  • Second Lost: Via Domus trailer is riddled with subliminal messages

After being reunited with our dear friends from Oceanic Flight 815 this past Thursday, we're suffering from a pretty severe reoccurance of Lost fever -- luckily, this new trailer came along just in time to satiate our hunger for tropical island adventures. The game looks gorgeous, and seems to be very faithful to the show, apart from a few characters who are not voiced by the actors who played them in the show -- the most jarring of these being John Locke, who sounds like a slightly bewildered Steven Seagal throughout this trailer.Of course, every good Lost fan knows to look out for branded sharks and hidden messages -- which this one-and-a-half minute trailer has plenty of. We'll leave it to you to find these single-frame clues. What do you think -- is there some significance to these blips, or is this just another four-toed statue?

  • Lost: Via Domus trailer: um, what?

So, a trailer for Lost: Via Domus was released. We watched it and we have no idea what's going on. Sure, the basic premise is easy enough to grasp. People crash land on a deserted island and have to survive. That's easy enough. There's this guy that appears to be the main character. There's some kind of shady conspiracy thing heppening too. Oh, and the lead character gets punched or otherwise beaten a lot. So far, that's about all we can understand. We may just have to catch up on the series now that it's on Xbox Live Marketplace because, honestly, we'd hate to admit we were having trouble following the plot in a video game.

  • Confusion sets in as LOST arrives on XBVM

Just an overly friendly reminder that seasons one through three (including pilot episode goodness) of ABC's LOST have officially made their Video Marketplace debut in the United States. Each confusing as all hell episode will set purchasers back 160 Microsoft points for SD and 240 points for the HD flavor. We've also been told that episodes of the fourth season of LOST will hit the XBVM within' 24 hours of their airing (just as we've come to expect), so keep an eye out for new episodes to be downloadable starting tomorrow. So, can anyone explain to us what the hatch door is all about?

Looking for all that ABC and MGM HD content on Xbox Live? You won't have to wait long, with the first three seasons of Lost up now plus the just-aired season 4 premiere (Hurley was all ZOMG!, and Benry was like Bu-bu-but...) available for purchase at 12:01 a.m. PST for 240 MS points ($3 U.S.) per episode -- just barely missing the original "later this month" promise. Due later on in February are hits like the High School Musical series and other content from the Disney Channel, and MGM's releases hit on the 18th. Mr. Brooks, the Rocky series, The Usual Suspects, Saw IV, and Michael Clayton are all coming soon in HD (if you want to call it that). Looks like someone's gearing up to take on the Apple TV, how about a price cut, or loosening up on the DRM?

Just in case you – the loner, who refused to get "caught up" in Lost hysteria – feel left out while everyone (everyone who still cares that is) watches the season opener of the popular cliffhanger-fest, Microsoft has announced that their deal with ABC Television and MGM (first announced at CES) is finally coming to fruition. Part of that deal is ... wait for it ... high-def Lost episodes on Xbox Live Video Marketplace. You can nab the first three seasons now – at 160MS points for SD, 240 for HD ($2 and $3 respectively) – or get the first episode of season four tomorrow (or at abc.com for free if you prefer).Other ABC shows like Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives are being added, along with Disney Channel programming like Hannah Montana (you know, for kids). Those MGM movies are being added beginning February 18th, including the complete Rocky series, some James Bond pics, and Mr. Brooks. Most notable, perhaps, is this month's addition of King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, the well received documentary about two arcade champs.

Over the last few years, the favorite show of many of our readers -- except for those who think its jumped the Dharma shark -- has been Lost. Tonight it's back, after numerous delays and last night's mind numbing re-air of the season finale, "enhanced" with pop ups for those (all) of us who have entirely forgotten why anyone cares about this island (Hint: It's the Other's fashion sense). If you still need a rundown of the upcoming half-season before the show starts at 8 p.m., check out Variety's review, or more info at TV Squad, albeit with a few spoilerish hints mixed in.Read - Six reasons to look forward to season four of LostRead - Lost Review

This is an unbelievable deal. We're not going to beat around the bush, but getting one of the best shows on TV in high-definition for $40 isn't something to snub your nose at. Seriously -- if you can deny buying a show you enjoy (assuming you enjoy it) at a 59% discount, you've definitely got some penny-pinching issues to iron out. Whether it's a mistype on Amazon's part or simply an amazing deal, take advantage while you can![Via Slickdeals.net]

Anyone who has stared into the pitch-black eye of madness known as the Fox News Network's "coverage" of Mass Effect and its "Luke Skywalker meets 'Debbie Does Dallas'" gameplay, is probably now familiar with psychology specialist Cooper Lawrence, who laughingly admitted on the show that she had never played Mass Effect, but still assured the program's viewers of the game's vicious, child corrupting qualities. We imagine the chuckles came to an abrupt end when Lawrence checked the Amazon ratings of her newest book, "The Cult of Perfection: Making Peace With Your Inner Overachiever," whose middling review had been torn asunder by incensed gamers -- many of whom took the time to mention that they had never actually read the book, but hated it anyways. Amazon recently took down these negative reviews -- a shame, as we're sure they'd provide more entertainment than the actual book ever could.Lawrence has since apologized in a New York Times article, claiming she was misinformed about the game, and that she's "seen episodes of 'Lost' that are more sexually explicit." Nice work, Lawrence. You might have settled things with the gaming community, but now you've pissed off the DHARMA Initiative, who are capable of doing much more than just downvoting self-help literature.Update: X-Play's Adam Sessler recently spoke his mind about the "Mass Stupidity" debacle -- his video comments can be viewed (and enjoyed) after the jump.

