  • Sony restricts stereoscopic PS3 games to 720p 3D

Sorry, fellow gamers, we're out of luck if we want to play stereoscopic PS3 titles in their full high definition glory -- Joystiq reports that Sony guidelines won't allow for 1080p 3D. As we discovered in April, the goal is to run even native 1080p content at a lower 720p resolution when splitting the image in twain, allowing enough processing overhead for a smooth 60fps framerate and likely reducing eyestrain. Mind you, it's not like there are many occasions when you'd have cause to complain -- even in two dimensions, native 1080p titles on modern consoles are few and far between. Exempt from the specification are 3D Blu-ray movies, which run at a slower (but larger) 1080p24 by default, so rest assured that when you're being tortured with Clash of the Titans repeat viewings, you'll see every glorious detail.

  • Worms Reloaded beta going worldwide on Monday

News from the Steam Community tells us that Worms Reloaded, that new "extended" version of the old game in which sentient invertebrates do battle with rockets and/or sheep, is moving up to a worldwide beta. Previously, the game was only available for testing in Europe, but it's opening it up globally on Monday, so children of all nations will be able to throw airstrikes and ninja ropes at each other then. The only catch? You need a key, and they've only got a few. So you'll just have to hope you come up when they spin the random numbers around. We do know that you have to be a member of the official group, so sign in over there right now ... and then begins the waiting game. [via LA Examiner]

  • Tales of Vesperia special edition has many tales to tell

Tales fans likely don't need extra incentive to secure a pre-order for Tales of Vesperia; the only question that remains is if they're happy with the regular version or want to pony up the extra gald for something shinier. Besides being wrapped in metal and artwork by series character designer Kosuke Fujishima, the $69.99 Tales of Vesperia special edition will also include a soundtrack CD celebrating a decade of console role-playing. While specifics haven't been revealed, Namco Bandai notes that of the 25 songs included on the disc, a hefty 14 will be pulled from Vesperia, with the remainder coming from Tales of Symphonia (4), Tales of the Abyss (3), Tales of Phantasia (2) and Tales of Destiny (2). However, as much as we enjoy our ears, this limited offering is a step back from the Big Daddies and cat helmets we're used to, though we doubt that will stop fans from switching their pre-orders over in the run up to the game's August 26 release. This is simply the coolest limited-edition box in recent memory. Forget the European Resident Evil 4 box. This Japanese Biohazard box is the business. For 3,675 yen, which is a suspiciously low $30, you get an awesome 20-DVD-capacity Umbrella Corporation biohazard storage box (itself inside an Umbrella Corporation shipping box), two keys, warning tags, and caution tape to seal it up. With a case this cool, who even needs a game? You could always buy this and RE4 Wii Edition and build your own limited edition set.[Via The Tanooki]

  • Subtle limited-edition DS Lite from Hudson

Hudson's Momotaro Dentetsu series of video board games (think Mario Party) has always been popular in Japan. It's so popular, in fact, that it justifies limited-edition hardware. That's a little unsettling, to us. It's hugely popular, but has never been released outside of Japan. Of course, Japan needs limited-edition DS Lites-- and all DS Lites, more than we do. Maybe this will add to the total supply. This DS Lite comes packaged with Momotaro Dentetsu DS Tokyo & Japan, and features very small character portraits and the series title on the top of the system. It's a very restrained approach to the special edition system, which contrasts to the recent BeDazzling approach. Check after the break for a closeup of the system!

  • Samsung to release yellow Simpsons Movie phone

We've heard of releasing lappies and cameras based on major motion pictures, and we've certainly heard of getting films on your phone, but Samsung is partnering with 20th Century Fox to unveil a limited edition, yellow handset to commemorate The Simpsons Movie. Having potential to reach a cult-like status in the geek / cartoon kingdom, this still-mysterious phone doesn't yet have a fleshed-out spec list (nor a finalized design, apparently), but we do know that it'll be yellow in color, have a special Simpson's logo, and come "pre-loaded with exclusive The Simpsons Movie content." While we aren't expecting anything special out of the phone itself, we'll be interested to see the eBay value of these bananas come July of this year, and hopefully by then we'll know a good bit more about the minutiae. • PCN readying colorful line of PlayStation 3s

We all know how difficult (and hazardous) it was to locate an oh-so-coveted PlayStation 3 during the launch mayhem, and while things have calmed down somewhat, just happening upon Sony's latest console isn't likely for quite some time. If you're dead set on forking out $eBay for a fresh new PS3, you might as well get something that hardly anyone else has, right? The same folks who delivered that snow white PS3 console just a few days back have quickly realized the goldmine they've struck, and as Colorware is to iPods, MacBooks, etc., PCN is becoming to PlayStation 3s. The paint-wielding gurus are already gearing up to post a shiny red unit up for sale in the coming days, with a silver edition to follow suit, and while we can't be for certain, it seems they just might keep kicking out colored PS3s until the lucrative market dies down. So if you're interested in picking up one of these uber-limited units, be sure to hit the read link and keep an eye out for sale dates.[Via Engadget Japanese]

  • Pentax unveils shiny LX Gold SLR to celebrate 60 years

What better to snap oodles of pictures at your Thanksgiving feast than with a gravy-proof (and gold-plated) SLR? Taking a note from the bevy of other Midas-touched gizmos out there, the Asahi Pentax LX Gold sports a thoroughly blinding paint job with faux-alligator accents to add an extra layer of tacky to an already gaudy device. Apparently aiming to bring back a taste of 1981 (when the 10 millionth Pentax SLR rolled off the production line; pictured after the jump), the company is seemingly reintroducing the vivid shooter to celebrate 60 years of staying afloat. Of course, we aren't sure how many of these splendiferous units will be offered up (or wanted at all), but we're sure it'll rock quite a premium for those somehow interested.

You have $500 to waste, right? Well, someone did, and they took extensive photos of the Kachofugetsu Signature PSP. To be honest, it looks absolutely gorgeous. Mere mortals like ourselves will most likely never get a chance to see this system in real life, so make sure you check out the pics after the cut. It's the closest we'll ever get to the beauty.[Via PSP-Vault]

Going on sale at the Pokemon Center in Japan on September the 28th to commemorate the release of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, we have to say this looks much better than the limited edition Winning Eleven DS Lite. Heck, it looks better than the last limited edition Pokemon DS Lite as well. The price weighs in at 16, 800 yen, or around $143 US. A closer look at the graphic can be seen after the break.
