  • Vote Capcom faves into We Love Golf

Camelot's upcoming Wii golf title We Love Golf will feature Capcom-flavored alternate costumes for its male and female golfers, allowing players to tee off as Chun Li, Apollo Justice, Jill Valentine, or Arthur from Ghouls 'n Ghosts. The fun doesn't stop there, however, as Capcom is allowing fans to vote on the final two Capcom characters to be included in the North American and European versions of the game.By heading over to the official Capcom blog, players will be able to vote for one female character, and one male character. Female character choices consist of Cammy (Street Fighter), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Rouge (Power Stone), Roll Caskett (Mega Man Legends), and Ashley Graham (Resident Evil 4).The male options are Frank West (Dead Rising), Balrog (Street Fighter), Guy (Final Fight), Ken (Street Fighter), Dhalsim (Street Fighter), and Captain Commando (former Capcom mascot and protagonist of the arcade game of the same name). At the moment, Ken and Morrigan are both leading their respective polls. Of course, we wonder why Capcom can't simply include all the characters in the game, but we'll take what we can get.[Via Wii Fanboy]

  • Mega Man rocks the pipes

    by

    01.07.2008

We love a good dose of video game art, especially when it involves Mega Man and some ingenuity. This piece by 8-bit Artist made use of 23 pipes, each of which are painted 360-degrees around. On the opposite side is Mega Man in his red and orange Heat Man suit (though we prefer the Blue Bomber suit, ourselves). The pipes are also just shy of two feet, making this a good size for some wall hanging (or not, as it's two-sided). Unfortunately, if any of you collectors out there were hoping to do so, it won't be happening since the piece already sold. While we love the idea of using the pipes as a canvas, a part of us wonders whether this would be an idea better suited for Mario. Mario is, after all, an Italian plumber who often uses pipes to get where he's going. It's still cool, nonetheless, so check after the break to see some more pictures.

Video game rental service GameFly has a pretty big year-end sale going on through January 4th for over 30 of its used DS games. Though the carts are all pre-played, each one will come with a new manual and case, so you need not worry about receiving an incomplete set. As usual, we've picked the notable titles out of the bunch and listed them for you, except this time, we've done it in Christmas carol form! On the twelfth day of Christmas, DS Fanboy sent to me: Twelve Diddy Kong racers Racing ($17.99), Eleven Spectrobes for collecting ($15.99), Ten Hoshigamis a-SRPG-ing ($14.99), Nine Planet Puzzles Leaguing ($19.99), Eight Custom Robos a-fighting ($12.99), Seven Sim Cities a-building ($16.99), Six Bombermen a-touching ($22.99), Five of Sonic Rush's golden rinnngggggs ($17.99), Four Mana Children ($14.99), Three Elite Beat Agents ($22.99), Two Mega Man Star Forces ($17.99 each), And a Naruto: Ninja Council 3 ($17.99)! • No Mega Man in Brawl, it seems

If you're anything like us, you might be hoping that one of the daily dojo updates will drop the bomb that Mega Man will be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Unfortunately, it looks like that isn't happening. Bionic Commando recently interviewed Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man, who had this to say regarding Brawl: "Well, I really do love Super Smash Brothers. It's a great series...but, Nintendo hasn't asked me yet if they can use Mega Man in their game. I'm still waiting...we have a little bit of time left, it's not coming out for another few months."Somebody, call the man! But in reality, it seems too late to add the lovable blue robot if they haven't already (the game comes out next month in Japan). Is anybody as bummed as this blogger, or are you glad that Mega Man won't be involved in Brawl?[Via GoNintendo]

  • Mega Man bosses not challenging enough?

    12.01.2007

Try making a Mega Man boss select screen in latch-hook. None of Dr. Wily's castles can compare to the endless hand-cramping nightmare of trying knots in canvas with a byzantine hook contraption. The end result is one of the coziest level menus we've seen, so we suppose the work is justified (especially since it's not our work.)The work actually represents a melange of Robot Masters from Mega Mans 2-4, with portrait borders from Mega Man 3. It was completed by Craftster user obesolete (whose Punch-Out cross-stitch was featured on Wii Fanboy) and her boyfriend. We hope their hands have recovered sufficiently to allow them to play Mega Man again.[Thanks, Mary!]

