  • EVE Online tightens things up for Phoebe

A new blog post at EVE Online reveals that the team is working on streamlining a few of its existing features for the upcoming Phoebe patch. The first tweak is to exploration, as the team will be making data sites more valuable and frequent. Career agents will also stop blabbing so much in the mission boxes, with shorter text messages to emphasize the objectives. Finally, the team is bringing its semi-hidden expedition content into the light with easier-to-follow breadcrumbs and bug fixes: "We've added in some messaging to guide you towards these specific structures. We have also increased the percentage chance of the rarer types of expedition occurring as we simply found these figures to be too low. These combined changes should help somewhat in bringing this 'hidden' content to the surface for you to enjoy."

  • Woop woop, that's the sound of the space police: Meet CCP's "Permaband"

Now normally when we talk about EVE Online, it's about a scandal, or some theft, or just the general talk on how to pilot your virtual spaceship better. This, however, is certainly not one of those EVE Online stories. So what is this story about? Well it's a story about what happens when you add rap to CCP. And what would happen if CCP made a rap video and got many members of their staff to star in it... because they did. The guy in the top? No, he's not some aspiring white rapper (although he might be after this) -- he's Sveinn Kjarval, EVE's lead game master. The girls on his left and right? That's EVE's marketing director on the left and the CEO's assistant on the right. Now before you go running off to find this golden video of awesome, we need to warn you, it's seriously not safe for work. (Except it's safe for CCP's work, because it's CCP's offices, so it's ok to watch this video if you work at CCP.) We'd love to embed it here for ya, but sadly, due to explicit lyrics (and a techno viking), we can't. But if you're ok with some NSFW content, then do we have the link for you.

With the upcoming Dominion expansion, EVE's planets are receiving some much needed graphical love. While they don't look bad, they just don't look like the rest of the graphically updated universe anymore. But, CCP has seen the problem, and will be updating all of their planets to bring an artistic focus back on them -- especially as they will be the settings of DUST 514's battles. As the Dominion expansion has hit the test server, one of the testers made a video showcasing some of the artistic upgrades. CCP certainly has made some beautiful worlds and awesome atmospheric effects, and you can catch it all in Flamewave357's YouTube video. Another day, another salvaging mission in EVE Online. Let a friend or two jump and make sure it's clear, then head on through with the rest of your group. Today's One Shots comes to us from Sered Woolahra, who sent in this great image. Sered writes: Approaching a stargate in a Catalyst, a destroyer class Gallente vessel. It is definitely a nice early ship, chock full of high-level slots for tractor beams and salvaging - just be sure you've got someone watching your back! One Shots is in need of your screenshots - from New Eden and beyond! Send them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com? Add your name, the game it's from (guild, server and description welcome too) and you're set! It couldn't be any easier unless we snapped them for you. %Gallery-9798%

Known as the tribal race in EVE Online, the Minmatar have spent years being ground under the heels of the Amarr empire. According to lore, they have been enslaved by them, and those who have escaped or evaded capture banded together in a tribal affiliation. Their architecture, while just as useful as that of other races, tends to be towards the ragged-looking, angular and sharp side, as if it was put together on the run, or out of found parts. Today's EVE Online One Shots was sent in to us by Sered Woolahra, who captured a shot of this decrepit-looking Minmatar stargate while flying around deadspace in New Eden. Have you found an interesting set of ruins, or near-ruins, in your favorite MMO? If so, we'd love to see them. Just email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and the game it's from. A description is always welcome, but not required. We'll post them out here and give you the credit for sending the screenshot in.%Gallery-9798%

Get in, hit them, get out quick. Scan, web, fire. The universe of EVE Online is a treacherous place for even the most seasoned of pilots. You never know what's waiting through the next gate - will it be friends or foes? Will you live, or will you wind up tucking tail and running - hopefully actually in your ship, and not just in your pod. Today's One Shots shows off a great image of EVE Online sent in to us by Sered Woolahra, who captured an interesting view of one of many places where the edge of relative safety meets the unknown. Just another day of danger and risk in New Eden. Are you one of the many people who love the dangerous universe of EVE Online? If so, why not show us some of your most dangerous shots. We love the unstructured challenge of CCP's sandbox, and are always looking for great shots from New Eden. Just send those to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name. We'd love to hear your stories too, but those are never required. We'll show them off and give you the credit.%Gallery-9798%

