  • Get RE4 only two years late, instead of two years and two weeks

Does your hunger rival that of the undead horde? Grab a Snickers. If that's the case, you'd probably be interested to know that the extremely anxious will (probably) be able to obtain the Wii version of the much-lauded Resident Evil 4 several weeks early, via the import site Play-Asia. Sure, it'll cost you twenty dollars more than the standard U.S. price of $29.99, and it'll probably highlight your incredible lack of patience and discipline, but those pale in comparison to the two weeks of additional ecstasy. This is not officially confirmed, so you might want to check back at their product page for updates if interested. If you do happen to obtain the game early ... or if you're reading this article from the far-flung future, in which RE4 has already undergone standard release, feel free to post your impressions.

I finally finished the children's week quests on the alliance side, after being quite busy for most of the last week. It's interesting to note how different the draenei girl is from the blood elf that Elizabeth covered earlier. Far from a girl seeming fated to grow up to be a evil-doer of some kind, young Dornaa seems to be a child destined to be a kind and powerful shaman, deeply in touch with the elements. The Exodar's resident Naaru, named O'ros, seems very impressed with her and asks you to have her visit Farseer Nobundo, leader of draenei shamanism, upstairs. She and the Farseer have already met in a dream, apparently! Nobundo is astounded that the child should have such a natural connection to the elements, and says he will petition for her to stay in the Exodar and train under him after you return her to the orphanage. At the Caverns of Time, she is approached by the Wardens of Time (and saved by the great dragon Zaladormu) just like the blood elf orphan, but the feeling of this is quite different in her context, especially since she wants to befriend a dragon someday, not own one like the blood elf. It seems to me as if a great responsibility rests on her at some time in the future, not some great and evil destiny.Does the difference between the Horde and Alliance orphans reinforce the thinking that the Horde really is generally evil (with a few who are good) while the Alliance is generally good (with a few who are evil)? Is that the balance we like? Does Blizzard need to provide more kind hordies and wicked allies?(By the way, if you haven't yet done the Children's Week quests, today [the 29th] is the last day already too late. It seems that Blizzard has once again posted one time on the calendar but gone ahead and cut it off early. Personally, it irks me when this sort of thing happens for no reason -- product delays I can understand, but cutting off a fun event before you promised you would? Grrrr!)

Ever wondered exactly how you're going to make those Plagas stop biting into your skull in the new Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition? Wonder no more, dear friends, as a rather buried link in the official Japanese website reveals a lovely trailer just rife with waggle. Looks like pretty standard stuff: shake remote, move remote in circle, stab parasitic zombie villager in the kidney with remote, you know.If nothing else, this trailer just kind of rekindled our fiery lust for Resident Evil 4 ... damn was that game good. You remember that time when you took on two Gigantes and dropped one into a giant pit of lava by ziplining across the room like a badass? Yeah. We do too.[via GoNintendo]

This is simply the coolest limited-edition box in recent memory. Forget the European Resident Evil 4 box. This Japanese Biohazard box is the business. For 3,675 yen, which is a suspiciously low $30, you get an awesome 20-DVD-capacity Umbrella Corporation biohazard storage box (itself inside an Umbrella Corporation shipping box), two keys, warning tags, and caution tape to seal it up. With a case this cool, who even needs a game? You could always buy this and RE4 Wii Edition and build your own limited edition set.[Via The Tanooki]

Nintendo of Europe is featuring a couple of trailers for Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition that should help convey how cool RE4 is to those of you who didn't play it back on the Gamecube. They also do a pretty good job of reminding the rest of us that Resident Evil 4 was pretty damn cool. After seeing the trailers and screenshots, we can feel ourselves starting to turn into Capcom's willing zombie minions. Maybe Wiimote aiming would improve the experience! Maybe waggle does trump a novelty chainsaw controller!

  • Wii Warm Up: Check out this RE4 boxart

Not so much a discussion topic today as it is a directed viewing. This is the boxart for the European release of Resident Evil 4. It's basically the PAL PS2 boxart, but white instead of red. We are now totally okay with the tacked-on waggle controls, and the fact that it's a Wii port of a game that is two years old and can already be played on Wii, because it's got really nice boxart. We're not even being sarcastic. Too bad about the "Wii Edition" thing, but we'll look past that. So what's your opinion? Awesome boxart, or totally awesome boxart?

  • DS Daily: Survival horror

We were poring over the new Silent Hill 5 "details" today (more like vague statements from Akira Yamaoka about how awesome it's going to be) and all we really know about it is that it's going to be more like Silent Hill 2 (yay) and it's coming to some consoles that aren't the DS (boo). Our first reaction is to be outraged. We love our system and we love Silent Hill and its atmospheric, psychological horror storytelling. But would we actually love them together? The larger question here extends beyond the boundaries of one foggy town: is the DS an appropriate format for survival horror? We had one outing already in Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, which a very trustworthy source tells us wasn't an entirely successful experiment. Alternately, if the major discussion topic doesn't interest you, we can just talk about Silent Hill and how great it is.

  • Wii Warm Up: Superfluous waggle

Some games, like the ubiquitous Wii Sports, use the Wiimote's space-age technology to closely map real motion into gameplay. This is generally regarded as "neat" and accepted by the masses, who run off to show their grandparents.Other games, like the upcoming port of Resident Evil 4, make no such attempt to represent physical motion as virtual motion (outside of the new knife controls). In fact, some of the motion controls seem to be simulating button presses. Case in point, reloading requires you to hold B and shake the Wiimote. That's hardly more representative of the action of reloading a gun than pushing a button, or even going into a menu.We sort of revealed how we felt there, but this isn't about us. It's about you. How does non-representative motion control affect you? Is it still fun to waggle, even when you're waggling abstractly?