  • Lost: Via Domus gameplay trailer lacks ... music?

Who doesn't love Lost? Well, after season 2, a lot of people turned away from the show. Season 3, after about the midway point, really picked up some steam and began to draw back some of the love felt in the first season of the show. Why does that matter? The Lost video game, Lost: Via Domus, takes place across the first three seasons of the show. This trailer shows basically what you've seen time and again in the show, reproduced in rather unfortunate quality. We're not hating -- for fans of the show this will probably prove a worthwhile rent, but for those expecting to get floored, you should look elsewhere. This is a TV show game, after all.

There's something eerily familiar about watching this gameplay footage for Lost: Via Domus. Maybe it's Charlie running past your character on the plane, the subsequent crash, the tail that almost crushes Hurley. From the good digitization of Ben to the bad digitization of bearded Mr Friendly, the video brings about a good sense of déjà vu. It even shows all the essential gameplay needed for a game about Lost -- talking, running and typing numbers! Oh yeah, there's also photography and holding a gun menacingly, but really ... it's all about the numbers. Video, with requisite flashback (or is it flash-forward?), after the break.

TV's Lost piqued the interest of a lot of folk upon its initial airing a few years ago, even this blogger. But, as the series went on and things just got too ridiculous, this blogger found himself giving up on the whole thing. That doesn't mean the folks behind the show have done the same, however, as they plan to bring the property to gamers come the end of February.Initially planned as a PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 title, hope for Wii gamers who want to follow the castaways comes in the form of Gadi Pollack, the game's producer. "It's very possible yes..." he stated, adding "we could do it in the near future." So, all of you Lostaholics out there might want to keep your fingers crossed on this one.

It's been nearly eight months since the last new episode of "Lost" aired. Eight months to whip up conspiracy theories, play some alternate reality games, and go to "Lost" fan conventions in full Hurley cosplay regalia. Now that we're within two weeks of the season four premiere, MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo has the scoop on Ubisoft's Lost: Via Domus to slake the last bit of our eight month thirst for tropical island mysteries. We already knew you were going to be playing as a new character to the series, an amnesiatic photojournalist named Frank West Elliott. However, we weren't quite sure of the level of interactivity you would have with the show's plotline and characters (many of whom are voiced by the actors who play them on the show). After Totilo's brief time with the game, he assures his readers that there will be many opportunities to view actual events from the show from a different angle, like the initial plane crash, or the untimely detonation of Arzt (we hope). If being chased around an island by sentient clouds of smoke is your idea of a good time, Lost: Via Domus drops on Feb. 26 for the PC, PS3, and 360. If not, be patient. We're sure they'll make a video game adaptation of "Sex and the City" soon enough.

At CES today, Microsoft announced an expansion of its Xbox Live video offerings. ABC Television and MGM will both offer HD videos on the Marketplace. Coincidentally, these studios are exclusively aligned to Blu-ray. This agreement gives Xbox owners a chance to experience this content in HD as well.ABC Television Network, ABC Family, ABC News, Disney Channel and Toon Disney are all part of this new offering. More than 500 hours of content, in both standard definition and high definition, will be offered including ABC Television shows Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives. Past and current shows will be offered, as will archived ABC News broadcasts.MGM will offer a wide variety of movies, from the Rocky series to Dances with Wolves. Movies across all demographics will be available, including Terminator, Silence of the Lambs, Legally Blonde, Barbershop and Agent Cody Banks. Platoon, Rain Man and The Usual Suspects will also be available.Price and an exact launch date of this newly announced content have yet to be revealed. HD DVD may have gotten a serious death blow this week, but it appears Microsoft's on-demand offerings should more than satiate the HD film appetite of the Xbox fan.

  • The writers strike is in full effect

In case you haven't noticed, most of the best HD shows are in reruns. December is usually a month of reruns, but we've already seen an alternative season finale to Heroes, and in January when we'd normally expect to see our favorite shows come back, you can expect to see more reruns and more reality TV. There are some of our favorites that have some episodes left, like eight episodes of Lost, nine episodes of Medium, ten episodes of Battlestar Galatica, and seven episodes of Jerico. But others like the Office, Heroes, and Big Bang Theory are already out. Hopefully, the writers will get compensation for downloads before the remaining shows run out, and if not at least we'll have more time to watch all those HD DVD and Blu-ray discs.[Via ZatzNotFunny]

  • Cinemassively: "Lost" island lost in Second Life

In June 2007, several members of the SL-LOST group decided that they would recreate the island from the hit tv show, Lost. They wanted a place where fans could gather and discuss episodes. At the end of October 2007, with just over half of the project building complete, the owner of the island just disappeared. The land was then reclaimed. Almost a full month later, group members and builders were allowed access to the island for only 24 hours to gather their things. This video was made on that sad day.I'm going to ignore the fact that this was clearly filmed in mouselook, with black bars put up to hide the UI. This story just moves me for some reason. Filmed in the gorgeous backdrop of Windlight, you can see the loving detail that they put into their creation. They were obviously a tight-knit group, with 277 members strong. At the end of November, they held a meeting to decide whether to rebuild, though it seems that they've found new headquarters since then. If you'd like to help them out or get more details, please visit the SL-LOST website.

