It just wouldn't be the release of an ultra-hyped AAA game without some adorable little Sackboy cross-promotion costumes, so obviously BioShock Infinite outfits will be heading to LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet Karting and LittleBigPlanet Vita tomorrow. As seen above, the pack includes Infinite's heroes Elizabeth and Booker, as well as a few of the game's less savory characters. Each costume is priced $1.99, while the party of five comes in at $5.99.

The content, which is already available, will allow you to outfit your little karters with costumes from other titles in the LittleBigPlanet universe. Furthermore, as promised many cardboard moons ago, costume purchases made in any LittleBigPlanet game will automatically unlock across all other LittleBigPlanet games (even on LittleBigPlanet Vita). If only dress-up in real life was this easy.

You may think a bunch of puppets in go karts doesn't have any narrative significance but this LittleBigPlanet Karting trailer proves there's a real conflict fueling this racing game.

Apparently, after the events of LittleBigPlanet 2, mysterious beings from far away lands arrived on Craftworld and began hoarding all of the world's most valuable treasures, with no other motivation than to be in possession of them. Somehow, this all translates to go-kart racing.

  • LittleBigPlanet Karting pre-orders at Gamestop include 'Headstart Pack,' exclusive Sackboy and kart

We caught wind a while ago that pre-ordering LittleBigPlanet Karting from Gamestop or Amazon would net you a sweet Kevin Butler Sackboy and golf-cart kart, but now Gamestop's pre-order offering has been upgraded with some extra chotchkies. For starters, Gamestop pre-orders now come with an exclusive "Headstart Pack" that immediately unlocks 900-plus pieces of construction materials, costumes, karts and music that would normally have to be earned by, you know, playing the game. It also includes a United Front Games-themed Sackboy and accompanying arcade cabinet kart (as seen above), as well as the Kevin Butler stuff we already knew about.

  • Most LittleBigPlanet costume DLC to become cross-platform, only require one purchase

Most costumes purchased for use in LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 will not only be compatible with LittleBigPlanet Vita and LittleBigPlanet Karting, but users will be able to transfer the DLC for freezies, in both directions. This means that purchasing a costume once will grant the use of those threads in all four games. Not all costumes will be available cross-platform at launch, and neither Assassin's Creed costumes nor the April Fools Fragrance costume will be available on Karting, but the rest of the DLC will eventually come to all four games.Since dressing Sackboy up as a Disney princess or indie darling is very nearly as much fun as actually playing a LittleBigPlanet game, we'd imagine this news would be music to the ears of anyone whose nights are filled with costume changes, accessorizing and Ben & Jerry's. Not that we would have any personal, first-hand knowledge of that sort of thing. Nope.

Sony's San Diego Studio recently held a game jam to do some hardcore testing on the Create tools for the upcoming LittleBigPlanet Karting, and apparently it went pretty well because the studio has announced the game's going into beta soon. The beta test for the title will start next Tuesday, July 10, and then go through the end of the month. You can read some impressions from the game jam over on the forums, including some breathless (we imagine) excitement from the game's fans and players on how the title worked and what they made. Codes will go out soon to selected players, and the game itself is due out later on this year.

LittleBigPlanet Karting is accepting beta applications right this very moment. If you're interested in a PS3 Sackboy-Mario Kart-style mash-up, sign up through the PSN Beta page.Sony of course warns that not everyone will qualify for the beta, but we assume the question "Do you own a PS3?" may be one with a correct answer, while "Which of the following games have you played before?" may be more lenient.

    03.22.2012

After briefly hearing about LittleBigPlanet Karting in early February, Sony decided to share some new details this morning on the upcoming adorable kart racer. United Front Games is handling production duties – which makes sense given the developer's track record with ModNation Racers – and the team promises the same level of dedication and attention to detail that Media Molecule lavishes on its main franchise LBP titles.Like those main titles, LBP Karting will support a full creation system, which allows players to craft new levels, racers, and even "to modify the rules of the game itself to create completely new modes and challenges," according to UFG senior producer James Grieve. He also says that some form of "community experience" will be included, though he stops short of saying whether LBP.me will play some part in that experience. When we first heard about LBP Karting, the game was said to feature PlayStation Move functionality as well, a la Mario Kart for Wii. However, neither Sony nor United Front Games mentions as much in this announcement. What we do know for sure is this: LittleBigPlanet Karting will launch at some point in 2012 on the PlayStation 3.%Gallery-151249%

Sony has confirmed development of LittleBigPlanet Karting. The news comes via a tweet from Sony's PlayStation account, which states quite simply the game is in development and that the publisher hopes to share more information "soon."Reports were circulating earlier this week -- though they have since been pulled -- that the game would feature PlayStation Move support and a Move racing wheel peripheral, perhaps in the style of Nintendo's massively successful Mario Kart Wii.Whatever becomes of the final product, the existence of LittleBigPlanet Karting is an interesting development considering that Sony already has a flagship kart racer, Modnation Racers (pictured).
