On the official Japanese PlayStation site, "PlayStation 3's New Superstar!", as LittleBigPlanet is dubbed above, was given a release date of October 30th and a price of 5980 yen ($57 USD). No word yet on a US or PAL release date. Let's hope it's before the Japanese date, considering the game is developed by the UK based Media Molecule.[Via videogaming247]%Gallery-3199%

  • Sackboy knight rescues his princess in LittleBigPlanet trailer

Sackboy wants to be a hero. In this infuriatingly cute trailer (yes, we're so bombarded by cuteness we're angry) you see the regular sackboy dreaming about becoming a knight rescuing his princess. It's another trailer showing how free you are to create your worlds and this is another success in our eyes, even if sackboy doesn't get his kiss. It's also got a great musical number going on in the background. October cannot arrive soon enough!

  • Don't Panic! Stephen Fry provides LittleBigPlanet narration

Don't panic, but famed British comedian and noted Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy voice (he's done the audio books and narrated the movie) Stephen Fry will provide narration for LittleBigPlanet. Media Molecule's Alex Evans made the announcement during a press briefing for the game, although he had the TV muted at the time. Seems fitting for when we make our whole sort of general mishmash.

Here's another gameplay video of LittleBigPlanet. Pull up your favorite song to play alongside the video, since this footage decided to leave out any audio. It's possible there was a lot of background noise going on, so if that's the case, we're grateful for the silence. We're always impressed by the level designs that keep popping up and this video is no exception. Hopefully, you all agree!

We admit it -- we developed a crush on Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet from the first time we laid eyes on its texture-rich world. Ever since its GDC '07 unveiling, we've been fiending for more information on this Go! Team-infused gem -- yesterday's Sony Gamers' Day did not disappoint in that respect, bringing us three new LBP video previews (look for our writeup from the event soon). The video above features the game's PlayStation Eye functionality, the other two (embedded after the break) feature some nuances of the character creation system and the recently revealed "danger" system. It will be ours. Oh yes, it will be ours.

  • LittleBigPlanet slated for October

Well, that didn't work. Tearing out the May, June, July, August and September pages from our official 2008 Sackboy Calendar has utterly failed to bring us any closer to LittleBigPlanet's newly announced "October" release date. Speaking at Sony's PlayStation Day 2008 event in London, Sony bigwig Kaz Hirai confirmed that the burlap-bouncing, community-powered platformer would be gracing PlayStation 3 systems in that month when people dress up as pirates and vampires. Provided it doesn't slip again, LittleBigPlanet is going to make for quite the treat.

The sack people are back! It's been a while since we saw our cute, unofficial Sony mascots playing around in their sandbox of a world, so here we are with a new video of just that. There's some new stuff in here, but it's predominantly footage we've seen. The level design at the one-minute mark is especially awesome. We do get a nice bit of narrative from the developers behind the game, but it only further enhances our desire to get this game in our hands. Hopefully they'll stick to their September release date!

  • Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 get release window in UK

VideoGamer.com appears to have gotten hold of a Sony UK release schedule for upcoming Sony games, giving us a better idea of when we'll see some of the PS3's biggest titles. According to the release, Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet will arrive at some point in September, with Resistance 2 following close behind in November. Sony has confirmed the dates, saying that the info has been "in the public domain for a while now."The last time we heard that September date being batted around for LBP, it was an unofficial source, so it's nice to get it confirmed. Now, what we don't know is specific dates or how the dates of Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 will stack up with their North American counterparts, but we wouldn't count on them being released much later stateside, promising a very happy autumn for PS3 owners.

  • LittleBigPlanet will not intimidate users, says Sony

There's a fairly lengthy interview over at GameTap where Sony's senior producer, Pete Smith, speaks up about the hugely ambitious LittleBigPlanet. While we'd love to cover the whole Q&A session, we're just going to give you a glimpse of what's discussed. For example, the concept of the game was brought to Sony when Media Molecule had a total of three members on the development team. Of course, the game has changed drastically since then, but tapping into user-generated content has always been their vision. The game keeps it's 2D structure primarily to deter users from feeling intimidated. It's much easier to work with a 2D world, anyway. The intense physics engine helps keep things fresh and prevents the game from becoming just a 2D platformer. Keeping things approachable and keeping the single-player experience fun and satisfying are also keys to success. While some levels can be designed with teamwork in mind, if it's not fun alone, it probably won't work online. There's plenty more to read up on, so check out the whole interview. We're just excited to hear anything about this glorious sounding game.

