Samsung updates older Gear watches with handy fitness tools
As focused as Samsung might be on the Galaxy Watch, it still has plenty of affection for its older smartwatches. It's rolling out an update for the Gear S3 and Gear Sport that adds a flurry of welcome features, particularly if you're fitness-minded. Samsung Health updates now support numerous indoor workouts, and you can string together workouts if you're switching between routines at the gym. The Health Widget, meanwhile, now delivers sleep stage info.
Samsung to bring SmartThings control to its Gear smartwatches
During its CES press conference today, Samsung announced that this year, it will bring the SmartThings app to its Gear S3 and Gear Sport smartwatches. In its presentation, the company focused on how it will bring all of its connected devices together to create a seamless ecosystem with simple user controls, and adding the SmartThings app to its latest smartwatch models will be a nice step in that direction.
Samsung's Gear Sport smartwatch hits stores this month for $300
Samsung's latest wearables, the Gear Sport smartwatch and IconX 2018 earbuds, are hitting stores in the US on October 27th. The company announced that pre-orders for both products will begin tomorrow, with pricing set at $300 for the Gear Sport and $200 for the refined IconX. If you recall, Samsung introduced these at IFA 2017 in Berlin at the end of August, but we didn't know specific pricing or availability details until now.
Sports brands are giving wearables another shot at success
Wearables are only as good as the apps they're compatible with. And companies making health-focused products, like smartwatches, fitness bands and even hybrids of these two, are starting to realize that. But in order to have applications that lure people to your platform, whether you're Apple, Samsung or Fitbit, often it's better if you have a hand in developing them. Samsung’s next wearable is the Gear Sport
There has been chatter about a Samsung watch for awhile now, and it looks like the rumors have legs. Android Headlines reports that the company has filed documents with the FCC about a device called the Samsung Gear Sport. Based on the included designs, it appears to be some sort of smartwatch or fitness device.
