It's patch day in Martial Empires, and gamigo has a hellish road in store for fans of the free-to-play action MMO. The Path to Purgatory update features a new survival mode challenge that pits players against hordes of monsters as they carve their way through 32 levels of a gigantic tower. There's also a big nasty waiting at the end of the challenge, and that's only part of the package. The update also features various mounts and battle pets, guild research functionality, and a new quest series that stretches from level one through 55. gamigo is also planning a number of in-game events, according to its latest press release, and you can learn more about Martial Empires on the game's official website. • A catastrophe waiting to happen: Martial Empires expands

The Cataclysm may have passed, but we still have a catastrophe to survive. The Catastrophe of Babylon, Martial Empires' newest expansion, is slated to arrive at the end of the month. Gamigo's free-to-play martial arts MMO already offers all the kung fu action you can handle, but now it will be fleshed out with much-anticipated (and needed) additions. One of the biggest features on Babylon's plate is the implementation of the long-awaited guild wars. High-level guilds will finally be able to go head-to-head with each other in brutal guild battles. Victorious guilds will be showered with long-term buffs and plenty of gold, which should be enough incentive for truly competitive fights. Babylon will also overhaul Martial Empires' graphics with a new rendering engine, and many of the monsters will be given makeovers to fit in better and boost their self-esteem. Players can anticipate exploring a number of additional dungeons in Babylon as well. Gamigo plans to hold an event to award access to the test servers for The Catastrophe of Babylon in the near future.

Back in April, we gave away 1,000 closed beta keys for Martial Empires, an upcoming MMO from Gamigo. The game intrigued us thanks to interesting little twists like the jackpot system, but it looks like beta is as far as many of us are going to get. Gamigo announced today that Martial Empires will not be accessible outside of Europe after launch due to legal issues -- agreements with the developer prevent it, but no other details are given. The changes will take place at the game's official launch, so if you live outside of Europe and are participating in beta testing, you can continue to do so, for what it's worth. Check out the Martial Empires site for the full announcement. [Update: One of our commenters has found the Martial Empires NA version, and it's going under the name of Seven Souls Online. Thanks for the pointer, BubleFett!]

Open beta brings extensive changes and additions to the game, including improved graphics and character customization. PvP combat has been fine-tuned, there are new display options on the map, and best of all, there is new content. The map has grown quite a bit, and the developers have brought several new regions to the game. Check out the gallery for a look at the newest version of Martial Empires, and then visit the site to check out the open beta! %Gallery-96620%
