Ubisoft has released its earnings for the first six months of fiscal 2012, which ran from April 1, 2012 through September 30, 2012. In that time, the publisher garnered overall initial profits of €192.7 million (about $246.8 million), which is a 21 percent increase over the €158.4 million ($202.9 million) Ubisoft had accrued by this time last year. After deducting research and development costs and SG&A expenses, however, that figure drops to a loss of €32.3 million, or $41.3 million. That loss is less substantial than the €37.1 million loss Ubisoft posted at the end of the first half of fiscal 2011, to the tune of 14.8 percent.Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot attributes the year-over-year increase in gross profits to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (its performance in the digital segment, specifically) and Just Dance 4, while also claiming that the operating loss reported for this period was due to "large-scale marketing campaigns for Assassin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 3."Looking forward, Guillemot predicts a "record" second half for fiscal 2012, based on the anticipated performance of Assassin's Creed 3, Far Cry 3 and Ubisoft's stable of upcoming Wii U titles. As such, the company's year-end target for sales has been increased from a range of €1.16 - €1.20 billion to €1.20 - €1.26 billion. Similarly, Ubi's target range for operating income has been raised slightly, from €70 - €90 million to €70 - €100 million.

PC users have encountered some issues with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. A bug report thread on the Ubisoft forums is cluttered with complaints, ranging from the mundane to the catastrophic. For example, one issue seems to be that the mouse doesn't work. Like, at all.It would appear Ubisoft is aware of the issues. Donna Nicholson, part of the PMS clan, said she's passing the info along to the higher-ups. We've also contacted Ubisoft about the matter, and are currently awaiting a statement.Update: An Ubisoft rep has told Joystiq that the company is "aware of the issues with the PC version" and the company is currently "working aggressively to correct them as soon as possible."[Thanks, Roy.]

It was a quiet week on the UK top ten as Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes served justice at the top spot. The Dark Knight and pals' game is the latest chart-topper from Traveller's Tales' Lego series, with this latest title besting the first Lego Batman from 2008, which premiered in second place. The rest of the top ten is the usual rogues' gallery, with a couple exceptions like Skyrim, which flew up from spot 23 to grab number eight. FIFA Street also re-entered the top ten, climbing from 13 to storm the last spot.Civilization 5: Gods and Kings held court at No. 16 for its debut. We present the UK top ten after the break.

It's a pretty steep drop from top dog to second fiddle in NPD's May tally, apparently. According to a report from Gamasutra, Diablo 3 managed to sell one million physical copies at US retail – a fraction of the 3.5 million in physical and digital sales earned in the first 24 hours.Coming in second and third in May respectively, Max Payne 3 and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier each sold just over 400,000 units.

The UK's All Formats chart has seen very little change over the past three weeks, with Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Rockstar's Max Payne 3 holding tight at first and second, respectively. FIFA 12 also maintained its position in third for a second week, as the stalwart game hasn't left the top ten since its debut last year. Game of Thrones was the only new title to break the top 40 last week, certainly a blessing of the franchise's name more than the quality of the game. Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Rockstar's Max Payne 3 remained bosom buddies atop Chart-Track's UK sales chart for another week. The team of Ghost Recon kept their advantages position on the high ground for a second week, with Payne providing back-up in second. Capcom's love or hate RPG Dragon's Dogma slipped one spot into fourth, with FIFA 12 running up the field from fifth into third. Nihilistic's Resistance: Burning Skies for Vita debuted at the 12 spot. Chart-Track notes the previous handheld Resistance title was Resistance: Retribution for PSP, which failed to crack the top 40. The UK top ten invade after the break.%Gallery-149219%

Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier had the best premiere of the franchise this past week in the UK. Five installments in (the first in 2001), Ghost Recon: Future Soldier saw its best week one sales of the series, but Chart-Track does note the previous game had a staggered release across formats. Max Payne 3 sales dropped 51 percent in its second week, but the pill-popping hero's dive -- like everything dramatic he does -- was done in slow motion, leaving him in second place. Capcom's "love it or hate it" Dragon's Dogma debuted in third. Other new titles this week in the top 40 include Mario Tennis Open and Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock at 11 and 34, respectively. Now, put on a fez, fix that bow-tie and check out the UK top ten after the break. It's what's cool.%Gallery-149219%

  • Ubisoft addresses lack of split-screen co-op in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Living-room soldiers looking to team up with a real-life buddy for some Ghost Recon: Future Soldier couch co-op may be sorely disappointed once they discover that split-screen multiplayer doesn't exist for the game's campaign mode, despite various online retailers (including Ubisoft's own UbiShop) purporting the game's support of that very feature."We've been made aware of the presence of outdated information on UbiShop and several retailer sites stating split screen, cooperative play is available in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier's campaign," Ubisoft forum manager EvilPixieGrr said in an update on the publisher's forums. "We have ensured the information has been updated on the sites affected by this."Luckily for Ubisoft, Future Soldier's actual retail box art does not sing the praises of local campaign co-op. [Thanks, Keith!]

  • Ghost Recon: Future Soldier review: More than just a soldier

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a game that, at first glance, may seem like an advertisement for 'murica's armed forces circa 20XX. "Sign up. You can rock Pantera in the barracks, blow up helicopters and assassinate evil warlords every day," I imagined the end credits might read. But between every clichéd cutscene, showing the four members of Ghost squad swilling beer and talking car engines while they wait for their next mission, are a bounty of excellent gameplay scenarios: VIPs to rescue, things to blow up and stealth missions that require diligent adherence to caution and calculation rather than simply making sure you move slowly and stay out of sight. No two missions in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier are the same, and the diversity in locales and armaments means there's always something new to see – and shoot.