  • Virtually Overlooked: Wily & Right no Rockboard: That's Paradise

Welcome to our weekly feature, Virtually Overlooked, wherein we talk about games that aren't on the Virtual Console yet, but should be. Call it a retro-speculative.We were driven into a melancholy by the news that Australia (and probably Europe) was getting a Virtual Console version of Mega Man 2 while we have yet to see a download of the first game. Many of you correctly noted that it was stupid to wait for a VC version with the Mega Man Anniversary Collection disc available so cheaply and plentifully. But we actually have the disc and the cartridge. It's a simple matter of wanting every game we like to be available through as many conduits as possible, to get into the most hands as possible. A Virtual Console release, as well, allows a game to come back to the attention of the gaming community, sparking discussion once again. We want that for Mega Man 2 forever. Our memories of Mega Man 2 are 110 million, after all.The existence of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection still makes any included game too easy to play on the Wii to be Virtually Overlooked material, even if, by doing so, it limits discussion. There's no real reason to wish for a game that you can just go buy for less money. That renders Mega Man 1-8 off limits (good luck playing 8 on a Nintendo system any other way!) as well as The Power Battle and The Power Fighters. But we still want to talk Mega Man, so we went scrambling for an appropriate game. Mega Man X? No, it is also available on a compilation. Rockman Battle & Chase? No, it's on the same compilation! Rockboard will have to do, then. It's got the benefit of being the weirdest Mega Man game yet, and we can keep Mega Man Soccer saved up for a bit.

  • Australia to get Mega Man 2, U.S. to get Not Mega Man 2

    11.28.2007

The latest update to the ESRB's ratings search page reveals some new games headed to the Virtual Console; among the more notable releases are King of Fighters '94, Top Hunter, Rolling Thunder 2 and The Dynastic Hero. The most notable release is Puyo Puyo 2-- on principle, anyway. That's because, while there are already two Puyo games on the VC, Puyo Puyo 2 is another of Sega's promised imports. As "awesome" as a third Puyo Puyo game is, the news is completely obliterated by the latest OFLC updates for Australia: Blades of Steel and Mega Man 2, which probably hint at a European release as well. We don't even have Mega Man yet! This must be what it feels like for European and Australian gamers most of the time. Have fun playing basically the best game ever, jerks. We'll just ... oh, wait, we've got the NES cartridge, and also the Mega Man Anniversary Collection. We'll just play one of those while listening to "Okkusenman".

  • MIDI + art + game songs = <3

Some awesome soul has taken it about himself to make visually enhanced game tunes, and the result is nothing short of spectacular. Using a program called Music Animation Machine MIDI Player, which converts the musical notes of MIDI songs into art, the creator of these videos has managed to blow our minds. Sure, we always enjoy it when musical sounds are synthesized with visual imagery, but when some of our favorite songs are involved, it just makes it that much better. We decided to put the Mega Man 2 "Dr. Wily Stage 1" song up top to celebrate Rock Man's 20th anniversary, and well, because it's our favorite. If you don't look after the break to check out the equally awesome Final Fantasy IV, Kirby, Mario, and other tunes, though, you officially fail at the internet.

  • Contest has Capcom putting fan-made character into game

We couldn't make this up if we tried. And, believe you me, we try to make up things all the time. Like, having money in our bank account or being respected by anyone. This, however, is reality.During a contest held by Capcom in Japan, one lucky fan could send in their own drawing for a character. The winner would have their character redrawn by the artists at Capcom and included in Mega Man Star Force 2. Word is a winner has been chosen and their character is nothing short of awesome. Dubbed Goat Kung-Fu, the character is unique in the way that it can karate chop boards of wood in half, then clean up its own mess by eating the leftover garbage.

So long as we're spending a whole week assailing you with links about Link, we thought we'd share with you one of the best fan-made art pieces we've seen for the green-capped adventurer. Jainai Jeffries created this amazing realistic envisioning of Link last year, posing him on a tree porcupined with red-fletched arrows. Past the post break, you can check out an uncolored version of the above image and several other video game reinterpretations Jainai has illustrated.

