Take-Two, publisher of infamously violent games such as Grand Theft Auto 3 and Manhunt, has seen better days. Gamasutra reports that a group of Take-Two shareholders -- who own a combined 46% of the company -- wish to remove the current CEO, Paul Eibeler, and shake up the company's board of directors. Take-Two has postponed it's annual meeting from March 23rd to March 29th in order to review the shareholders' requests and come up with alternative solutions. Currently, the main "alternative" is an outright "sale of the Company."Take-Two recently posted a loss for 2006 and its future has been questioned for some time. Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities recently downgraded the company's stock and suggested that Take-Two could eventually be bought and sold in pieces, including its 2K Sports line. With the recent shareholder activity, that prediction could be coming true.Whether or not this could affect the development of GTAIV remains to be seen, though we're curious to see if Take-Two will now shy away from controversial titles, as its financial troubles began with the eruption of the Hot Coffee scandal.Take-Two stocks have already gone up as a result of the rumored sale.

Big news everyone, we're going to be seeing some Grand Theft Auto IV footage in an official trailer set to release on March 29th. GTA IV's official website has been updated with an iconic "IV" logo, with the word "TRAILER" below it and countdown timer. Excitement for the trailer should be high, because we've been a sheltered bunch when it comes to GTA IV goods. Rockstar has kept a lock on any GTA IV related media as we have yet to see any video, any screenshots, or any information other than an October release. As the countdown to March 29th nears, any speculation to how visually the game will compare to its predecessors, or will its success hinge on its gameplay?[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

  • Dissecting Rockstar's formula: Joystiq previews Vice City Stories (PSP) & Bully (PS2)

The headquarters of Rockstar Games, a thin 6-story building squeezed between Best Buy and Adidas, stands just north of where Broadway cuts through Houston Street flowing downward into a mecca of trend -- or shopping for trends -- known as SoHo. A few blocks away Sony has erected one of the world's largest PSP displays (seen here), which towers over the intersection of Lafayette and Houston. But it's not just neighboring downtown-Manhattan real estate that connects Rockstar and Sony.

  • Captain Obvious says GTA IV to have exclusive content on 360

Surely this will come as no shock to Joystiq's highly-intelligent gaming readership, but Microsoft has posted up some news that Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 will feature "exclusive episodic content for Xbox Live." Slated for launch on Oct. 16, 2007, for both the 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, one has to wonder if the PS3 will get the same sort of exclusive treatment through their own snazzy online service. What's funny though, is that in the press release, Microsoft calls this deal a "strategic alliance." As if the console wars really are serious, life-losing conflicts.[Thanks, Alex Belling]

  • GTA4: Girl Theft Auto [update 2]

According to 360Era.com this just might be a screen from Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV (click for an embiggened pic). Hmm, looks about on par with Table Tennis to me. So, is it real? Fake? Frankly, anything with a girl wielding a morning star has my approval. Update 1: It's fake. From Eurogamer: "Rockstar says that an image circulating around web-forums this afternoon, supposedly showing a TV screen running a debug version of Grand Theft Auto IV, is a hoax ... The image ... first showed up in the inboxes of various media organisations this morning under the subject line 'From a disgruntled ex-employee of Rockstar...' ... But that's not the case, Rockstar told us this afternoon. It really is a hoax." Man, fake news travels fast. This screen was circulated and debunked in a matter of hours. Simply amazing. Thanks, Josh. Update 2: It looks like QJ discovered the perpetrator behind this heinous crime. You won't believe who it is. Read the full story here.

  • GTA IV dumps renderware, picks up RAGE

Rumor has it that Grand Theft Auto IV (or GTA4 as the kids call it) will be using Rockstar's RAGE engine (that's Rockstar Advanced Game Engine). Many of you are already familiar with the RAGE engine if you own a copy of Table Tennis. The previous engine, Renderware, is seriously showing its age, and I doubt many will lament its loss. And it doesn't hurt that Table Tennis already looks mighty fine. Is there any chance we might see Tommy Vercetti both pinging and ponging?