If you want to get from here to there and have to fly through some dangerous low-sec space to do so, shuttles are the way to go. Well, that and making sure your clone is up to date, but I'll leave that to our resident EVE Online fiends to explain. Today's EVE Online One Shots comes to us from Sered Woolahra, who took this great shot of a Gallente shuttle zooming past a decrepit-looking station and sent it in to us after seeing the recent EVE screenshot showing off a ruined complex. We love danger - battle, bosses, low-sec, you name it! If you've got screenshots of some dangerous moments, we'd love to see them. Just send them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, game and locale. (Descriptions welcome but not required.) We'll post them here for everyone to check out and give you the credit for surviving long enough to get the screenshot.%Gallery-9798%

Today's One Shots brings up a question; how do you define a 'sun'? Is it only the yellow dwarf star at the center of our solar system? Or could you justifiably call the above a 'sunset' as it is just about to disappear behind the planet we see here? If EVE Online's New Eden were really our home, would their titles change? In either case, it's certainly a lovely shot showing off a red star (dwarf or giant we just can't tell) as Farrellus stops to drop off some cargo at the station. If you've been thinking about sending in a screen, there's no time like the present to contribute. Just mail those to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and the game it's from. Descriptions are welcome, but not needed. We'll post it up and give you the credit for taking the great screenshot.%Gallery-9798%

With the snowballs melted away, we're back to adventuring and exploration shots being sent in by our EVE Online readers. Today's One Shots comes to us from Farrellus, who was out cruising around New Eden in his Ishtar drone-boat when he happened upon the ruins pictured here. Certainly doesn't look like a happy place to be - at least for whoever was blown to bits. This is undoubtedly why many call EVE Online a 'sandbox with mines in it.'Have you found the ruins of an ancient (or recent) civilization in your in-game travels? Perhaps an area that just reeks of mystery or destruction? If so, we'd love to see some screenshots. Send them in to us here at oneshots AT massively.com with your name and what game they're from. Then relax and look for them in upcoming One Shots columns!%Gallery-9798%

Today we have yet another snowball shot taken over the holidays in New Eden. For all the grumbling about lag, it would seem that a lot of EVE Online players had a great time pelting one another with snowballs this year. Of course, it can be a little hard to deal all that snowy ammo flying at you when a bunch of your corpmates gang up on you, as we see in today's One Shots sent in to us by JamesS (not to be confused with our James Egan). He writes in: JamesS here from EVE Online. You wanted a snowball fight - well here's one fight just after we received CCP's gift. EVE University says Hi and Happy New Year! If you've got any fun screenshots of you and your corpmates messing around (or being deadly serious, for that matter) we'd love to see them. Just snag a quick screenshot and email it to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and whatever game its from. Corp name and a quick note are welcome, but not required. We'll post them here for all to see and let people know you sent it in. Fly deadly!%Gallery-9798%

*Foom*... *Poff!* The missile-launched snowballs have been flying fast and furious in New Eden. And hey, why not? After the holidays in EVE Online, all of the snowballs will melt anyway, so best to blow out all of that frosty ammo while you can! Today's EVE Online One Shots sent in to us by Farrellus shows off a snowball fight in progress where a great big Orca has just been pelted with snowballs and is floating amongst the flurries. Thankfully the ammo wasn't anything serious, considering what Orcas cost. If you've got a screenshot of a huge snowball battle - or any other type, for that matter - we'd love to see it. Just send those to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and what game its from. Descriptions are welcome, but not needed. We'll add it to our gallery and give you the credit for sending it in to us!%Gallery-9798%

The ships in EVE Online may be varied in look, size, and function - but all of them are extremely well modeled and lovely to look at. As many only get a chance to see other ships in battle, we're glad to present this ship today as part of One Shots. This particular screenshot comes to us from our very own Brendan "Nyphur" Drain, who writes the entertainingly informative column for us, EVE Evolved. Brendan tells us a bit about this ship today: This is an NPC Angel battleship. The Guardian Angels are a pirate faction that use primarily Minmatar weaponry such as auto-cannons and artillery. The ship seen here is called a Machariel and a version of it is available for players, with limited run blueprints dropped as rare loot at the end of hard-to-find complexes (dungeons). If you've got screenshots, we need them! One Shots is best when it has community input, so we're reaching out to you. We're looking for any and all screenshots that you think are cool. Have something to show off that you're proud of? Want to tell everyone how cool your group of MMO friends are? Or maybe you just found some area, npc, or the like that you think is pretty awesome and should be shown off. Whatever your reasons, we want to hear from you. Grab a screenshot (or a bunch) and send them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, game and any other information you'd like to add. We'll post your screen and share your tale with all the Massively readers worldwide! %Gallery-9798%

