  • Give Windows a touch of Mega Man class

Sure, Windows users (used to) get all the games but until now there was one major advantage to Apple's Mac OS X operating system: Mike Zornek's Mega Man Effect. The legion of Windows users have waited long enough; Levi Wolfe has done the grunt work and ported the handy* little app over to the Windows platform for the rest of the computer-using world to enjoy. *By "handy" we of course mean "of no discernible value." The program duplicates the music, parallax stars, and name banner shown before every boss battle in Mega Man by showing the same effect every time you launch an application. To be fair, sometimes those Excel spreadsheets are worse than Dr. Wily and company. [Thanks, Sense]

Something Awful's Photoshop Phriday makes for some really good Sunday browsing. Last Friday's feature was "Mega Man Gets Equipped," wherein they "decided to give Megaman a few abilities and traits not depicted in any of the games. Abilities that, unfortunately, are not very likely to help him in any way, shape, or form." Entries reference everything from the Toxic Avenger (New Jersey's only superhero) to Monty Python's Black Knight to that song from the Transformers movie and Boogie Nights (lending Mega Man abilities like "The Touch" and "The Power").

  • Capcom vaguely commits to the Revolution

Okay, now this is getting ridiculous. For some reason, developers seem to enjoy answering in ambiguous, wishy-washy and altogether non-committal ways when questioned about the Revolution. "Ah, yes, I've heard of the Revolution. It's very exciting." "Are you developing for it?" "I'd love to!" "Is that a yes?" "Well, it has this wacky new controller...I bet we could do really amazing things with it." "Is that a yes?" "I think it's wonderful that Nintendo is trying something out there, you know?" "Are you going to answer the question?" "I'd love to!" "Is that a yes?" And so it goes. Speaking to the Official Nintendo Magazine in the UK, Capcom developers did little to buck the trend and offered some insight into their vague plans. Atsushi Inaba (President of Clover Studios) said that Nintendo had not formally asked about a Viewtiful Joe title as of yet, though he would be delighted to oblige if they did. He expressed interest in utilizing the controller for Joe's actions, as well as some uncertainty as to how exactly the many VFX powers would be implemented. Minae Matsukawa (Producer of Phoenix Wright) pointed out how cool it would be to develop for the Revolution, but that he was far too busy with the French localization of Ace Attorney to commit to a next-gen entry in the franchise. Finally, Tsukasa Takenake (Designer of Mega Man Battle Network 5) had the most interesting thing to say: If fans want a first-person perspective Mega Man game on the Revolution, he'd be willing to give it a (charge) shot. Interesting! In summary, it looks like we can, with a fair degree of certainty, expect Capcom to probably make some kind of Revolution game at some point. Maybe. We're sure they'd love to. • Mega Man ZX official website up

We've got to admit that we're awfully excited about the recently revealed Mega Man ZX, a brand new DS entry in the platforming series that forgets all that 3D nonsense and takes us back to that good 'ole  2D jumping through-the-boss-door gameplay we obsessively love. We seriously dig Mega Man and have gotten over the fact that he's actually not a man at all, but a little robotic thief that strips hilariously named enemies (Clown Man, we're looking at you) of their surprisingly useful powers. The official website is up now and, while not revealing much information (even less if you can't read the Japanese characters) does give you a glimpse at the new spiffy saucer-eyed character designs and the newly created Mega Woman. Girrrrrl power and all that. Anyone care to translate this for us? We'll pay you in Zeenies.[Thanks shiftup72!]

Capcom has announced that not just one, but two new Mega Man titles are PSP bound! Mega Man Powered Up touts a totally redesigned Mega Man look and feel and completely new gameplay options, including a level designer that will allow players to design their own stages. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the original Mega Man X title that first appeared on the SNES. The game builds upon the original, adding newly rendered 3D character models and new environments. Initially available in Europe (and via import elsewhere), Mega Man Powered Up will be available March 24 while Mega Man Maverick Hunter X will be available a month earlier on February 24.

  • Mega Man remakes announced for PSP

Capcom has confirmed that two classic Mega Man titles are being remade for the PSP. First up is Rockman Rockman (Japan), which is a remake of the original Mega Man for NES. The most obvious change is a 3D visual upgrade (see right)-looks like Capcom is going for the Blue Bomber bobblehead look-and the inclusion of Constructor mode. Constructor will allow players to create their own levels and trade them with their friends. Rockman Rockman will also feature new stages and boss battles. The second Mega Man remake, Irregular Hunter X (Japan), is based on the SNES classic Mega Man X. Expect updated visuals, new stages, and unique modes of play. In addition, Mega Man will retain his more mature look from the original SNES game. Irregular Hunter X is tentatively set for a March 30 release (in Japan), while Rockman Rockman will make an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show next week. So with that, does the prospect of games of yesteryear being remade for portable systems excite you?
