch premium packs including new levels as well as a level editor. Check out the video after the break to see the game in action and check out the PlayStation Blog post for some details on some of Cuboid's gameplay mechanics.

A long time ago (think about a year ago), independent developer Creat Studios announced it was working on a number of PlayStation Network games. We haven't heard much from then since, but it looks like they're working on at least three different PSN games. German USK rating board added three new games, all from Creat: Cuboid Magic Ball Mahjong Tales: Ancient Wisdom Yeah, we're not jumping out of our seats on the prospects of a new Mahjong game. Regardless, it's nice to see the PSN continue to diversify its library.[Via GamerBytes]

The PSN just added a new publisher and developer of original content a few weeks ago. Creat Studios joins Sony's ever-expanding team of PSN content providers. We chatted with Matt Sughre about downloadable games and what they plan to offer PS3 owners.Creat recently signed an agreement with Sony to publish games on the PSN. Why choose PSN over XBLA and WiiWare? We have a lot of experience with Sony platforms, and a great working relationship with both SCEA and SCEE. Our long-range plans do include both XBLA and Wiiware. What's so appealing about creating downloadable games?I think for us it's the challenge of making and selling games directly to consumers that makes it interesting. We've got some talented designers on staff who have been cooking downloadable concepts for quite a while, and we're finally ready to move forward with them. It's a very exciting time for Creat Studios.

  • Aqua Teen devs to develop, publish PlayStation Network games

Fresh off of Midway's laboriously titled and unanimously panned Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am for the PlayStation 2, who can blame Creat Studios from wanting to try something different? The studio, which operates out of both Massachusetts and Russia, has announced a new deal with Sony that will allow it to develop and publish both its own and other company's games over the PlayStation Network. While no specific titles have been announced so far, we're hedging our bets that N-Cube and Warbit, two mysterious titles from Creat that appeared on last September's DualShock 3 compatibility list, are among them. Just back away from those Adult Swim licenses and we'll all stay friends.