There's always something going on in New Eden. From the basics like mining and mission running to huge PvP wars, Tranquility is abuzz with activity. Today's One Shots comes from Massively's very own EVE Online columnist, Brendan Drain, who is also known in the EVE community as Nyphur. Brendan's weekly column, EVE Evolved, keeps players in-the-know on this highly interesting sandbox MMO - and the note he sent along with today's One Shots is no exception to his normal insight. Brendan tells us a bit about this interesting ship: This is an Oneiros, the Gallente logistics cruiser. Its role is basically the healer class out of other MMOs. With a massive bonus to remote armor repairer range and capacitor use, these ships are perfect for assisting with difficult level 5 missions and are very useful in organised PVP gangs. Are there any insights, tips, or tricks you'd like to give others in regards to your favorite game? Perhaps you'd like to show off your favorite ship, as our other EVE Online writer James Egan did, or you have great screens of PvP. If you've got screenshots from your favorite MMO, we want them! Just send them in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and a brief description. Yours could be the next one featured here!%Gallery-9798%

We recently ran a screenshot from our very own EVE Online fiend, James Egan, of his favorite first faction ship. Since then, other EVE Online players have written in to send us some of their favorite ships as well! Today's cool first ship comes to us from Jonathan C. (sorry, no character name given) who sent in the above image of his Angel Cartel frigate. Jonathan writes: I still fly my Dramiel around from time to time. Not really much of a ship, but it can be fun, and I still love how it looks. For a frigate class, we have to agree; the Dramiel is pretty wicked looking. If you've got a favorite method of transport in your game (be it a ship, a horse, flight form, or what have you) we'd love to see it. After all, the achievement is more fun when you can show it off -- and what better place than One Shots? Just send those screenshots in along with your name, game and a quick description of what we're seeing in the image. Mail them to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com and relax. We'll post them for everyone to enjoy and give you the credit.%Gallery-9798%

There's nothing quite as thrilling as seeing a cool piece of gear, then targeting in on it and achieving it. It's those kinds of rewards that keep many playing games; from fancy mounts and vanity pets to gear and titles. Today's EVE Online One Shots is of just such an item, and comes from our staff writer James Egan. James included the following story about this image for us: This is a Daredevil, a pirate faction ship from the Angel Cartel in EVE Online. In my first days in EVE, I caught sight of one of these aggressive-looking frigates and just had to have it. As a 3-day-old noob, it was a lofty goal at the time. I suppose it was anticlimactic when I obtained one shortly thereafter, that goal being nowhere near as lofty as I'd envisioned, but it's still a valued part of my collection. It also represents the first major bit of gear I lusted after in an MMO. Those trinkets, titles, pets, mounts, ships and awesome gear are cool, but it's always more fun if you share your accomplishments with others. So if you've had that one thing you lusted over and achieved, why not grab a screenshot of it and send it in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com. It only takes a few minutes, and you'll get to tell the world about how exciting it was to finally attain! We look forward to hearing (and seeing) your stories. %Gallery-9798%

In the darkness of space, no one can hear you scream. That is unless you're on Vent with the rest of your Corp-mates, playing EVE Online. New Eden is a dark, merciless place, where the sandbox has "land mines" as our friend Crazy Kinux likes to say every time we talk to him. Today's One Shot is from this engaging but unforgiving game, and was sent in to us by Joao. He writes: This is my screenshot from EVE. A fleet of exhumers from the corp I'm in, mining up Ice in 0.0 for the logistics in the upcoming war in defense of the North... It's a bit dark, but that's how EVE is, dark.Do you have a screenshot of you and your corp taking on a challenge together? Perhaps EVE isn't your game, but you have a fantastic guild or supergroup shot you'd like to pass on. We welcome all screens from all games, big or small, solo or group. Just send those to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with a quick description. We'd love to hear from you!%Gallery-9798%

CCP has finally opened their war declaration on boring game conventions, opening up the sales for the much-anticipated passes to the EVE Online Fan Fest. Also known as "The Party at the Top of the World", this year's Fan Fest looks to be a continuation of the excitement and fun of years past! Events scheduled for this year include all the regular events that EVE Online fans have come to love, such as PvP tournaments, lots of different presentations and panels, the Jita meetup and a silent auction. Additionally, this year players will get a chance to check out a special hands-on demo of the incoming Ambulation technology, which will allow players to finally break free of their pods! (You know, without the use of someone else's weaponry.)Passes are on sale for $75 USD, which nets you a confirmation code to bring to the event for badge pickup. Spouse passes aren't available yet, but will only be available if you've already purchased a regular EVEnt pass. Also, if you need travel and hotel there are still some spots open in Icelandair's group packages, so be sure to book soon before they all run out!
