Capcom has plenty of big titles in the coming months (Dark Void and Bionic Commando, to name a couple), but it looks like its fiscal year stands to get even more packed. On Major Nelson's most recent podcast, Capcom spokesman Chris Kramer mentioned "big titles for next year, Lost Planet 2 and Dead Rising 2," to the Xbox Live programming boss.Kramer told us he was talking about the next fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2009 and goes to March 31, 2010. Whenever they arrive we're sure it won't be soon enough, but, in the interim, if you've really got a zombie bloodlust, we're certain you can find other channels for it.[Via D-Pad]

  • Keiji Inafune talks Dead Rising 2 in Capcom podcast

The latest edition of the Bionic Commando podcast includes a Q&A session with Dead Rising creator Keiji Inafune. Strangely, he seems unwilling to divulge many new details about Dead Rising 2, but talks in length about collaborating with a Western developer. The sequel has been farmed out to Canadian-based Blue Castle Games, but Inafune is eager to state that developers from the original game are working very closely with the DR2 team, with conference calls occurring every week. "[Blue Castle Games] really understood the Japanese flavor that made Dead Rising so unique," says Inafune. "They showed me that they are serious about making a game that keeps that Capcom 'spice' intact, and so far it's going very well." He hopes to make Dead Rising 2 an improvement over the original, as the game will be developed from a global perspective. This level of collaboration between East and West, he says, is unprecedented for Capcom. Perhaps the Resident Evil team should look into trying something similar for its next title? In terms of actual gameplay details, there's little to glean from the podcast. Inafune does mention that the new character will be much more interesting than Frank West, but doesn't want to give away too much right now. Blue Castle feels that keeping the time management aspect of the original game in the sequel is important, but is planning a much larger variety of mission objectives. Have a listen yourself for more Dead Rising 2 tidbits.

  • They're back: Capcom announces Dead Rising 2 for PC, 360 and PS3

Click to embiggen. That "Dead Rising 2" video from last week, that kinda looked like it could have been Dead Rising 2? It was totally Dead Rising 2. Capcom has officially announced the title not just for Xbox 360, but for PS3 and PC as well! The sequel occurs years after the events of the first game -- with the zombie virus now spread throughout the United States. The action will take place in the "gambling paradise of Fortune City". The main character is apparently no longer Frank West, but some guy in a jacket instead. Of course, Fortune City is filled with new junk with which to smash zombies, including, most importantly, that hamster ball/Atlasphere thing from the video! As rumored, the game is being developed by Canada's Blue Castle Games. According to the press release, "A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process," including producer Keiji Inafune.%Gallery-44178%

  • Viral video possibly teasing Dead Rising 2

A video is making the rounds on the internet supposedly confirming the existence of Dead Rising 2. The video makes reference to the events of the first game, also noting that a drug has been created to halt the spread of the zombie disease. We're guessing said drug wasn't too effective, as the video then moves on to showcase a casino / hotel environment filled with zombies. The video also mentions a discovery of some sort by Isabella Keyes, a lead character from the first game. Finally, was that a giant hamster ball?Is this the first official confirmation of Dead Rising 2? We've contacted both the YouTube user who uploaded the video and Capcom for comment. In the meantime, let's not forget that Keiji Inafune himself stated the game was in the works during a (supposedly mistranslated) interview with Famitsu just last week. Watch the video after the break.

Recent rumors about the development, at last, of the Dead Rising sequel have turned our thoughts toward the future of such a game on the Wii. Now that we're getting Dead Rising, albeit in our own retooled version, do you think it's likely we'll see the sequel in some form? If so, will the Wii release coincide with other releases, or will it come later? Gallery: Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop [Via GayGamer]

  • Rumor: Blue Castle developing Dead Rising 2

Eurogamer is reporting that Dead Rising 2 is currently in development, but not by franchise holder Capcom. Instead, Canadian developer Blue Castle (The Bigs and MLB Front Office Manager) is developing the sequel to our favorite zombie mall game.According to Eurogamer's source, who we're told is close to the Blue Castle development team, Dead Rising 2 is in development and that Blue Castle "has obviously seen the rumors and it's been hard to keep quiet, but they can't wait to show off the game." Information that does gel with rumors we've been hearing regarding a Western development team taking over the Dead Rising franchise. But with no official word coming from Capcom and no release specifics or leaked media, we'll file this in file folder "R". That's "R" for rumor.

According to an alleged source close to the developer, Canada-based Blue Castle Games is secretly (or not so secretly, if there's any truth to this) constructing the sequel to Capcom's mall zombie slaughterfest, Dead Rising. Speaking to the folks at Eurogamer -- they've covered console wars, you know -- the source claims that the Western team "can't wait to show off the game." Blue Castle, more known for its work on ball-and-stick game The Bigs, currently lists an "unannounced Action title" on its website, designating it as an "amazing" project for multiple platforms. We have, of course, requested comment from both the developer and Capcom. Given how talkative companies usually are about unannounced and potentially nonexistent games, we fully expect to have a release date, screenshots and the inevitable cliffhanger ending before the afternoon's out.

