Today marks the start of Green Man Gaming's annual Green Grogre holiday sale, where the digital games retailer offers hefty discounts on a wide range of games, both recent and not so recent. Highlights of the sale include intergalactic survival horror gem Alien: Isolation at $25, while the terrestrial horror of The Evil Within is priced at $20.39 and sizable strategy hit Total War: Rome 2 Emperor Edition is $14.98. If buying one game at a time seems terribly inefficient, you can choose from either the massive Half-Life Complete Edition compilation or the Tomb Raider Franchise compilation. Both have received 75 percent discounts. The Green Grogre holiday sale is scheduled to run until January 2. Prospective buyers should check the site regularly, as Green Man Gaming plans to add new discounts each day. [Image: Green Man Gaming]

Life as a roguelike protagonist must be bleak - being born into adulthood without experiencing birthday parties, fighting increasingly brutal waves of enemies until their lone-warrior efforts are finally stomped out of existence ... it can't really be fulfilling. Maybe you can spare your Hero from the same fleeting fate in Vertical Drop Heroes HD, a randomly-generated roguelike due for PC and Mac on May 20. Players will have 20 traits, 15 abilities and powers and 16 weapons to arm Heroes with, but anyone overwhelmed by Vertical Drop Heroes' mounting challenge can rope in a teammate via split screen or network-based co-op. What are you fighting for beyond a few more minutes of life for your Hero? The related press release teases the "truth behind the game," which conveniently lays beyond conquering the final boss. Vertical Drop Heroes will cost $5 when it arrives on Good Old Games, Humble Store and Green Man Gaming. It's also currently up for vote on Steam Greenlight. [Image: Nerdook Productions]

While nobody outside of Bethesda Softworks can make The Elder Scrolls Online arrive any faster, the discount mongers at Dealzon are now offering the next best thing: a sizable price break for those willing to purchase the game before its public debut. Pay a visit to Dealzon's listing for The Elder Scrolls Online and you'll find a coupon code that will automatically deduct $12 from the game's standard $60 retail price tag. The one caveat here is that the coupon code only works at UK-based digital retailer Green Man Gaming. If that name seems unfamiliar and frightening to you, don't worry, GMG is quickly earning a solid reputation as one of the preferred online destinations for buying games on the cheap. Additionally, those with deep pockets and a strong desire to pal around with a friendly virtual mudcrab might want to instead purchase The Elder Scrolls Online: Imperial Edition. Dealzon can help there too, as this listing offers a similar 20 percent discount on the expanded, swag-heavy version of the upcoming MMORPG.

Several DLC packs have been issued, adding new maps and modes to the multiplayer side of the game. Crystal Dynamics has said it has no plans to offer single-player DLC.

  • Green Man Gaming exec explains how digital trade-ins work

    by

    01.29.2010

Ever since Green Man Gaming announced its plans for digital trade-ins last week, we've been scratching our heads and spinning the ol' think meat trying to understand how it's gonna work. Lucky for us then that GamesIndustry.biz got a couple of execs from the company to break down how it all functions in a recent interview. Allegedly, the folks at GMG have figured out an algorithm for calculating a game's worth at any given time based on a handful of (unnamed) criteria. "We sit in the middle as a market maker and we always offer a price on the game ... we always allow people to sell it back to us," says CEO Paul Sulyok. As previously announced, the company will offer a percentage of revenue from each re-sold game to publishers -- something the company expects to get prospective partners signed up with the quickness. Suylok even puts a percentage to it, estimating that publishers will see a "194 percent" jump in "additional revenue per SKU" (in Humanspeak, that means for each individual game). Us? We're just happy to finally get some money back for that drunken purchase of Daikatana. [Via BigDownload]

  • UK-based site 'Green Man Gaming' to allow digital trade-ins

    by

    01.22.2010

It seems that the yet-to-launch Green Man Gaming website has figured out a way for consumers to make back some of the money spent on digitally distributed games. According to a press release from earlier today, the company will accept digital trade-ins of used "digitally purchased and downloaded games," though nothing explicit is spelled out in terms of what exactly you'll get for your trade-in. The company's COO (and ex-Play.com head) Gian Luzio claims in the release that publishers will receive "substantial remuneration" from Green Man Gaming (that means money, folks) and the site is planned for a "Q1 2010" launch -- it's said to open up with 400 games and grow to "over 2000" by the end of the year. We've contacted GMG for more info on how this whole thing will work and will update you when we know more. [Via Big Download]