  • PSP Fan Art Fridays: Mega Man

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday. We really enjoyed the Mega Man remakes that hit the PSP. They had beautiful graphics to accompany the classic gameplay. Unfortunately, their poor sales killed any chance of future Mega remakes. Fred Andrew Urzua seems to have come up with a way to sell Mega Man: combine him with Hello Kitty. After all, there could be a Hello Kitty branded plague and Kitty fans would line up to get infected. It's impressive that this piece of art retains the cuteness of Hello Kitty, while still having all the distinct features of Mega Man. All that's left is for Capcom to give Sanrio a call, and make Urzua's vision a reality. If you like the above fan art as much as we do, surf on over to Urzua's deviantART page to see his other work. That, or you can let Urzua know what you think of the art in our comments section. %Gallery-3450%

  • DS Daily: Those pesky names

Stupid names. Who needs 'em? We never did. Growing up, we never talked about moblins or lynel in The Legend of Zelda. We talked about the spear dudes and those stupid #*@&$^) centaur guys (except with more colorful metaphors). We were dirty, dirty children who shouldn't have been allowed to mix with the other children. But the point is, manual-reading aside, the official names for creatures in video games just never seemed to stick with us. Oh, maybe some (evil) people could summon the precise names for Lakitus and Metools, but we were not those people. This is why we like Castlevania. You know what a Fish Head is? It's a freakin' fish-headed monster. Even we can remember that. But what about you?

  • Epicenter Studios planning to fight fire with... Wii

    by
    Ludwig Kietzmann
    Ludwig Kietzmann
    06.22.2007

Despite Mega Man's interpretation of the subject, a fireman is designed to put out fires, not to start them. Yes, we said "designed." Mega Man actually got that part right -- firemen are, in fact, super efficient robots. According to upstart developer Epicenter Studios, they're also the perfect subject for a video game on Nintendo's Wii. The studio, comprised of former producers for the Call of Duty, Shrek, Spider-Man and Star Trek franchises, recently announced a Wii game by the name of Real Heroes: Firefighter. Gamasutra describes it as a "firefighting action puzzle game," one that has the Wiimote becoming a water hose, a fire axe or a crowbar (for saving people, not bashing aliens!). The game also features "Thinking Fire" technology meant to incur "unexpected changes to the environments that will suddenly alter the player's options and strategies." It sounds an awful lot like real, dumb fire to us, but we'll take anything given today's glaring lack of Burning Rangers 2. If the game finds a publisher and makes its planned 2008 holiday release, we'll see whether or not those flames are intelligent enough to spread to the sales charts.[Via Wii Fanboy]

Striking while Mega Man ZX is still fresh in our minds (and our Sales posts), Capcom has two new commercials advertising the action platformer's sequel, Mega Man ZX Advent, for its Japan release this July 12th. The US version won't arrive until October, but we love to oversaturate our minds with previews and media to the point where we lose interest in a game long before it even hits store shelves. Depressing, isn't it?If you enjoyed the anime cut-scenes that were scattered throughout Mega Man ZX, you'll be happy to see their return with these clips of Grey -- one of the two new heroes in Advent -- dodging about a jillion bullets and lasers. Jump past the post break and defeat one of the Pseudoroid bosses for the video.

  • Mega Man mobile mayhem

    06.08.2007

Insert Credit reports that Japanese mobile phones are able to download the original Mega Man (Rock Man to the Japanese). The game has apparently had its difficulty readjusted "so that the new age kids won't throw their phones in frustration." They believe a different version is hitting the US currently. Has anybody seen it, how does it play? It's a good thing to see mobile games moving beyond Tetris clones, even though the Tetris and Bejeweled games still make the most money. One of the more eye-roll inducing moments was Square-Enix's (along with many other publishers) focus on mobile games two E3s ago. Thankfully, Nintendo DS and PSP sales redirected focus. As much as getting Mega Man or Final Fantasy on a mobile phone sounds nice, focusing on making "real" versions for the Nintendo DS and PSP sounds like a better thing for gamers -- or, at least, less obnoxious.

Capcom's GBA action-platformer has been discounted to $9.90, almost a fifth of its original price! RockMan 2 Zero boasts a similar discount as a limited time offer, but you get an additional dollar off if you bundle the two games together for your order, bringing the total cost to $18.80.And in case you've already forgotten, Renchi has also marked a number of its DS import titles down to $9.99, one of them being RockMan ZX!