  • Capcom teases Dead Rising on PlayStation blog

Here's everything we know about Dead Rising 2: it's coming. Really, that's it ... and even that, we don't know for sure; however, close watchers of the industry might remind you that a sequel to a successful game (now a franchise with the addition of the Wii-centric Chop Till You Drop) is more or less a certainty so, with that in mind, we've been on the prowl for Dead Rising 2 deets since the original debuted two years ago this month.... and all we've got is a handful of rumors. The first: Dead Rising 2 will be an Xbox 360 exclusive; the second: Dead Rising 2 will be multiplatform and development duties will be handled by a Western developer. Oh, and both of those rumors are from the same source. Now, along comes Capcom marketing man John Diamonon posting on the official PlayStation.Blog site, dropping the smallest of teases that would seem to not only intimate another Dead Rising sequel is in development (no way!) but that it would be heading to the PlayStation 3 as well. Diamonon's tease came in response to a barely legible comment praising the developer for supporting the PlayStation 3 and asking that despite Capcom's VP of business development and strategic planning Christian Svensson "saying that there is no chance in [sic] happening, please give us a bit of hope on Dead Rising." Diamonon's response: "You haven't seen the last of Dead Rising." Of course, we could interpret this comment any number of ways but we'd like to think that Capcom just threw a knowing wink and a smile our way. Right back atcha Cap'. [Thanks, Leigh]

  • Rumor: Dead Rising 2 being developed in the West

Continuing this week's rumor filled rumor pile of rumors, word comes down the pipeline that Capcom's no so confirmed baby Dead Rising 2 is not only real and in development, but is being worked on by a Western developer. Shock and awe!The rumor comes straight out of the March issue of EGM and although they don't reveal too many specifics, EGM does hint that Dead Rising 2's Western developer is based in L.A. Our friends over at Joystiq are putting their developer chips on Gearbox as we say "Dead Rising 2? ZOMG!" We guess it's also worth mentioning that they claim the zombie sequel is being developed as multi-platform title. Meh to that.[Via Joystiq]

  • Rumor: Dead Rising 2 being handled by western developer

The latest issue of EGM is imparting some spicy rumors upon us. Perhaps most shocking is word that Capcom may be passing the buck on Dead Rising 2, leaving the sequel in the hopefully-capable hands of a North American developer. The rumor doesn't state which studio would be working on the Dead Rising followup, although it does suggest that the developer is based in Los Angeles -- ruling out our guess of Texas-based Gearbox Studios, who only recently announced a "really big" project in pre-production. Of course, they wouldn't call it a rumor if it were necessarily true. We'd like to see Capcom remain involved with the Dead Rising franchise, but if it does in fact pass on to a western studio we can only hope it falls into the right hands.

  • EGM's Rumor Mill: Dead Rising 2, Team ICO sequel coming soon

We're not ones to pounce on rumors as readily as the tiger pounces on the lone platypus separated from its herd on their journey to the potato tree, but EGM has a pretty good track record at tossing a few hints into the fray. Their latest mag, hitting subscribers any day now, gives PS3 fans a few things to look forward to in the coming months.First off, they claim they've caught wind that Capcom is developing Dead Rising 2 right now. Not big news in itself, sure, but they claim the title is being developed for multiple consoles. Their strategy for releasing games on all systems might actually begin to hold water. The other interesting tidbit comes in the form of Sony's Team ICO. Their new project will be unveiled soon. We smell something at GDC. If not, well, it'll just be announced at random. It's up to you guys to make your own judgment calls here, though.

  • Dead Rising 2 not in the works, being considered

Considered by many to be one of the best games available on the Xbox 360, most of us thought a sequel to Dead Rising was a certainty. It may then come as a surprise to fans to learn that the game is currently not in production at all. In a recent interview, Keiji Inafune told Game Informer that he'd like to produce a potential sequel, but it's not in the works right now. Inafune adds that the game is being considered in Japan, and that it's the one project being considered that he'd like to produce the most, but there are still many technical and financial issues to be considered. X3F readers will know that both Dead Rising and Lost Planet were very successful in the west, but not so much in Capcom's native land of Japan. Anyone want to take odds odds on seeing Resident Evil 5 before Dead Rising 2?

  • Inafune says Dead Rising 2 not in production

Mmmmm, angry brains. Despite what we've been told, apparently Dead Rising 2 is not in production according to a Game Informer interview with producer Keiji Inafune. Inafune says that it is something he would "love" to make, but his responsibilities at the moment don't allow for that kind of time. He says Dead Rising 2 is a title being considered by Capcom Japan and if they announce it, he would want to produce, but he doesn't clearly state that the game is on hold because he wants to be the one to do it. Sad news for Dead Rising fans who were probably expecting an announcement that the sequel would be around sometime late next year. Despite being successful in the States and Europe, Inafune's Dead Rising and Lost Planet didn't do so well in Japan. Maybe it's time for Microsoft to apply a little pressure with Capcom on behalf of those who don't really care about Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and want a little more Frank West in their life ... we know MS knows how to spend money for what they want.

As the prettiest girl at the gossip ball, Capcom has been making quite a few headlines recently for actions they may or may not be considering. In light of the particularly bogus rumors floating concerning Microsoft buying out Capcom, lets take a look at some of the more substantiated rumors involving your favorite Mega Man sweatshop. For your consideration, three rumors from the February issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (#112). For those who still believe in the aforementioned rumor, you may as well tear down those tin foil barriers around your room as Capcom "looks to be making several interesting games for the PS3's (network) service." The two titles mentioned being a remake of Street Fighter II with brand new sprites and an "updated NES classic."
