Crysis 3: The Lost Island, a multiplayer downloadable content pack, will be available June 4 for $15 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The pack includes four new maps, two new multiplayer modes and some additional weapons. "By transporting players out of the Liberty Dome and into the Lost Island setting, we're not only returning to Crysis' spiritual roots, but also introducing fresh ways to play that provide Crysis 3 fans with genuinely game-changing new tactical options," said Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek. Crysis 3 launched earlier this year with the simple premise of: bigger, badder, bowier.%Gallery-189777%

  • CryEngine 3 already runs on Xbox One

Crysis has thrown its card into the hat of today's Xbox One announcements, to say that CryEngine 3 does indeed run on Microsoft's new console. The company is already licensed to provide middleware and tools for Xbox One, which means that any developers looking to use CryEngine 3 to make their games will have no problem running the code on the new box. There are a number of titles already announced for the Xbox One, but nothing using CryEngine 3 just yet. Don't weep, though; We're sure to hear about something soon.

  • Crysis 3 multiplayer DLC emerges via achievements listing

A new achievements listing suggests Crysis 3 is suiting up for multiplayer DLC. Posted on the typically reliable Xbox 360 Achievements, the listing indicates a 250G pack featuring four maps called Creek, Crossing, Ascent, and Coastline, and two modes called Frenzy and Team Possession. The mention of a flag points to Team Possession being a CTF variant. The DLC apparently also has a new weapon: the boat oar. We mainly wanted to mention it because the associated achievement is called 'Totally Oarsome.' EA hasn't announced any upcoming DLC for Crysis 3, although developer Crytek previously indicated it had "big plans" for post-launch content. We've reached out to EA for more info.

  • Origin exploit uses hyperlinks to run malicious code remotely

Security research firm ReVuln has discovered a fairly simple way (in theory, at least) for unscrupulous folks and their hacking machines to execute malicious code on your computer, by way of EA's Origin platform. The exploit takes advantage of Origin's uniform resource identifier -- the protocol through which hyperlinks and shortcuts launch Origin itself and execute commands. Typically, a URI is clicked on by the user, either in the form of a link in a web browser or as a shortcut on a desktop, at which point the URI launches Origin and tells it what game to load, and how.As it happens, certain Origin-exclusive games are vulnerable to having their execution commands subverted by precisely formatted URIs. As seen in the graph above, this can be used by bad dudes to piggyback instructions onto the URI, which can instruct Origin to load and run malicious software, rather than Crysis 3.Avoiding this exploit is thankfully simple, however: Open Origin first, and launch games from there. The exploitative instructions are contained within the URI hyperlink -- take that out of the equation, and you should be fine."Our team is constantly investigating hypotheticals like this one as we continually update our security infrastructure," an EA representative told us. Uniform resource identifiers aren't unique to Origin, of course, and are widely used in everything from iTunes to Steam, the latter of which has an extremely similar vulnerability [PDF] that was discovered by ReVuln last year.

  • Crysis 3 keeps its cool to top UK charts for second week

Crysis 3 is the first 2013 release to hold top spot in the UK charts. Despite a 43 percent dip in sales this week, Crytek's sci-fi shooter leads the pack again. As for last week's runner-up, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance drops a place to No 3 after a 60 percent fall in sales, while soccer stalwart FIFA 13 nudges ahead of it into second place. With no major new releases, this week's charts paint a familiar, almost serene picture. Aliens: Colonial Marines and Dead Space 3 only suffer slight drops to make it three and four weeks respectively in the top ten, while lower down the charts Ni no Kuni shows it's still got life in its JRPG veins by returning to the top 40 in 25th spot.

  • Yerli: Crysis 3 was up and running on Wii U, was 'very close to launching'

Crysis 3 rode the Wii U teeter-totter throughout 2012, with Crytek executives hinting at the possibility of development for Nintendo's console, maybe, until CEO Cevat Yerli put all the rumors to bed in January. At the time, Yerli said Nintendo and EA talked it over but couldn't work out a deal.Turns out that while Nintendo and EA talked shop, Crytek was doing more than twiddling its thumbs – it had Crysis 3 almost ready to lauch on the Wii U."We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U," Yerli tells Venture Beat. "We were very close to launching it. But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn't launch on the Wii U ourselves – we don't have a publishing license – Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die."We'd like to think its death was quick and painless, but one year of touch-and-go doesn't sound like either of those things.

