  • Canadian PS3 Fallout 3 save files apparently not transferring for GOTY edition

A couple of threads over at Bethesda Softwork's forums reveal that Canadian PS3 owners are having a problem getting their previous Capital Wasteland save files to be recognized by the newly released Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition. Speculation by forum posters about the cause of the issue seems to revolve around either improper/outdated patching or that the GOTY edition isn't compatible with a version of the game sold in the region. We've been in contact with Bethesda this morning, which is aware of the problem and is currently trying to figure out precisely what the issue is before it makes a statement. We'll update as soon as we learn more.

The highlight in this week's PSN Update is that The Bats is back with more free DLC. Also, for Fallout 3 owners not planning to trade up to the "game of the year edition," the single most important piece of DLC for the game, Broken Steel, is now available from the PSN store for $10. For those who don't know, Broken Steel takes away "the ending" of the game and allows the (anti-)hero of the Capital Wasteland to continue their journey with an increased level cap. Check out the full update after the break -- and, sadly, no Trine. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Remember Harrison Krix, that talented mofo that made the Portal gun and that crazy awesome Big Daddy costume? Well, Krix has done it again, this time recreating the early-level staple of Fallout 3, the Laser Rifle. He's provided his usual ridiculously long step-by-step process on the creation of the almost-a-firearm, so give it a gander if you're so inclined. Now if only he'd make some replica Mirelurks for us to pretend-shoot at ...[Via BethBlog Twitter]

digg_url = 'http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/fallout-3-goty-edition-ps3-dlc-dated/'; Bethesda assured us that the Fallout 3 downloadable content packs for PS3 would be available starting at the "end of September," and, as promised, Broken Steel will be up on September 24. It'll be followed by Operation Anchorage and The Pitt on October 1, and Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta on October 8. Today, the publisher released an update for Fallout 3 to add trophy support for these DLC packs. In just a few weeks, PS3 owners will be totally caught up with Xbox gamers! Except, of course, for the ... many hours of gameplay required to complete any of these packs. Bethesda also confirmed the October 13 release date for the Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition, available on PS3, Xbox, and 360, and including the game and all the DLC. It will indeed cost $59.99, as retailers listed the title last month.

Fellow wanderers of the Capital Wasteland, behold what Atom has bestowed upon us: the Fallout 3 premium theme. The glorified post-nuclear wallpaper sells at a standard bottle cap conversion rate of 240 ($3 in pre-war money); however, those who purchased all five of Fallout 3's expansion packs can download the theme for free on October 1.Those obtaining the theme for free will "receive a token from Microsoft" according to Bethesda. We're still a little fuzzy on the specifics, but that's probably because we've been sniffing punga spores. We're still working on getting more details about how the free version will work, but those who want to buy the theme can drop those caps now.Update: Microsoft will be emailing the codes, so make sure the email attached to your Live account is functioning.

  • Bethesda suing Interplay over Fallout MMO

Things weren't looking good for Interplay earlier this year and, uh, much hasn't changed since then. Even though the company had virtually no money, it still wanted to make the Fallout MMO, Project V-13. Well, Interplay's got another hurdle now: Bethesda. The Oblivion and Fallout 3 developer claims that Interplay infringed on its trademark, court documents show. Interplay disagrees, obviously, and says it still holds the rights to develop the title with Masthead Studios, even though it failed to commence the stipulated full-scale development by April 4, 2009. Gamasutra has more info on the lawsuit, which also mentions Interplay's licensing of the original Fallout games for digital distribution through services such Steam, GOG.com and GameTap. Bethesda says this has caused "immediate, substantial, and irreparable harm." But, hey, it's not all frowns and sad faces. Above this text is a neat piece of concept art for Project V-13 from Natiq Aghayev. Man, we never thought post-apocalyptia could look so good. • Bethesda and Interplay lock legal horns over Fallout MMO

