Hmm, how to convey this without spoiling a crucial element of Fable 2 ...So, you know when that event occurs? The one involving the guy who wants to do the thing? Right, so, when he pulls out the thing and performs the act, you were undoubtedly upset about the change in status of that thing. Which you had but then didn't. If your hero chose the thing (but not the other things), you would then have been left unable to find certain ... things. You know what? Just go read this thing about Fable 2's Knothole Island DLC. Beware: This golden trail leads into spoiler territory.

Look, no one is going to enjoy tomorrow's Knothole harvest if it's infested with bugs. So, Lionhead has dusted the crops, so to speak, and removed those icky pests from Fable 2 (read: automatic title update released). While the seeds were planted back in October, and some in-house sampling has been going on for the past month, it's only now that we all can enjoy the fruits of Lionhead's labour:Title update patch notes The Ritual/Monk's Quest -- "fixed the issue with the Abbott becoming unresponsive if you leave Oakfield before he finishes talking. This will fix the problem if you've already hit it, too." Rescuing Charlie/Rescue My Baby -- "after rescuing Charlie, you can now interact with objects." Guild Cave chest -- "resolves any issues with previous inability to retrieve items unlocked from Limited Collector's Edition, website or Chicken Kickin' game. If you've already hit this bug you should now get your items." The Spire (Part 2) -- "no more issues with ship captain being unresponsive." The Hero of Skill (Pirate King) -- "you'll no longer get stuck during Hero of Skill quest." T.O.B.Y./Trouble In Bloodstone -- "you'll no longer get stuck during T.O.B.Y. quests." Your child "will no longer be chosen as an assassination target." Furniture Shop in Albion (Bowerstone) "will now always have something for sale." Additional unspecified fixes In addition, the "Tales of Albion" companion site has been updated with Knothole lore.[Image Credit: Linda N.]

Lionhead has informed Eurogamer that the Fable II DLC entitled "Knothole Island" will be arriving on Xbox Live Marketplace on December 22. Set to debut the same day, Lionhead will also release a patch for Fable II that will allow players that have the DLC to play co-op with those who don't. Naturally, access to the DLC will be blocked during such co-op sessions, so don't go thinking you can play it for free if a friend buys it. The DLC will also include some free goodies, including Assassin's Gloves, a weight loss potion, Knight's Boots, a book (yay?), among other things. The Knothole Island DLC, as previously announced, will cost 800 Microsoft Points.%Gallery-37841%

Click to embiggen Lionhead has released three, and only three, new screenshots of the upcoming Fable II Knothole Island DLC. The screens show off some of the new characters you'll meet as well as some of the new locales to be explored. We're particularly enamored of the snowy mountain seen above. We're not sure what lies at its icy peak, but there is quite obviously a path leading there. It just screams Yeti, doesn't it? Could we at least hope for a snow troll? Check out the screens in the gallery below. The release date for this 800 MS Point DLC has still not been announced.[Via Joystiq]

click to embiggen Lionhead has released a handful of new images from its upcoming Fable 2 premium DLC, Knothole Island. In addition to two more shots of the snowy tundra environment, the screenshots offer a free-floating (if they're not going to stop using it, why should we?) glimpse of the new leather-clad biker outfit. It's about as macho as we expected it to be. There's been no update on the release date for the 800/US$10 DLC, which was previously announced as coming in "mid-December."%Gallery-38447%

Well, that ruins our week. "The big bods over in Redmond decided that, this week wasn't the time to tell you what that announcement is we have ready here in Guildford," laments a new post on the Fable 2 Dev Blog. If we can somehow suffer through another weekend, though, Lionhead assures us it has permission to drop the free-floating "" news on Monday, November 24th. That way the studio can't possibly steal any thunder from (or get buried in) this week's new experience.Speaking of, the Fable 2 folks have created a new NXE theme to celebrate the most-hyped dashboard update in history. • October NPD: Wii up, Sony down, Fable 2 raking in the gold

October hardware sales in North America were not good for Sony, with all three of its consoles seeing at least an 18% drop, according to this month's NPD report. The Nintendo Wii maintained its top spot with a 17% increase in sales, likely due to an increase in supply, while Xbox 360's price drop acted as the likely catalyst for its 6.85% increase.Overall, total sales reached $1.31 billion, an increase of 18%. While accessories dropped 8% to 120.19 million, hardware increased 5% to $494.74m and software sales increased 35% to $696.79m. Fable 2 took the top spot, selling an impressive 790K copies after only ten days of release. Speaking of software, Fallout 3, which we know has moved 4.7 million units worldwide, placed third for the Xbox 360 with 375K. Not making it into the top ten? Wii Music, which sold a disappointing 81K in its first 11 days of launch. That wouldn't have made the top ten for any NPD report this year. - Wii: 803K 116K (16.89%)- DS: 491K 45.8K (-8.53%)- Xbox 360: 371K 23.8K (6.85%)- PSP: 193K 45.1K (-18.94%)- PS3: 190K 42.4K (-18.24%)- PS2: 136K 37.5K (-21.61%)Full software sales after the break.

