We're not entirely sure what's going on with the mood swings of Army of Two: The 40th Day. On one hand, it's a bromance buddy comedy. On the other hand, it is about some serious stuff. The latest trailer debuted at GamesCom looks intense, showing feats of terrorism that send chills down our spines. Split-screen co-op is highlighted in this trailer, reminding us of the series' emphasis on teamwork. In spite of the first game's faults, The 40th Day looks like a strong contender in the crowded Q1 lineup.

  • The very serious story of Invizimals

Invizimals was one of the biggest surprises for us at E3. Shown only behind closed doors, we were captivated by its unique camera-based, Pokemon-inspired gameplay. It felt "magical," and we think you'll agree once you see this story trailer. As you can see, these critters are real, only visible through the PSP camera. But what if the energy of these invisible animals could be weaponized? Terrifying, isn't it? As the trailer shows, this is serious, Academy Award-winning stuff. You will not witness truer human drama.

With all the LittleBigPlanet news that's been spreading as of late, you haven't forgotten about ModNation Racers, have you? "Play, Create, Share" jumps into the world of kart racing. One of the big draws of ModNation Racers is the ability to create courses far more quickly than the average LBP level, while still being able to control minute details. At E3, the San Diego Studio created a level in front of a live audience in just a few minutes. Here, the process is accelerated down to a ninety second trailer. The game certainly has our interest piqued. We're certainly eager to get our hands on the upcoming beta.

Only hours after announcing it for Japanese release, Sony has revealed LocoRoco Midnight Carnival for European (and presumably American) release. As Justin correctly predicted, there isn't much to localize when it comes to LocoRoco. Unlike previous LocoRoco releases for PSP, this one will release exclusively through the PlayStation Network. From what we can tell from the trailer, this is a far more arcadey game than the originals, with a stronger emphasis on combos, times and scores. Anyone else reminded of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat? While Midnight Carnival was originally announced as a "PSP Go game," don't forget that all PSP models, from Phat to 3000 can play all PSN downloadables.%Gallery-70515%

  • LittleBigPlanet PSP creation mode looks just like PS3 version

Playing only makes up for one third of the "Play, Create, Share" motto. We know LittleBigPlanet for PSP plays a lot like the PS3 version. But, how's the creation aspect? Sony Cambridge shared a new trailer at Gamescom today highlighting the creation tools of LBP PSP.For better or for worse, it looks exactly like it did on the PS3. The Pop-It tool seems to drive the familiar experience, giving players access to a variety of textures and objects. The PS3 editor certainly has been successful so far (creating over a million levels so far), but those that expected a more streamlined process for the handheld version may be disappointed.

click for bigger pretty God of War creator David Jaffe once said that the third game in the series looks "like a painting come to life." After seeing the new screens of the game Sony delivered at Gamescom, we're more inclined than ever to agree. The image above may look like a conceptual painting, but one click and you'll see a larger version that you can just tell is in-game. The rest of the batch show off a new helmet-wearing miniboss that Kratos will battle in his war against the gods. Seems a shame to destroy something so fantastic looking, doesn't it?%Gallery-70388%

The story started in Tools of Destruction comes to an epic conclusion in A Crack in Time, the end of the first Ratchet & Clank Future trilogy. This new trailer released in time for Gamescom delves into the intricate time-bending story, and shows the surprising importance of Clank's role in the universe. Looks like the stakes have never been bigger before in a R&C game. Watch carefully, and you'll see a planet explode real nice in this trailer.A Crack in Time will reunite a lot of familiar faces. We're just glad Captain Quark is back (he was absent in Quest For Booty). Certainly, his bumbling antics will get even more crazy when time travel is involved!%Gallery-70397%

  • Use your eyes of judgment on this Eye of Judgment PSP trailer

As previously announced, Eye of Judgment is making its way to the PSP. This trailer – fresh from GamesCom – answers all of our pressing questions from before. How? It looks as though Eye of Judgment won't support the PSP camera, as previously speculated. Instead, the PSP version looks to take advantage of an in-game deck, and will feature a brand new story, complete with comic book-style cutscenes. Gameplay will be rebalanced for the PSP game but we wonder -- without the camera gimmick, will people still be interested?