In a month of lawsuits, another one has hit the table. This time the participants are Bethesda Softworks, best known for The Elder Scrolls series of games and the recent hit Fallout 3, and Interplay, the original holders of the Fallout license. The lawsuit stems from the longstanding agreements between the companies regarding the Fallout IP. Namely Bethesda was allowed to take the rights to the IP except for the case of a Fallout MMO, which would be under the control of Interplay. Interplay would keep these rights as long as they secured funding for the game and began production by April.Bethesda is asserting that Interplay has breached their agreement, citing that development on the title (which has been hidden under the thinly disguised title "Project V13," standing for "Vault 13," a shelter in the Fallout universe) has not yet begun. Interplay asserts that it still holds the rights to develop Project V13 with the assistance of Masthead Studios, the group behind the upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi MMO Earthrise.Want more info? The legal documents regarding the suit have been unearthed, and are ready for your perusal.[Via VG247]

  • Fallout 3 DLC Trophies show up in player profiles

New trophies tied to the downloadable content for Fallout 3 have appeared on player profiles recently, leading some to pray with all their might believe Bethesda could release the content early. Originally planned for a late-June release, the first of Fallout 3's DLC was delayed by Bethesda to the "end of September." Whether the appearance of the trophies signify an early release for the DLC or not, it appears the content is just around the corner for those clamoring for an excuse to revisit the Wasteland.Whenever it releases, the first downloadable content for the PlayStation 3 version of Fallout 3 will be the level-raising adventure 'Broken Steel' -- originally the third DLC pack for Xbox 360 users. If Fallout 3 has yet to make its way into your library and you're the inquisitive type, you can check out the new trophy listing [via Kotaku] after the break.

Another evening, another set of realms are offline. It appears to be a continuing saga lately. My guess is that Deathwing is a little anxious to get started with his destruction and is causing all these problems. But really, all these realms offline are okay with me -- because I've been engaged in a captivating game of Fallout 3 as I get over some BlizzCon crud I've come down with. Yes internet, you needed to know that. The realms offline tonight are expected to be down until 10:30 p.m. EDT, but I wouldn't count on them coming up on time. They rarely do.It also appears a lot of people are stuck at "Connecting..." Although there has been no official response to this yet, we have been able to verify it happening at least. The entire list of realms currently affected after the break. And while you're waiting, why not look at some hawt BlizzCon cosplay? After all, who doesn't want a little succubus in their evening browsings?Update: Things appear to be coming back online... no promises here though.%Gallery-70720%

Ever wonder what Fallout 3's Capital Wasteland would look like set to dramatic music, timelapsed, and shot in super high resolution? Now's your chance to find out! Eurogamer's Digital Foundry has given just such a treatment to the game via the PC iteration, cranked up to 11. (Is that even possible?!) The idea behind the video is to show what Fallout 3's engine was capable of -- and we think you'll agree that it meets some very impressive results. Check out the full video here ... or go get auto-tuned. Will you take the moral high ground or lounge in the gutter? The choice is yours!

Following May's Anchorage and The Pitt combo-pack, Bethesda has confirmed with Joystiq that the second Fallout 3 DLC retail pack featuring Broken Steel and Point Lookout will hit store shelves on August 25 for $20 on both Xbox 360 and PC. You'll need Mothership Zeta – the fifth and "final" piece of Fallout 3 DLC – to round out your DLC collection. It's currently available for $10. If you're late to the Fallout 3 bus, you may want to consider holding off until October when you can pick up the previously announced Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition which bundles the game with all five DLC packs. It's currently listed for $59.99 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases, and $49.99 for PC with an October 13th release date on both Amazon and GameStop. Unfortunately, Bethesda's not ready to talk about it until that last DLC pack is out the door so consider those prices and that date boring 'ol retailer placeholders.