Oh, Lionhead. The Fable 2 publisher, no stranger to hyping its products (with both good and bad results), is at it again. A posting on the developer's website reveals, "We've got some news [emphasis theirs] for all Fable II fans next week, dare I even say it's quite a big announcement? Yes of course I dare say it's a big announcement regarding Fable II, next week!" We're not quite sure why they felt the need to make "Good" its own image file for emphasis, but it looks like we'll find out soon enough. "," we say, "

  • The Daily Grind: Fallout or Fable?

Look, gamers. We know you're not just playing MMOs. You've got to get your Bejeweled fix in once in a while. I'm sure at least some of you are happily awaiting the release of today's Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 2. And ... LittleBigPlanet? Hello? Normally we wouldn't talk about games like that because big-sis site Joystiq has all of those covered and more. But when two open-world games are released for the 360 at the same time, it's hard not to sit up and take notice. Peter Molyeneux's Fable 2 is like an MMO with heart, essentially. Capture the love and adoration of a fantasy world's populace, or grind them unrelentingly beneath your bootheel. Meanwhile Fallout 3 offers up a vision of post-apocalyptic awesome that has nearly everyone this blogger knows head-over-heels for Bethesda's grim vision of war. With two such amazing almost-MMOs on the scene this week, we know a few of you tired of Warhammer and waiting for Wrath have to be giving your consoles some TLC. So ... which is it? Fallout, or Fable? Alternatively, you could kvetch at us for bringing up single-player games, we're okay with that too!

  • Fable II players report game breaking glitch

    by

    10.24.2008

We've been receiving reports from several gamers -- and the Lionhead forums are positively buzzing -- about a game breaking glitch in Fable II. The glitch occurs during the quest called "Monk's Quest," in which players are tasked with speaking to the Abbot of the Temple of Light in Oakfield. Apparently, if players run into the temple, begin the conversation with the Abbot, and then leave the region before the conversation is finished, they are be unable to resume the quest, thus preventing them from completing the main story. Lionhead is currently working on the issue and advises all players to make sure to finish the conversation and cut scene before leaving the area. At the moment there is no fix for those who have already encountered the glitch.Another glitch discovered in the game causes those who take one of their heroes into co-op with another player starting a new game. Apparently, when leaving childhood, all experience and gold will be wiped from the co-op character. Lionhead hopes to address this glitch in a title update, but advises players to only play co-op after the childhood stage has been completed.[Thanks to everyone that sent this in]

    10.20.2008

After already announcing that the Fable II co-op patch was complete, Lionhead has announced that the Fable II co-op patch is ... erm ... complete. We're not really sure why the second announcement has gone up. Both mention that the patch is done, ready for the game's launch, and that gamers wouldn't even have known that co-op was ever missing. We're guessing the kicker is that the patch has cleared certification, which was offered as the only caveat in the original announcement. So, just to be clear, the patch is really, really done and those with a copy of Fable II will receive it via an autoupdate when they first start the game.[Via Joystiq]

click to enlarge During the 15.78 hours I've played Fable II (which the game measures out as 56,796 seconds) I have earned 987,502 experience, completed 13 quests, dispatched 28 trash-talking gargoyles, opened 1 demon door, bought 14 buildings (3 houses, 11 shops), shot 11 enemies in the groin, acquired 4 scars, and -- because I finally felt like getting around to it -- saved the kingdom of Albion from a particularly evil doom. The story begins much earlier than all of that, of course, in the kingdom of Albion, in the streets of Bowerstone Old Town, where Rose and her sibling, known to her as 'Sparrow,' dream of a better life.%Gallery-34846%

    10.17.2008

Hot on the heels of the live action destiny trailer, Lionhead has released the official Fable 2 launch trailer. The trailer focuses on the same central theme as the destiny trailer, only this one is composed entirely of gameplay footage. With central question being "Who will you become?" we're treated to a very wide variety of different characters from burly pirates to lithe assassins. We also get a peak at some impressive landscapes. Since the trailer puts for it's question so bluntly, we might as well ask: what do you plan to do when you pick up Fable 2 (assuming you plan to). Oh, and those of you wanting to see the trailer in HD, it's currently available on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Way back in August, we reported that a Master Chief outfit -- a Spartan outfit, if you want to get technical -- would be making an appearance in Fable II. Now, thanks to DailyGame, we have the first screenshots of the outfit, which is known as Hal's Outfit in the game.. It looks slightly different from the original images. Overall we'd say it's closer to the actual look of the Chief's iconic suit. Also pictured in the new screenshots is the energy sword -- Hal's Sword. It looks nice and all, but it only deals a paltry 22 damage, so let's hope it has some amazing bonus properties. Head over to DailyGame for more images.

It looks like Fable II will be receiving its much publicized online co-op enabling patch on day one after all. In the wake of Lionhead's Peter Molyneux saying he hoped for a day one solution, community guru Sam has announced that the co-op patch is complete, saying, "It looks like we've done it...for all of you who are connected to Xbox Live, when starting up your copy of Fable II (on 21st October in USA, 24th October in Europe and 18th December in Japan)." Definitely good news for those looking to team up and fight the good fight for the fate of Albion. Even better news for those planning to do more important things, like buy up the Cow and Corset with their gambling winnings and share a free pint with a friend.[Thanks, BA]
