Capcom's five-in-one "Essentials" bundle is now available at retailers, such as Amazon and Best Buy. The package includes five games for $60: Resident Evil 6, Super Street Fighter 4, Devil May Cry 4, Dead Rising 2 and a download code for Mega Man 10. First announced in late July, both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the bundle come with a Capcom-branded drawstring bag, which is a good place to stash the achievements and trophies you print out after earning them in each game. We're not the only ones that do that, right?

While there's no massive Mega Man game box set for the series' 25th anniversary, there is a PSN compilation in Japan, acting as sort of a digital box set. Minus the box.The Mega Man 25th Anniversary Commemorative Campaign Pack is a discounted bundle of all the Mega Man games currently available on Japan's PSN, including the PlayStation releases of Mega Man 1-5, along with 9 and 10. The set, discounted 50% from regular price, costs ¥2,500 (around $30), and will be on sale through January 7.

Mega Man turns 25 this year, and to celebrate Capcom is amassing the music from the series' 10 main games into a single collection, which will be available for ¥14,700 ($183.56) on September 19, provided you're fluent enough to traverse the exceedingly Japanese wilds of E-Capcom.Yes, sadly there have been no announcements regarding a North American release of the collection, which contains the NES and PlayStation soundtracks for Mega Man 1 through 6, as well as the jams from Mega Man 7, 8, 9 and 10, which don't have alternate versions. Here's hoping there's some kind of support structure for those discs inside of that E-Tank canister.

In addition to the Mega Man 9 and 10 DLC packs listed as discounted in this week's PSN update, you can also get ... Mega Man 9 and 10. And Mega Mans 1-3. Though they didn't show up on Sony's official list of updates, the entire Mega Man catalog on PS3 is on sale this week, half off. The PSOne Imports versions of Mega Man 1, 2, and 3 (based on the Japanese PlayStation re-releases) are now available for $2.99 each. Mega Man 9 and 10 sell for $4.99 each this week, with DLC bundles an extra $2.99. Given Capcom's recent attitude toward Mega Man, we'd love to see what happened if these discounts led to a massive sales boost.

  • 72-hour charity marathon lets internet pick games, gets really tough ones

The marathon gaming team Wily Whompers was scheduled to race team Zeldathon this week, but when that showdown fell through, it decided to turn its marathon into a Viewer's Choice of sorts, asking Reddit readers to help choose which games to play for 72 hours straight. The group is also raising money for Child's Play as it streams the event -- so far it has only reached a few hundred dollars, but there's still time left to play ... and watch. The team started with a run through Mega Man 10 and then the Reddit folks showed a cruel streak, sending the players through Super Meat Boy (we're told they beat all of the Light World levels and the warp zones), Super Ghouls N Ghosts and a few other unforgiving titles before the Whompers' current challenge as of this writing: Beating the forehead-slappingly difficult Demon's Souls. We can only wish them luck -- we're hard pressed to do anything for three days straight, much less play some of the hardest games around.

Hey, here's that new desktop background you desperately wanted, even if you didn't know it yet. It's a gargantuan spread featuring over 200 characters from video game franchises, new and old, redrawn in the style of Mega Man. The image comes from pixel artist Chris Bringhurst, who released a compilation half this size last month. If he wanted to keep doubling it every few weeks or so, we would not hold it against him. Click here to see the full version of the image -- but be prepared to bid farewell to a considerable portion of your day. [Thanks, David]

If you're anything like us, you're spending today avoiding the family that only comes around once or twice a year and hanging out with the ol' Xbox 360 (preferably with air conditioning as well). And though we have tons of games from the unusually busy first half of this year to still play catch up with, who are we to turn down this week's Xbox Live Arcade deals? Out of the four titles -- Mega Man 10, Scrap Metal, Death By Cube, and After Burner Climax -- all but one are half off, and even that one (Scrap Metal) is dropped in price by a third. So what're you waiting for? It's not like you'd be silly enough to spend today actually outside. There's sun out there! Gross!

Chances are you already know whether or not you'll purchase Mega Man 10. For retro gaming junkies -- particularly those who love punishment -- it's pretty much a no-brainer. On the other hand, those that enjoy the simple mechanics but not the bone-crushing difficulty might have a harder time pulling the trigger. Thankfully, that choice is a little easier this time around than it was for Mega Man 9. Unlike its 2008 predecessor, Mega Man 10 possesses an Easy mode. While it may not take all the challenge out of the game, it definitely seems to lighten things up a bit. Watch the latest XBLA in Brief and see if the Blue Bomber's latest adventure is for you. Also, don't worry if the last entry in the series, Mega Man 9, made you throw your controller into the blender in a fit of blind fury. Click to Enker the galleryCapcom will make downloadable Special Stages available in Mega Man 10 throughout April, for one dollar each. Should you make it to the end of each stage, you'll meet some musically-named bosses that will only be recognizable if you're a huge Mega Man nerd! The three stages feature the return of the Mega Man Killers, a group of bosses from the Game Boy Mega Man games. Special Stage 1, available the week of April 5, features Enker from the first portable Mega Man game, a robot with the ability to absorb and reflect shots. Special Stage 2 features Mega Man III's Punk, who uses a large spinning weapon called the Screw Crusher, and Special Stage 3 includes Ballade from Mega Man IV, who uses the explosive Ballade Cracker. Both Special Stage 2 and 3 will be released the week of April 26. %Gallery-88808%

The Blue Bomber -- who is inconveniently red in the pic above -- returns in the retro-centric Mega Man 10. Those who returned to Rapture with BioShock 2 can also pick up the "Sinclair Solutions Test Pack" for $5. There's also the fourth episode of The Tester -- how's that going? Oh yeah, for those with an interest in baseball (it's a game played with a stick), there's a demo for MLB 10: The Show. For those with a PSP, it's another solid comic book update. Though there's a lot of content on DSiWare in Japan today, it's almost entirely training stuff. So, it would seem that DSiWare stepped aside to let WiiWare's single release shine this week. (That's probably not what really happened -- but it's a nice thought.) In any case, Mega Man 10 is up on WiiWare in Japan today, and it's likely to overshadow anything else available this week, including the ancient Moon Cresta: Mega Man 10 (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points) Moon Cresta (VC Arcade, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) G.G. Series Throw Out (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Renjuku Kanji: Shougaku 4-nensei (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) Renjuku Kanji: Shougaku 5-nensei (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) Brain Challenge (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) Let's Golf (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

If you don't already have Mega Man 3 on the NES, the Wii Virtual Console or in the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, and if you have a Japanese PSN account, you'll be able to purchase the classic run-and-gun for your PlayStation systems next month. Capcom announced that the Rockman Complete Works PS1 port of Mega Man 3 will be added to the Japanese PlayStation Store in April. But some Japanese Mega Man 10 buyers will be able to get it early -- Capcom is giving away 50 copies to random PSN users who buy Mega Man 10 in the first two weeks of its availability.