Attention Wastelanders, brand spankin' new DLC is available now for Fallout 3. The 'Mothership Zeta' DLC includes a new spaceship to explore, scads of new alien weaponry and plenty of space-faring action (in space). Check out the video above for a sneak peek. If it tickles your fancy, it can be had on Xbox or PC for 800 ($10). And remember, this is the final Fallout 3 DLC, so if you're looking for something new, this is your last chance. It appears that Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta is the last DLC adventure for the (anti-)hero from Vault 101. MTV Multiplayer took note of the wording on Bethesda's website for the game, which states that the latest piece of content is the post-nuclear saga's "final DLC."We're currently following up with Bethesda to see if they have called it quits on the Wasteland, which means that the next time we'll be hearing from the world of Fallout will be during our trip to New Vegas next year. Come on, Bethesda. There's still some uranium to squeeze from the glowing stone.Update: Bethesda says "never say 'never,' but this is the last DLC we have planned."

Whether you pronounce it Mothership Zeta or Mothership Zed-eta, the fact remains that the aliens are coming to cause some trouble in Fallout 3's Capital Wasteland very soon. Beyond a trailer of what to expect when Mars (Jupiter, Uranus?) attacks, there is also a developer's diary on the little details of the DLC's creation.Mothership Zeta will be ready to abduct our wanderer and our wallets on August 3 for 800 ($10) on PC and Xbox. The PlayStation 3 version will be available at a later date, and we'll let you know when the little grayish-green men inform us of that abduction date.

Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta is ready to teach the Capital Wasteland a lesson with a new perk and weapons. We'd previously received a communique about new weaponry, but Bethesda's Fallout 3 content guy, Jeff Gardiner, tells MTV that there's even more stuff to wrap an itchy trigger finger around.Beyond the Alien Atomizer and Drone Cannon, there will be a new rifle, the Alien Disintegrator, and the Cryo Grenade, which will freeze the enemy in its tracks. There's also the new perk, Xenotech Expert, which increases the damage of alien weapons. Hopefully, Zeta will also have plans to teach the wanderer how to make more ammo for these weapons once he's back on terra firma and searching the wastes.%Gallery-67909%[Thanks, Andrew]

Fallout 3 will not get higher level cap

    07.18.2009

Bethesda likes you just as you are, Capital Wastelander. At the very least you don't need to keep working on that level grind in Fallout 3, as Bethesda's Jeff Gardiner confirmed to MTV Multiplayer that the game's level cap won't be raised beyond 30. (Back in May, the game's Broken Steel DLC increased the maximum possible level from 20 to 30.)He did, however, note that he's "sure we'll [Bethesda] look into addressing these concerns in future games." Though the company is farming out development of next year's expansion Fallout: New Vegas to Obsidian, the Fallout IP is still very much in Bethesda's hands -- making us wonder if we'll see what Mr. Gardiner is talking about as soon as next year. %Gallery-50700%

  • Fallout 3 PS3 DLC 'by end of September,' starting with Broken Steel

    07.13.2009

June came and went with no sign of the PS3 Fallout 3 DLC, as promised. A new post on the PlayStation Blog reveals that the content will be "releasing later than originally expected." You don't say. Quite a bit later, actually, as we should be seeing the first packs being released "by the end of September." Ouch. There is some good news, though. Seeing as there's such a large delay, Bethesda will be changing the order in which the packs will be released. Broken Steel -- which expands the game beyond its original ending and increases the level cap -- will be the first pack to be released, with Operation Anchorage and The Pitt coming soon after. The latter two may well be released simultaneously, as an apology for the delay. The two new packs, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will then be made available "as soon as [Bethesda] can."

You really have no excuse for not owning Fallout 3 at this point. Not only is it a really excellent game, it's packing tons of value with all the different DLC available. And let's not forget the indescribable pleasure of having Danny Kaye songs endlessly stuck in your head. Now that the game's been slashed to $24.99 for the weekend on Steam, you have less than no excuse. It's like ... negative excuse, which we believe means you're legally obligated to buy a copy, even if you already own one.

OK, we're sure this has been floating around the tubes for a bit, but we're more than happy to devote some attention to the very cool Brotherhood of Steel costume you see above. Made out of awesome and love (probably some foam and paint in there too), the beautiful homage to Fallout 3 was apparently completed back in March. After seeing this, we don't feel so bad about losing that auction for the 7'10" Brotherhood of Steel statue. We'd go to work wearing this costume if we could.[Thanks, Gawk]
