In the last GUN Showdown Feature trailer, I complained that the game didn't seemed to look more like a PS1 title than a PS2. In the newest feature trailer, I have to admit the game's character model do seem to look a bit better. However, I just can't get over the fact developers Rebellion/Neversoft Entertainment seem to be putting too much focus on the character models and the surrounding infrastructure is getting the short end of the stick. The same low-res textures still seem to be present. But if Showdown can capture the same great gameplay that was present in GUN, I'm sure publisher Activision will have a hit on its hands. Showdown is set to ship Oct. 10.

Since yesterday was absolutely ruined with it being International Talk Like A Pirate Day, we ninjas are throwing out a rebuttal. Behold dirty sea-dwellers! Red Steel images! How could you ever turn away the lifestyle of a ninja when it is so clearly stated in these screens that we absolutely pwn? Just look up at guy-with-tattoo-on-head. He is totally getting chopped in half by one of us. If that image doesn't convince you, take a look at any of the other screenshots and you'll see. Ninjas for life. [Via News4Gamers]

  • ULTIMATE Lego Chaingun -- not your parents' rubberband gun

Heck yes. We've been trying to utilize our Lego collection for the production of projectile apparatuses ever since the Pirate sets stopped coming with those flickable cannons. Now it seems our sad attempts have been eternally showed up by Sebastian's ULTIMATE Lego Chaingun, which has 8 barrels, a 64 shot capacity, and an eleven rounds per second firing rate. The rubberband chaingun took over a month to build, and is powered by an honest-to-goodness Lego motor. Sebastian has all sorts of ideas how to mod up his gun even more, including an ammo counter or even faster firing rate, but whatever he manages to do it's clear all we're going to be bringing to our next rubberband fight is a white flag. Keep reading for some hot embedded YouTube action of this thing blasting away.[Via digg]

  • Phat Loot Phriday: Dragonbreath Hand Cannon

Every Friday, we take a nice long look at one of the drool-worthy items floating around the World of Warcraft. Last Friday, we looked at one of the best melee weapons in this game, so this Friday, we'll go HUNTER ITEM! and check out one of the sweetest (and best looking) ranged weapons you can find.Name: Dragonbreath Hand CannonType: Epic GunDamage, Speed: 86-160, 2.80 (43.9 DPS)Abilities: Probably the coolest looking weapon out there. It opens its mouth when it fires! +14 Agility, +7 Stamina. Why no +Fire damage, Blizzard? Yeah, OK, it's not the best ranged weapon in the game, especially if you want +crit% for PVP. But any hunter would love to have this thing, and the stats aren't bad for a tank's ranged slot either. Plus, just look at it! It's a freakin' dragon! Any race/class that can use guns can use this, but don't forget, Dwarves get a +5 to Gun Skill. How to Get It: No quests this week-- all you need is a raid group that can get you into Blackwing Lair and down Ebonroc about thirteen times (just over 8% drop rate, so if you're lucky it'll take less-- if not, it'll take more). Oh, and if you're in a guild, you'll probably need the DKP, especially because the tanks in your group are going to be drooling all over themselves to get their mitts on this. Just yell "Hunter item!"-- that justifies everything. (Can you tell I have a hunter main?)Auction Price: Sorry folks, this one's BOP, too. A vendor will give you 10g, 65s, 74c for it, and as they walk away you'll hear them laughing loudly. At you. For selling them this weapon.

  • Password protect those bullets

We've been loosely following the biometric firearm scene for a couple years now, but this might well be the first time we've heard anything about password protection for your bullets. It's only a patent application as of right yet, but inventor Herbert Meyerle dreams of a day when guns have a system for firing rounds by means of a burst of electromagnetic energy, which could only be activated if a password entered into the handgun matches a password embedded in the cartridge of bullets. If that sounds a little roundabout, that's because it probably is; why fiddle with passwords -- which, once activated, wouldn't prevent your gun from being used against you before the password times out -- when biometric firearm verification makes so much more sense? As soon as you're not holding that gun, it just won't work. Or, you know, you can always hit up the swords to plowshares thing, whatever mode of gun safety does it for ya.[Via New Scientist]

  • Gun Showdown Q & A

Gamespot recently sat down with Activision's Chuck Park to discuss the "port plus" version of Neversoft's ill-received Gun. If you're unfamiliar, the game centers around one Colton White, badass cowboy gunslinger who ends up getting dragged into a conflict greater than he would like in the town of Empire. On both sides of the law, Colton learns of a significant Golden Cross. In addition to 5 new missions and wireless multiplayer, the face buttons have been reworked to allow for aiming with the lack of a second analog stick. The added multiplayer will feature the standard Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, along with an added Last Man Standing and Golden Cross. The Golden Cross multiplayer mode will task the players with gaining control of, and holding on to, the Golden Cross. In all, it seems that Gun Showdown will build on its console cousin with more content and replay value.

  • Nintendo "Zapper Style" shell for Wii Remote

Looks like Nintendo didn't show us everything they're working on for the Wii yesterday. Safely ensconced under glass in Nintendo's booth is this little toy, a prototype "Zapper Style" shell for the Wii Remote. Needless to say, something like this will go a long way to adding some verisimilitude to certain games, or, as the Nintendo brass like to say, it's all about the feeling. Wonder if there's any recoil on this thing?

  • 3 Final Fantasy XIII games; 2 just for PS3

Final Fantasy XII won't be out for the PS2 in the States until October, but we now have a glimpse of Final Fantasy XIII thanks to Square Enix's pre-E3 press event -- and this installment in the series won't be coming alone.Like the different titles in the Compilation of FFVII collection of games and movies, the initially announced installments in the FFXIII universe will span multiple platforms which, in this case, include both the PS3 and sufficiently advanced mobile handsets. Not much is known about the mobile-bound Final Fantasy Agito XIII, but the subtitle-less version of FFXIII will concern a gun-and-sword-toting heroine in a futuristic world, while Final Fantasy Versus XIII will focus on "a spiky-haired character," "extreme action elements," and a primary theme of "bonding" (whatever that means). Anybody ready to "resist the world"?The multiple titles might explain the earlier rumor reported in March that FFXIII was "practically close to being finished" (maybe only one of these games was nearing completion). Whatever the case may be, we're just happy that more than one not-so-Final-Fantasy will be hitting the next PlayStation in relatively rapid succession. RPG feasting: on the way.[Via Joystiq]

  • The pink teddy bear gun

"What we have here 007: an ordinary gun, as you can see. But upon closer inspection -- put that down! Now, as I was saying, upon closer inspection it actually fires small pink teddy bears into the air, which parachute down safely to the earth. What's it for, you say? Why, it's a nascent Japanese wedding tradition of course, taking the place of tossing bouqets of flowers into the air. And would you please return it intact this time, James?"[Via Uber-Review]

This week's titles include the long-awaited Lost Magic, a game that's equal parts role-playing and real-time strategy. Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers has a lot of doubt surrounding it from those wondering if the frenetic action of its console cousins can be accurately transported to the dual-screened brilliance of the DS. As for Top Gun, well...is anyone excited for this game? Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers Lost Magic Top Gun As always, availability subject to manufacturer delivery.
