Even Fall Out Boy is ripping off Flappy Bird
Once you've collaborated with everyone from Lil Wayne to Elton John where does a multiplatinum, swoopy-haired emo band like Fall Out Boy go next? The answer is apparently ripping off viral mobile hits. Today, the saddest men in rock music announced via Twitter the upcoming release of "Fall Out Bird" once the app gets approved by the App Store. rome (sic) wasn't built in a day, but this game was. in the spirit of Fall Out Boy Trail (http://bit.ly/1bPGoW9), we bring you Fall Out Bird. coming this week to Google Play and The App Store (as soon it's approved). shoutout to the OG Flappy Bird, RIP This isn't the band's first time dipping their toes in the water of tribute games. In 2009, the band released the aforementioned Fall Out Boy Trail where players reenact the famous Oregon Trail by pulling the band's van with oxen. That game was surprisingly fun, so we're crossing our fingers the band can show the same respect for Flappy Bird that they showed that classic title. Even if they don't, at least this current publicity stunt gave us this wonderful gif.

Fall Out Boy goes on Oregon Trail, dies of starvation
We're used to winning our concert tickets by being the ninth caller or answering obscure trivia (the kind that only someone with a pillow shaped like the singer would know). The band Fall Out Boy, however, has other plans. The Illinois rockers recently rolled out a faithful parody of edutainment classic The Oregon Trail for fans to play for a chance to score passes to the band's latest North America tour. The game, appropriately titled Fall Out Boy Trail, sets players upon a long and arduous tour that mixes together original elements, such as rationing food (band mates need delicious McNuggets and Vitamin Water to stay healthy) with Guitar Hero-style minigames that test even the quickest fingers. Unfortunately, our attempts to reach the end of the tour thus far have been felled by dehydration, constipation or the occasional zombie surfer. Still, as fun as it is the watch the pixelated band suffer at our hands, we're just as interested to read your misadventures with the alternative rock quartet in the comments below.[Via The Escapist]
Fall Out Boy is your (and our) Artist of the Month
Love 'em. Hate 'em. Kinda-sorta are okay with them, it doesn't matter, because Fall Out Boy is the December Xbox Live Artist of the Month.Fall Out Boy's AoTM honors come in the wake of their upcoming album release Folie à Deux which includes their recently released single "I Don't Care" which coincidentally is already available as Rock Band DLC. As with all Artist of the Month bands, new and old video content will is available for download off the Marketplace. Interesting album art, eh?
Screen Grabs: Fall Out Boy rails against product placement, enjoys the rewards of product placement
Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com. In a rare twist of good luck, we're able to bring you a very special Screen Grabs featuring both Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz and the Nokia 7610. Apparently, the band's new video for the song I Don't Care -- which was heavily hyped by both label and artist for its multifarious cameos (Pharrell, Mark Hoppus, Spencer Pratt), and sharp lambaste of modern rock bands as "dudes wearing eyeliner and hawking energy drinks" (AKA Fall Out Boy) -- turned into something very different. According to Wentz on a now-removed blog post, the painstaking edit he worked on with director Alan Ferguson was jettisoned for an oddly product placement-filled extravaganza. In his words: "The version of the video that we worked on night after night is not the version that aired, yet somehow a cut full of glorious camera-phone shots did." Luckily for us, a major blow to the band's creative endeavors can be salvaged as another look at a piece of technology we know and certainly love. Video after the break, volume most definitely optional.[Thanks, Junior]
Rock Band Weekly: Fall Out Boy, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Angels & Airwaves
This ain't a scene, it's a Rock Band Weekly update post. Next week the band that people argue whether it's emo or not, Fall Out Boy, adds its song "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race" to the music store. Don't lie, when it's on the radio while you're driving you sing along. Actually, all the songs sound like fun if you're in a non-snob music mode.Scene pack (440 Microsoft Points / $5.50) "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race" - Fall Out Boy (160 MS Points / $2) "Date With The Night" - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (160 MS Points / $2) "It Hurts" - Angels & Airwaves (160 MS Points / $2) As usual, the tracks will be available next Tuesday and Thursday for Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively. Videos for the songs are after the break.
Halo 3 gaming with Fall Out Boy
This Friday, October 12th from 4-6:00PM eastern Fall Out Boy will be on Xbox Live fragging with their compatriots in a little Halo 3 matchmaking. As part of the Game with Fame festivities, Fall Out Boy members Andy Hurley and Joe Trohman (ahh, no Pete Wentz) will be showing off their Halo 3 FPS skills for a few hours. And if you want to get in on the action (and like, who wouldn't?), send a friend request to Gamertags "FallOutBoyAndy" and / or "FallOutBoyJoe" by Friday and maybe you'll get to play with them. Because, you know, that's how this Game with Fame thing works ... or so we think.
Harmonix quits the band, starts up new project
As a follow-up to our speculative post regarding the future of Guitar Hero development, Harmonix has cleared up the whole mess in an interview with Gamasutra. We'll hit you with the good news first: Harmonix is in fact working on a brand-new music title. The (possibly) bad news being that they will not be involved with Guitar Hero III, leaving that title in the hands of, presumably, Neversoft.Regarding the new project, Harmonix producer Daniel Sussman took time away from reading the blogs of his favorite Laguna Beach cast members to say it's "a bigger and more ambitious endeavor than we felt we could pursue within the bounds of the Guitar Hero franchise." Though he could have just been talking about the new Fall Out Boy album (they're still hot with the kids, right?), we're excited all the same for whatever the future may hold for the MTV-owned developer.
Nintendo Fusion Tour begins, no one listens to the music
Truth be told, if you're headed off to one of the Nintendo Fusion Tour in numerous locations around the country, you're probably not heading there for the music. Hawthorne Heights and Relient K may excite the plebian youth, but not seasoned and impossibly articulate gamers such as ourselves. No, we are drawn to higher forms of art and diversion. Like, you know, pretending to hula hoop to earn a green checkmark on a bright screen. In any case, the NFT kicked off with its opening act in Columbus, Ohio last night, and we've got some early impressions of the event. Wii and DS units galore, but nothing Earth-shattering, save perhaps for the mysterious disappearance of the glowing blue light from the propietary slot-loading DVD drive. It's a rather disturbing absence, as that remains on the coolest aesthetic features of the console. Is it gone for good? Read the full impressions after the jump.