  • Sony confirms LittleBigPlanet's planned September release

Sony has confirmed to CVG today that LittleBigPlanet is planned for a September release. Don't feel too down, though. We were supposed to be seeing a beta occuring before the end of 2007 and while there's no news on when that's coming, it should be during the first half of the year. Hopefully. We're in two minds about this. Currently our philosophy is to assume any high profile game will get at least one delay before release. Just look at Metal Gear Solid 4. Does that mean we should expect LBP to land around Christmas (or, yikes, 2009?) or have the team now given themselves the time they need to get the game done by September? We're hoping for the latter. Bring on the beta!More videos of the game, after the cut.[Via Digg]

Or in this case, its foliage creator. Embedded after the break you'll find a brief CES video demonstration of the PS3's perpetually praised LittleBigPlanet, depicting the elegant interface used to give form to your platforming designs. Though we're already envisioning a deadly sequence of precarious, single-pixel steps suspended above a pit of eternal hellfire in our level, you're perfectly welcome to make a happy little tree and call it a day.In the interest of being informative, we'll remind you that LittleBigPlanet is only expected to arrive in September. We are not happy about it.

  • Watch the VGA's Little Big Planet trailer

We gave this new trailer for Little Big Planet a hard time during last night's VGA liveblog, only because it seems like a really bad way to introduce the game to mainstream audiences. The game's premise (what little we know of it) is pretty complicated, so it might have been smarter to feature a trailer that included a little more explanation, just so Johnny Halofan could get the concept. That said, if you're already familiar with the game, the new trailer is a confirmed magical treat. Not only is it full of whimsy (a plus) but we're also finally given some idea of the extent to which LBP can be used to generate pirate-related scenarios, the true watermark for all entertainment software. The answer seems to be a resounding "Win ho!"[Via PS3F]

  • Reggie Fils-Aime thinks LittleBigPlanet is on the wrong console

Reggie Fils-Aime, one of the heads of the hydra at Nintendo (figuratively speaking ... or are we?), was recently asked which titles he was jealous weren't on the Wii. Without hesitation, Fils-Aime barked out: "I've been very intrigued with Little Big Planet (from Sony). I don't know that it belongs on their platform." He then said Nintendo would like the first person shooters from Microsoft like Halo and Bioshock. But he never said those didn't belong on the 360.Now, color us crazy, but is Fils-Aime implying that LittleBigPlanet would serve audiences better on the Wii? He does realize the graphics would get a pretty noticeable downgrade and that there needs to be a very open, accessible, and powerful online platform behind the game, right? No? Oh well. Sure, it may seem like it fits in with the casual crowd more, but the casual crowd also wouldn't build a level and upload it for their friends to play. What do you guys think? Is the PS3 the right platform for LittleBigPlanet or not?

  • LittleBigPlanet: creating cute creatures video

Is there anything more adorable than LittleBigPlanet? On the PS3, we don't think there is. This latest video shows off the room where you create your potato-sack-like persona, as well as the intuitive interface to customize the critter to almost no end. Though, we hope the final game has more than this one song which we've heard time and again. No matter, that's the least of our worries as everything else oozes adorable, which is slightly orange and smells faintly of chamomile. Enjoy the video and curse in anger as you realize this game is still quite a few months off.

  • LBP taunts us with Mario Sack Boy concept art

We're more than just a tad bit envious over LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule's ultra-cute, ultra-customizable platformer for the PS3; ever since the title was announced at GDC, we've been downright jealous. Videos of the game's cooperative possibilities have turned us into internet stalkers, following every online preview and press release in secret, constantly reloading LBP's MySpace page every five minutes to make sure that other guys aren't moving into our territory with flirtatious comments. So seeing that players will not only be able to create landscapes that mimic scenes from classic games (e.g. Super Mario Bros., World 1-2), but likely also dress up their characters to look like Nintendo's mustachioed mascot has inflamed within us the sort of covetous lust that Moses warned against after coming down from the mount. The Virtual Console has been a great way for us to play old classics, but seeing Sony's plans for its PlayStation Network and comparing it to what we've heard so far about original, downloadable games coming to the Wii has us feeling like chumps. [Thanks Elmer!]

Who couldn't fall in love with the cutesy antics of stitched-up ragdolls running around a strange, side-scrolling 3-D world of their own design? We know we have and there's good reason and more proof -- just check out the gallery we've scored for LittleBigPlanet. While we aren't exactly allowed to have any shots of Home go up, let us say that LBP is a fantastic addition to an online experience that is most certainly going to change how people view consoles forever. Are we exaggerating? Let's hope not. We'll see all of you on this game once Home hits in October. We might have some level design contests, too ... Until then, check out a video after the cut.%Gallery-3199%