  • Crysis 3 pips Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to top this week's UK charts

Crysis 3 prevailed over Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in the battle of the tightly-suited killing machines, taking top spot by a mere 5,500 copies in this week's UK charts. It's the first week of the year to see two major releases go head to head, and while Crysis 3 had PC sales in its corner, digital purchases don't count towards Chart-Track's data.Unsurprisingly given the series' roots, the PS3 was the lead platform for MGR: Revengeance, coming in at 61 percent. Xbox 360 sales dominated Crysis 3's retail performance with 57 percent of the share.Dead Space 3 made it three weeks in the top ten, dropping to sixth, while last week's leader, Aliens: Colonial Marines, pipped the space horror to fifth place. Meanwhile, early 2013 chart successes Ni no Kuni and DmC: Devil May Cry left the top 40 altogether.

On Vita, Patapon 3 is now available to download, and be sure to get the free Maverick Hunter X if you're a Plus user. Check out the full release list at the PlayStation Blog.

Do you really think Crysis 3's Prophet cares what a bunch of reviewers think of his game? Yeah, the guy in the multi-million-dollar Nanosuit is going to waste his time reading the opinions of some people on the Internet. Come on!But if you're not Prophet then why not take a quick glance at what those other reviewers had to say? And don't forget to read our review too, you scallywag! Game Informer (85/100): "This impressive graphical fidelity takes a serious hit in the transition to multiplayer. Though Crysis 3 has some of the better-designed maps in the series, the muddied textures are a far cry from the jaw-dropping visuals of the single-player campaign, especially on consoles." IGN (85/100): "It's not quite a next generation experience come early, but it's a superbly controlled, tightly paced and tactically flexible shooter with a satisfyingly focused story, and an excellent way to tie up the Crysis series... for now." Destructoid (75/100): "Crysis 3 attempts to strike a balance between Crysis and Crysis 2, but in doing so manages to lose a little bit of what made each game appealing. The result is a title that doesn't truly match the open-ended excitement of the first game nor the revelatory empowerment of the second, yet manages to provide enough of both to at least tantalize, even if it doesn't completely satisfy." GamesRadar (70/100): "A gratifying shooter experience. Even though the campaign is on the shorter side, there are a few visual hiccups, and some of the enemy AI is unbalanced, those small gripes get overshadowed by Crysis 3's tactical gameplay, beautiful environments, and superb online multiplayer. While not treading new ground for the FPS genre, Crysis 3 is a solid shooter." VideoGamer (60/100): "By the end of the game I was bored silly, and considering the scope of what was going on that shouldn't have been the case. Sadly, bar a few exceptions – a Jurassic Park-style hunting section in long grass, an open-ended assault on Ceph AA emplacements – I'd rinsed and repeated the same thing so much that I couldn't care less."

Crysis 3 distills its story down to an identifiable and simple problem – the big bad CELL corporation controls all of the power on the planet, and indentured servitude is pretty much the only way to survive. The alien race called the Ceph take a backseat for a majority of the campaign, which helps Crysis 3 to avoid the pitfalls of Crysis 2, namely that it was hard to know what was going on if you weren't already invested in the series. This time around, it's simple. A man called Prophet, clad in a powerful Nanosuit, has to help a group of rebels take down CELL for the good of all humanity. It's hardly groundbreaking narrative, but at least it's something practically anyone can identify with. The real beauty of the campaign, however, comes courtesy of its sandbox encounters. In each of these skirmishes, Crysis 3 proves a malleable melange of mayhem, a series of situations that adapt to however you wish to play. %Gallery-179127%

Bow hunting is the in thing with FPS games lately, and while Crysis 3 doesn't slack on that front, it also offers other, equally absurd weapons for exploding aliens in a hyper-stylized future environment. Why use a regular gun when you can use a 10-barreled gun infused with the power of dubstep?

More than three million players suited up for the Crysis 3 beta, EA revealed today. Ahead of the game's release next week on February 19, EA must hope that number translates into sales; Crysis 2 shipped at least three million units, but was also reportedly the most pirated game of 2011.Based on pre-order stats, the early indications look promising for the third entry in Crytek's sci-fi shooter series. EA noted 40 percent more pre-orders for Crysis 3 over Crysis 2 in its financials at the end of January, and today that number holds steady enough at 35 percent.