  • EBGames says Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition on the way

According to a preorder listing found on EBGames' website, a new Wii version of Resident Evil 4 will be released on June 25th for $30. While we don't have any details on it, other than that EB thinks it exists, we can speculate about what it will include: the PS2 extras, if we're lucky, and a new Wiimote control scheme. It seems a little shocking that companies are already porting Gamecube games to the Wii, although Shigeru Miyamoto hinted at the prospect back in August. We can't wait to see how one of the Gamecube's most impressive games benefits from the power of a second, taped-on Gamecube.[Via GoNintendo]

A retrospective study on this phenom reveals some startling truths about our favorite crimson-adorned pipe-jockey: a history of drug addiction, racism, and dealings with the seediest portions of the underworld. Destructoid has put together an eye-opening list of the egregious offenses this plumber has leveled against you, the gaming populace, and it's your responsibility to educate yourselves forthright.

News is coming in via digg commenters and posts on forum threads linked therein which seems to indicate and give evidence that BitRocket uses code taken from the Transmission.app source without giving any attribution as required by the MIT license under which Transmission is released. These accusations are further supported by the fact that the developer of BitRocket, Julian Ashton, previously developed XFactor, a P2P application, which was proven to take code from the Poisoned project, again without proper attribution. Update: Scott, our fearless leader, did some digging and found a post on the forum thread linked that I seem to have missed. According to at least one account, BitRocket does properly credit the source it uses.

  • Resident Evil info coming next month

We now know that there is definitely a Resident Evil title planned for the Wii. It's just not Resident Evil 5, is all. Instead, evidence points toward a "Wiimake" of the original REmake on the GameCube. What evidence points to this, you say? Well, the image above this post shows a rather large update on the game is planned for the September issue of this Japanese magazine. And who is that but Jill and Chris from the REmake? Coincidence, or merely there to fill the void of information on the title?[Via Go Nintendo]

In the interest of keeping the pot stirred, GWN recently compiled their Top 10 list for GC games they'd like to see remade for the Wii. Since we're all about saving you time, we'll post the list below for discussion. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem Pikmin Super Mario Sunshine Battalion Wars Odama Resident Evil 4 Luigi's Mansion Beyond Good & Evil Donkey Konga We'd have to say that Resident Evil 4 is by far our favorite of the list as the chance to shoot Spanish-speaking villagers playing host to a disgusting life form in the face using the Wiimote is something we cannot pass up. We can't imagine that Eternal Darkness could benefit much from being remade for the Wii. How about you guys?

  • Leaked Resident Evil Wii screenshot? [Update]

Everyone is calling hoax on this supposedly leaked Resident Evil Wii screenshot. Sure, common sense would dictate that these finger-pointing internet travellers are correct, stating that this could in no way be a screenshot for the proposed game for numerous reasons. Why would Capcom ditch the over-the-shoulder cam from Resident Evil 4? Surely such an interface would work wonderfully on the Wii, allowing the player to control the character's movements with the nunchuk, hitting its trigger button to cause the player's character to raise their firearm, naturally using the Wiimote to physically aim at and shoot enemies. In all honesty, it'll be an uphill battle to validate that this screenshot is from the game. That is, if it's actually from the game.[Update: Proved to be a screen shot from the Resident Evil REmake on GameCube. We apologize for not noticing initially, but we always play as Jill.]

  • Rumor: Ubisoft character making Super Smash Bros. Brawl roster

By way of DS Revolution, we're to believe that a gamer, who naturally has an inside source at Nintendo, is telling him that a few of Ubisoft's most notable characters are being looked at to be included in the roster of characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Of Ubisoft's long line of franchise characters, the proposed character has been narrowed down to Jade, Rayman, the Prince, and Sam Fischer. Now, this is purely a rumor, but the thought of either Jade or Sam Fischer being included tickles my fancy in ways it was not meant to be tickled. Obviously, Sam versus Solid Snake would be a stealth fan's dream come true, but the thought of Jade getting in the spotlight again, which would then help bring us a much needed sequel to Beyond Good & Evil, is too much to pass up. Yes it's a rumor, but who would you like to see the cut if it turns out to be true?

In the latest weekly update from Bungie, a fan asks: "Marathon and XBLA (referring to Xbox Live Arcade): is it at all possible?" Bungie, via Frankie, responds "Of course it's possible, it's just not on any current agenda. If it's any consolation, many, many people think it's a good idea." It sucks that the statement is technically closer to a denial than a confirmation, but that won't matter: any time Bungie even mentions its legendary (originally Mac-only, I'll have you know) first person shooter series it's an excuse for Marathon fans to break out the bubbly. Just make sure you're not around when the fans swap the champagne for an M-75 combination assault rifle and grenade launcher after they realize that after they* stole Halo from the Mac platform for their* Xbox platform, they* could also be about to steal the definitive Mac game. *"They" of course refers to a certain software company beginning with the word "Micro" and ending with the word "evil".

  • Wario the Thief WiFi compatible?

Warios' upcoming title has made it into a recent Gamestop circular. The game, titled Wario the Thief, supposedly will feature Wi-Fi compatibility. Not much is known about the title besides the fact that it stars Wario and is a side-scrolling platformer, but we assume Wario will be attempting to steal something and, at one point, will drive a large pink cadillac. This could change, however. Do we all remember the original debacle of Resident Evil: Deadly Silence featuring the Wi-Fi logo? Considering that, and the gameplay that doesn't seem very Wi-Fi-friendly, maybe we shouldn't put too much stock in this lone snapshot?
