  • Halo-ish Hasbro Oozinator comes up big

I'll admit that I had to think for a minute before figuring out how to relate Hasbro's hilarious Oozinator Super-Soaker gun to the Xbox 360. Finally, I decided the bizarrely suggestive goo-shooting weapon, which is available at Toys R Us until some exec somewhere gets a clue,  looks enough like the plasma rifle in Halo to interest Bungie fanatics, especially if you painted it purple. Alright, so it's a stretch. But it would surely make for an explosive addition to the Halo 3 armoury on the Chief's next mission (or emission). Click here, here and here (in that order) for the full jiz...er...gist. Major pumping required.

Those wacky Norwegians are at it again. At the recent fest called 'The Gathering', apparently the liquor & drugs were as plentiful as the shame was scarce, because in front of an auditorium full of people, a dozen gamers took to the stage to give their real-life renditions of the various dances from the different races in WoW. Ever wanted to see a full-grown man doing the female Night Elf dance? Yeah, me neither...

We all figured that Call of Duty 2's multiplayer was broken (at least prior to the patch) but who knew it was Brokeback—in juvenile "pwned" sort of way? I think this "music video" was made using the PC version, but there's no way I could deprive 360 fanboys of such a groundbreaking cultural statement. Given the homoerotic theme, the guy in the flaming truck is a nice touch.

Ok, so it has Tom Cruise in it, which breaks one of my most cardinal rules...but it also happens to be the best Tom Cruise movie since that one all those years ago where he wore a little elf-suit & fought the devil with a unicorn horn. You'll see...

No, it's not exactly a horror movie, but this clip shows just how powerful an entity WoW is, and will teach a valuable lesson to anyone wishing to stand up to it. Aside from that, it's pretty goofy :P

The Onion has published a humorous love letter which makes sense to any WoW player, though it has a poignant side. Sometimes it's hard to understand life without WoW -- just as it's hard to decipher the terminology any Azeroth resident is steeped in -- and relationships bridging the chasm can have their problems.Ever tried to convince your other half to see the setting sun in Southshore rather than go out on the town? If your love life is eerily like this, perhaps it's time to reconsider your priorities. However, I know plenty of couples who play together and find it a good way to spend time together -- perhaps you can get your other half interested, though mine is quite happy not sharing this particular hobby.[Via Joystiq]

  • Quite possibly the best internet skit ever

I love Olde English. Apart from the fact that 40% of the homepage's area is dedicated to images of beer, their funny videos are a perfect blend of student humor and stupidity. Probably the best video on the site is their Gym Class skit, a clever satire of multiplayer first person shooters. Watch as a group of friends proceed to mercilessly shoot each other with imaginary machine guns, rifles and handguns, just like a FPS. Then laugh as the winner claps and says "good game", just like a FPS.If you liked that then check out Hello? Fuck! otherwise known as "waking up with a hangover and trying to find the phone." Before you ridicule me for its lack of relation to gaming hear this! At least two game consoles have some screen time in this video, so as Phoenix Wright would say, "TAKE THAT!"Also, as you've probably already guessed, these videos are NSFW.[Thanks, Greg Gant]

GamerScoreBlog notes that the Xbox 360 headset makes a cameo in this rather forced SNL short about cats that shoot lasers out of their mouths. The concept would  have been funnier with sharks, or at least it was 10 years ago when Austin Powers came out.  Sometimes viral advertising just isn't worth the embarassment.

TUAW commenter guev pointed out a new iPod spoof ad hosted at - where else - YouTube that has a bit of an interesting twist, which I think you can gleam from its name. I need to warn you though: this is certainly NSFW (Not Safe For Work), and you'll need a YouTube account to log in and view it, due to the nature of its content. Here's the link to the iPod-iPorn silhouette ad, complete with Daft Punk soundtrack. All things aside: it's done pretty darn well, though I wonder how long it will actually stick around.

The Armchair Empire has thrown together a list of what they believe to be the top ten in-game quotes. The list ranges from the bizarre (including the title to this post) to the classic ("All Your Base"). A good way to catch up on the last couple of decades of, how shall we put this, memorable lines from video games. My personal choices: "Hehehe! This is gonna be good!" - A Dwarf from Myth II just before he's about to blow up a crowd of Thrall with a molotov cocktail. It doesn't sound like much but if you've ever played Myth II you'll probably agree. "(singing) On the eleventh day of Christmas, Blizzard gave to me: eleven Science Vessels..." - This is a singing science vessel from the StarCraft Map of the Month: The Twelve Days of Starcraft. Random eh? "OBJECTION!!!" - From Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, natch. This isn't any objection in particular, although the times where either Phoenix or the Prosecution objects to the Judge's Guilty/Not Guilty verdict are probably the best. What are you favorite video game quotes?[Via Evil Avatar]

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a weekly column about the future of technology, multimedia, and digital entertainment:"All right! Listen up, maggot! Welcome to Fort Dragg. I am your Commanding Microsoft Office-er Sgt. Pepper! How do you like that for trademark infringement, Apple Corps? I bet you came here today because you wanted to serve your computer company by beta testing Boot Camp? Well, let me tell you something. It ain't gonna be easy, you puke!"Over the next 50 minutes, I will become your father, your mother, your Apple Specialist, your third-tier tech support person, and your best friend! Your heart may belong to Apple but your butt belongs to me! Your precious vendor won't support other operating systems, so you better be quicker than a FireWire 800 port, because if you ain't, you just may blow your disk up with your laser mouse."You come here as a sack of rotting apples unfit to touch a scroll ball! But I will tear down your hard drive into partitions until you cry. You will feel the burn like a driver CD. You will break like compatibility with classic Mac applications. Your identity will be so far gone that Spotlight won't be able to find it. Remember, there is no Windows ME in 'team.' If you can reset your system clock, you will leave with a time-killing, dual-booting, PC game-running machine! Do you hear me!?""Sir! Yes, sir!"

The Omni Group has an Omni Mouth - their new blog, that is. Developers of such fantastic apps as OmniOutliner and OmniGraffle, The Omni Group is joining the ranks of software houses with blogs who want to offer up some insight into being developers, as well as thoughts on the more humorous side of their business. One post dated yesterday presents a statement from their CEO on the ground-breaking Boot Camp announcement and what it means to their app development, while another post transcribes some of the more unusual phrases heard from their support room such as: “Bananaphone," “OMG I’M IN UR BASE KILLING UR DOODZ” and, of course, “There’s a new Strong Bad email.”While it probably won't be the hottest place to find the latest Mac-related news and juicy tidbits (*ahem*), it should be a good blog to add to your newsreader if you're curious about the inner workings of one of Mac OS X's most prominent and well-known developers.

Now this is what I call fair & balanced. You know how, when people sometimes blame the dumbing-down of society on the sensationalism of the modern news media ,apologists always say something like: "well, people have been doing stupid things for thousands of years, and what sort of media were they exposed to?" Well, finally, here is the answer to that question...
