As baseball players keep bulking up in unnatural ways, we wonder if this extreme version of the sport is what fans want to see; upcoming 2K Sports baseball game, The Bigs, seems to take that pro-girth approach. ("Big" is right there in the title.) Two trailers for this NFL Blitz- and NBA Jam-style baseball title show some of the flashy effects. And maybe we shouldn't connect The Bigs with the current state of baseball; if we want straight simulation, we can play another title. See the trailers and decide for yourself after the break.

An extended Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix trailer for WIi is our video pick for the day. Watch Harry and friends swing their wands around, seemingly in coordination with the Wii Remote. Or so we hope. The game is set for release on eight platforms next month, and like other multiplatform titles, the Wii version is the biggest unknown.See the video after the break.

While the Halo 3 multiplayer beta is trickling its way out to the masses, pass the time while all of your neighbors try to download it simultaneously with the latest from Red vs. Blue. (Oh, who are we kidding? We know you're going to watch the progress counter ratchet up to 100 percent, with the same adoration as if you were reading Hemingway the multiplayer guide.) As the Red vs. Blue guys inch closer to the 100th episode blowout, the latest short shows off some important basics players need to know about the multiplayer beta. Think of it as an orientation initiation into Halo 3. Welcome to the social.See the video after the break.

GameTrailers shows off a few brief Seaman 2 videos, our collective pick for today's video. While not yet announced for release outside of Japan, Seaman 2 taps into the risky, creative side of gaming we laud. Admittedly, those gambles don't always pay off, but when they do, they're why we play games. The videos show a few people playing the game, even Japanese schoolgirls! And while we question the focus-group style of the clips -- the clips could have easily been created by an ad agency and actors -- they give a glimpse into this simian sequel to the previous underwater pet title.See the clips after the break.

Sure, we've covered the Wii60 meme before, but this is too good to pass up; our video pick shows a quirky Wii60 commercial where the consoles -- and their games -- are acted out in a musical montage. Anthony Barrera, Brian Camacho, and Rudolph Rosado, we salute your YouTube prowess.See the video after the break.[Thanks, Ant]

Are you sick of Halo 3 yet? We're not, although it's going to be a fine line to get through these next few days without a Haloverdose. Our video pick for tonight shows Bungie's latest footage from the multiplayer beta, with some snappy editing to keep everything moving. Keep looping the video until the public beta drops on Wednesday, or use this time to go outside. See the footage after the break.

Today's hottest video goes out for all you Halo 3 fans -- at least 5 million, by our counts. Microsoft employee Mr. Jukes, reportedly the most fanatical player in the company, has created a video of his playtime with the internal beta. Bungie has released the video for the world to see. They also remind the fanbase that this beta is a bit older than what will soon be released for mass enjoyment testing. "This was fully sanctioned and approved by Bungie," the developer added, "unlike some of those other 'leaked' videos that have ended up online." Oh, and Jared? Cancel all your weekend plans. You've got some analyzing to do. Video embedded after the break.

How does a 14-second commercial reach YouTube's most viewed Gadget & Games video page for today? When it's about Square Enix, that's how! Square Enix's Party 2007, honoring Final Fantasy's 20th anniversary, is this month. Shown in the video are snippets from at least four different games, including Dragon Quest 9. The announcer, speaking in Japanese, promises "the newest Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest titles." We've heard about quite a few FF games being announced lately, and we're expecting at least a sighting of Kingdom Hearts. The party is May 12 to 13 at the Makuhari Messe; according to the commercial, admission is free. Those interested can find out more information at the party's official page. • Today's most 'behind the lines' video: the making of C&C3's cinematics