With GamesCom has come the announcement of a brand new boxed expansion for Age of Conan -- Rise of the Godslayer. Age of Conan fans rejoice, you have been loved.Rise of the Godslayer, however, will not be an expansion as your normally understand it. Instead of expanding the game vertically, like so many other MMOs, RotG will be expanding the game horizontally. The level cap of 80 isn't changing, but expect RotG to be adding much more meat to the lower levels of the game's content -- specifically from level 20 (and the end of Tortage) up until 80.RotG will also be adding Robert E. Howard's vision of the far east -- the Empire of Khitai -- and the brand new race of the Khitan. Khitans will be starting in Tortage, like all of the other slaves, but don't expect to magically appear in the empire once you get done. Khitai will be reserved exclusively for higher level characters, while lower level characters will have to make a great trek across the lands. For even more scoops than we could fit into this post, head on over to Eurogamer and check out their first impressions of the new expansion. Or, if you love us, you'll jump over the break and check out the first trailer for the new expansion, embedded right in this post![Thanks, JP!]

Sony had two big announcements for the PSP at GamesCom today. First up was the "PSP Minis" service, which opens the platform to bite-sized, iPhone-esque applications under 100MB in size. Launching the same day as the PSP Go, the service will greatly expand the content available on the PlayStation Store. The initial lineup of games, seen in the video above and gallery below, include a variety of little-known titles like Break Quest, Melody Bloxx, Circles, Flexis, Puzzle Scape, Sudoku, Tetris, Zombie Tycoon, Little Track. This is but a small sampling of the Minis' launch lineup. Additionally, Sony made the Digital Comics service for the PSP official. The first announced partner is Marvel, but many more are to be announced in the future. In a chat with Eric Lempel, we found out that details like pricing and placement on the XMB are still being determined. You can check out a video of the service after the break. %Gallery-70375%

The little-known retro-themed PSN shooter, Gravity Crash isn't staying still on PS3. SCEE stealthily revealed a PSP version at Gamescom. Like its big brother, Gravity Crash will be distributed through the PlayStation Network. Looking at the trailer for the PS3 game (above), it's clear the transition to PSP should be rather easy. Both versions of the game are being developed by Just Add Water, but it appears that only the PS3 version will include the ability to create and share levels. Too bad! Guess PSP owners will have to stick with LittleBigPlanet instead.

Seriously? "How shiny are your balls?" We're not entirely sure that's the best way to go promoting this upcoming PlayStation Network exclusive.Regardless, we have to say Hustle Kings looks quite impressive. Promising "photo-realistic" graphics, up to 256-player online game lobbies, and YouTube uploading, this should be jaw-dropping fun for hardcore fans of shiny balls.

We'd feel sorry for the undead if they weren't constantly trying to eat our brains. Here's yet another game about taking out a horde, nay a nation, of zombies. Dead Nation is the next PlayStation Network-exclusive game from Housemarque, developers of popular twin-sticker, Super Stardust HD. While it reminds us of games like Burn, Zombie, Burn! and Zombie Apocalypse (two other zombie-themed PSN games), we're certain Housemarque will be able to do something unique with this title. Fairly certain. Ish.

  • Latest Mass Effect 2 squad member is Grunt - 'A violent and unpredictable Krogan'

Wait, if Grunt is considered a "violent and unpredictable Krogan," then what would Wrex be? Following the earlier reveal of "deadly assassin" Thane, BioWare has announced the second new character in the Mass Effect 2 squad: Grunt, "a blood-hungry Krogan." (Blood ... hungry? Is that worse than blood-thirsty?). In this announcement, BioWare is really pushing the cause and effect nature of your squad selection: "The success of the mission hinges on the squad recruited and their loyalty to the mission. Shepard's future depends on it." BioWare's Ray Muzyka -- referring to the series very clearly as a "trilogy" –- says, "Building out a diverse and loyal party is one of the features that makes the Mass Effect series quite unique. The characters Commander Shepard recruits are not only pivotal to the storyline, but essential to the player's overall success." So, Grunt: On the one hand, he possesses "unsurpassed physical strength." On the other hand ... he eats blood. It's a tricky balance. %Gallery-70482%

  • Eye of Judgment seen on PSP

    08.18.2009

There's yet another game coming out that will take advantage of the PSP camera beyond Invizimals. SCEE announced Eye of Judgment will make its way to the PSP, and will be playable at GamesCom. Originally a PS3 game, Eye of Judgment allows players to use real trading cards in a dueling game not unlike Yu-Gi-Oh!. The creatures printed on the cards are detected by the camera and rendered on-screen in 3D. While unconfirmed, the PSP version is likely to operate in the same way.We do have a few questions regarding the PSP version of Eye of Judgment. For example, will PSP owners be able to use the same cards from the PS3 version? Will PSP owners be able to compete online against PS3 owners? Hopefully, all will be answered later at GamesCom.