  • Submerged camera holds functional memory card two years after accident

After capsizing in the partially frozen waters at Kejimkujik National Park, the Collins family was far too busy being alive to worry over a silly sunken camera. As fate would have it, the ole Canon Powershot that was lost eventually turned up, as a park maintenance worker managed to spot the device sitting aimlessly upon a rock. Granted, the body was in fairly deplorable shape after braving the elements for two solid years, but the memory card tucked within seemed to be relatively unharmed. Upon testing it out, the employee found some 300 pictures taken on the day in which Mr. & Mrs. Collins nearly perished, and apparently, the card was still in tact enough to be read. Eventually, the couple managed to pick up the camera / card and bring home those slightly eerie memories, but no one ever found the loner who snapped up the couple's misplaced cellphone and ran up calls to Zimbabwe 'til the battery died.[Via FarEastGizmos]

  • The writers' strike effect on HD programming

    11.06.2007

The ability for a group to go on strike is a fundamental right in American, and while we don't really understand what the problem is -- we'd assume the writers want more money -- we do know we're going to miss out on some HD programming. The first shows to feel the pinch are the live shows like Leno and SNL, next up is the scripted shows which mostly seem to have about 9 episodes under their belt. Luckily some HD programming is resilient like sports and reality TV -- not that there's much HD. At this point it's hard to know how long the strike will last, but if it lasts more than a few months, at least we'll finally be able to catch up on all those HD movies we've been meaning to watch. Here's a short list of our favorite shows that will go into reruns if this thing doesn't end before too long.Heroes - Seasons will end early on Dec 3rd Lost - Expected to have eight out of 16 episodes ready. Medium - Will have 9 of 22 episodes completed. Battlestar Galactica - Has 10 hours of episodes, plus a two hour movie to air this Fall.

Are you guys still here? Oh right, you are, because it's now our second day here on Massively, and yet our 24 hours of Tabula Rasa contests roll on.Did you know that Tabula Rasa isn't just a game? Oh no, it's a whole thesis (Latin: Blank Slate), and it means that humans are born with no innate knowledge, and that everything we know and think, we receive from the world we grow up in. Heavy. Also, it's the title of a great Lost episode (the one with the first Kate flashback), and so I took that fact as an excuse to post a picture of Evangeline Lilly. Hi, Kate!Anyway, contest! This one's good -- we're giving away an NCsoft digital voice recorder (whoah, just like Ben uses to contact Juliet on Lost! It all fits!), a poster, and another one of our ever popular oversized game boxes. To enter, put a comment on this post (and be in the US and 18 or older -- official rules here) and tell us who your favorite Lost character is.Make sure to comment before 1AM EST, though, because right about then, we'll have another non-Lost related contest. Thanks for visiting Massively!

  • G4 gets LOST, network execs miss obvious joke

Crashing down any hopes that G4 might turn itself around and work at producing quality video game and tech television, the network spent big money for the rights to air reruns of LOST. The series will begin airing in the fall of 2008, joining other nails in the former tech and video game station's coffin like COPS and Star Trek.Sci-Fi also picked up the rights to LOST, but at least that makes sense, because we all know the castaways are actually encapsulated in a glass bubble floating through space. G4 plans to redo LOST like they did Star Trek by creating "LOST 2.0," which will offer interactive elements and display factoids during the broadcast. G4 and Sci-Fi allegedly paid $200,000 per episode for the series -- although Sci-Fi footed most of the bill. Although it's sad to see G4 continue down this path toward becoming the poor man's Spike TV, at least we've got GameTrailers making good video game retrospectives. It could also be worse, G4 could still be doing that whole The Whip Set thing. Don't remember what that was? Check out the trailer after the break.

  • Lost: The Complete Third Season Blu-ray price drops $30

    09.22.2007

Losties are left with limited options for their our HD fix until the series returns in February, but to make the wait a bit easier and cheaper, Disney has announced a drop in price for the third season Blu-ray boxed set. After rumors of prices as high as $200 per season for HD Lost, it originally carried a $124.99 MSRP for all seven discs but that has now been reduced to $96.99, and actually listed for as low as $67.85 (compared to $38.99 for the DVD version) on Amazon. We don't know what prompted the price drop, but along with a BD-J special feature, 1080p transfer and uncompressed 5.1 soundtrack when it is released December 11, we're not complaining.