    05.09.2007

This is a documentary for Command & Conquer 3 fans or anyone with a penchant for Telecommunication Arts: a four-part documentary on the making of the cinematics for the strategy title.Part one is a discussion with some of the producers concerning the decision to go with real life actors as opposed to, say, CG characters. Part two features interviews with Nod actors Joe Kucan (a very soft-spoken individual unlike his Kane counterpart), Tricia Helfer and Josh Holloway, and GDI actress Jennifer Morrison. Part three continues the interviews with GDI actors Michael Ironside, Billy Dee "don't call me Lando" Williams, John Huck, Shannon Cook and Grace Park. Part four discusses the setting, costume and makeup designs. All with behind-the-scenes footage of the production with green and blue screens very visible. Our favorite line comes from Ironside in part three. Discussing how the actors needed to act to the camera, he said that he had to relate to a range of personality "male, female ranging from 16 to 66 and different mode of dress at different times of day with different forms of food in their hand while they're playing." We're a little confused by Boogie. Is it a singing game? A dancing game with a lip-syncing character? Both? Where are the DDR-style arrows? While we soon anticipate getting some hands-on time with the title for our own opinion and overview, GameTrailers shows the game in action with a developer interview. The possibly-not-Wii-exclusive title is different at the very least. We hope the risk pays off. See the video after the break.%Gallery-2230%

Comparing charging stations to excrement and digitized mushrooms to phalli, this is not your normal grandma. Nay, this is Old Grandma Hardcore, notorious for her biting tongue and predilection for profanity. And this is her giving her opinion of the latest Paper Mario for Nintendo Wii.Video embedded after the break. Given our description of OGHC's diction, it probably goes without saying that this clip is NSFW.

Today's hottest video come care of GameSpot's new footage of Eye of Judgment, a game combining the virtual and real world via the PlayStation Eye. Shown in the video is how the Eye will work with the game. We're excited by the game and its new use of a video camera for interaction, but we're also worried of the nominal fees we'd pay building our super deck. It feels like only yesterday that we retired our Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon collections.Video embedded after the break.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

The fine folks at pabr.org have engineered a Sixaxis controller into a remote for other devices, much like the frenzy of Wiimote hacking. The demonstration shows the controller tilting and rotating a plane, and it earns our nod as the video of the day.We all knew it could be done, but watching the hack in action has a snake-charmer-like affect on us -- and the plane in the video. With the foolingest day of the year behind us, we welcome a trailer for Super Rub 'a' Dub, a game that at first glance looked like a joke. But, no, the game is a real downloadable title for the PS3, and the trailer quickly turned us from skeptical to interested. Players pilot a rubber duck through elaborate pools with the Sixaxis motion controls, herding up smaller ducks in the process. Elements of the game remind us of Lemmings and ChuChu Rocket; we hope the final title lives up to those classics.See the video after the break.

Some of you, the exact number, we're not sure, have a Second Life. Others have a First Life. Today's video pick introduces the Third Life as part of a Kit Kat ad in the Netherlands. Created by UbachsWisbrun/JWT (caution: website resizes your window, plays sound, and otherwise annoys), Kit Kat only loosely ties into the joke. Regardless, the humor scores high with us gamers, and we highly recommend the video.Watch the ad after the break.[Via Adverblog]

  • Today's franchise face-offiest game video: Bauer versus Riker

    03.30.2007

It's Riker versus Bauer in tonight's video pick. (What, you thought we'd post about that other video again?) Through the magic of editing -- and a rocking soundtrack -- these two leaders face off in a game of Street Fighter. Bauer uses his ability to multitask to get Gamefaqs tips, while beardless Riker has only his grimace and guile. This YTMND mash-up loops soon after it starts, but the quick editing is dense with detail; we laughed through several repetitions. The video isn't embedable, so you'll have to venture into the dangerous tubes beyond Joystiq. But be sure to come back to tell us what you think.

    03.28.2007

For tonight's video, we chose the Super Mario Bros. Lego video that's been floating around recently. This stop-motion animation shows Mario as a regular-shaped Lego man; instead of making a video as close to SMB as possible, Mario, mushrooms, enemies, and other items are warped through the Lego lens. There's a place for literal Lego game tributes, but we still like this short. Love those sound effects!See the video after the break.

Some of you wept over Devil May Cry 4's multplatform ambitions, but we welcome the fall of another console-specific franchise. (Well, some of us remember a simpler day.) We've picked this action game's trailer for tonight's video. We tried the game late last year, but rational analysis aside, we're sold on all of Dante's different grunt and attack sounds. Can we get a remix? See the video after the break.

A video showing Foley effects for Dark Sector wins our pick of the day. There's nothing new about using abusing fruits and vegetables to make game sounds, but we still like this demonstration by the action game's sound designers. You'll never look at an orange the same way again.See -- and hear -- the clip after the break.
