The Kojima Productions Report podcast says Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is in its "last push" and moving into bug testing. ShackNews listened to the whole podcast and reports that MGS4's Q2 release date is still nebulous, but that the game will ship worldwide to various territories within days of each other.Kojima Productions Report podcast host Ryan Payton says that MGS4 will have an "emergence day" where they'll give information like a release date, packaging content and other game details. This emergence date wasn't given and issues regarding the undying rumors of MGS4 on Xbox 360 were mentioned but not addressed.

When a game goes "gold" it basically means everything is done and the game's just waiting for its release date to pounce on the masses. Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't gold -- but if we could call it anything, it would be silver. The game's done. It's not going to miss its release date of Q2 2008. What's left? According to Konami, there's just bug testing left to go, as well as inserting bits of the opening movie or something. What we're trying to say is that do not expect any more delays for this game. It's coming. Be ready. Well, be more ready when we get a solid release date, but for now, be adequately prepared to get ready.[via Digg]

This Metal Gear Solid 4 video from Gamespot contains a few interesting tidbits of info regarding the release of Metal Gear Solid 4. First, the release is confirmed, set, cemented and on target for Q2 2008. Honest. There are also discussions within the Konami marketing department regarding a limited edition box for the game - though we're hoping it won't really contain a live alligator or a gun. Metal Gear Online is once again reiterated as being a pack-in starter pack with MGS4. There's no word yet on whether a full release will be on shelves along with MGS4, or whether the non-starter content will only be made available via the PSN Store. Finally, there's some more in-game footage from the first level of the game. You know, the one you've watched about a hundred times already.

If you've been looking for some Metal Gear Solid 4 footage, you may have stumbled upon the above footage from the English demo. If not, enjoy. Back at TGS, Hideo Kojima said there would be about 70 weapons in the game and the new demo shows many of those new weapons in action. It also shows Snake in a variety of, uh, situations where the weapons come in handy. It's looking great and we're excited to get our hands on it at some point this year![Thanks NukeAssault!]

We were promised a LittleBigPlanet demo in late 2007, but a sample of the user-generated-content-fueled platformer never materialized. It should come as no surprise then that (as rumored) the game will be missing its originally announced launch window of early 2008. Eurogamer's reporting that inside sources indicate a September release for the game.Though we're saddened to have to wait, can we at least look forward to a LBP demo sometime in the spring? Or maybe Home? Anything? Hello? All we can say on behalf of all the PS3 owner out there is that Metal Gear Solid 4 had better be awesome.

Despite the fact that Metal Gear 20th Anniversary: Metal Gear Solid Collection still hasn't seen a Western release, we can now enjoy at least one part of the collection. Included in the box set is the Metal Gear Saga video, which is narrated by an unnamed character who apparently had a run-in with Solid Snake sometime in the past.Since the video was entirely in Japanese we couldn't understand what was being said until the guys at MetalGearSolid.org recently translated the video. It's a pretty interesting and definitely a treat for Metal Gear fans.

  • Rumorang: MGS4 'exclusive' to PS3, 'no plans' for Xbox version, Konami declares

    by

Yes! No!! Maybe so? The tossing of the rumorang continues as Konami has paralyzed New Year's "confirmation" of Metal Gear Solid 4 for Xbox 360: "For the record, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and there are no plans to develop an Xbox 360 version of the game," a Konami representative has reportedly told TGR. No plans? Well, there are plans – just if and when these 'plans' are executed seems to hinge on sales of the PS3 version: Poor sales suggest Konami would port MGS4 to Xbox 360 in an attempt to recoup development costs. Then again, strong sales could point Konami in a similar direction. Why not fatten profit by going multiplatform, say, like, 12-14 months down the line...? (Hear that? That's the sound of the rumorang circling back around.)[Via X3F]

  • Konami emphatically denies latest MGS4 rumor

In what we believe to be record time, the latest Xbox 360 Metal Gear Solid 4 rumor has been debunked and called total bologna by none other than Konami's PR themselves. Who would have thought? After hearing about XboxFamily confirming with a Konami rep that MGS4 was indeed headed to the 360, The Game Reviews contacted their Konami PR guy and he emphatically denied the rumor. Mr. Konami rep went on to say that "for the record, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and there are no plans to develop an Xbox 360 version of the game." Ouch. A bit harsh. So, that should be the end of all Xbox 360 MGS4 rumors forever and ever, right? That is unless Konami is hiding something and doesn't want their big 360 announcement spoiled so they deny it only because they know MGS4 is Xbox 360 bound! Ha! Taking a denial of a rumor and turning it into a rumor ... we're pure genius.[Thanks, Harjot Bajwa]

Though we're still shaking off the gaming haze of 2007, aught-eight is under way and waiting for no man. Just when it seems like nothing could top last year's surfeit of incredible games, along comes a feature by TheStreet.com, covering 2008's biggest known releases and reminding us that we're not out of the water yet. Considering their Wall Street pedigree, it shouldn't be surprising that they concentrate mostly on the major public companies and their biggest '08 releases. First up is Take-Two and Grand Theft Auto IV, the obvious frontrunner in terms of sales for '08. Next is EA's Spore, which presents a slightly more muddled outlooks; without a franchise name to build off of, and a nebulous release date, analysts aren't sure where to put it. THQ's been hurting a bit lately, so analysts are hopeful that Saint's Row 2 (expected in '08) along with licensed games (y'know, for kids) will help pull them out of their funk. Oh, and there's some Wii Fit thing which is supposed to make "Nintendo" a bunch of cash. Or something. The last two titles on their list are PS3 exclusives: Metal Gear Solid 4 they say "will be a bigger deal for Sony than for Konami" while LittleBigPlanet could "revive Sony's fortunes in the video games industry." What other big titles should we be looking out for in '08? [Via GamePolitics]

  • Rumor: MGS4 360 bound 12-14 months after PS3 release

    01.01.2008

It wouldn't be the New Year without some juicy rumor talk and today it's all about the Metal Gear Solid 4. According to XboxFamily, they claim to have spoken with a Konami distribution rep who confirmed that MGS4 has been in development on the 360 since early 2007 and that it will release 12-14 months after the PS3 version. XboxFamily is pretty confident in the credibility of their Konami insider, but you can color us unimpressed. To us it's just more MGS4 coming to the Xbox 360 talk, another rumor we can add to the ever increasing list we already have and all we want is Konami to speak up. We give it another six weeks until the next MGS4 rumor surfaces.[Thanks, Blake P.]

  • Rumorang: MGS4 on Xbox 360, 12-14 months late

We know we don't need to tell you guys this, but Metal Gear Solid 4 coming to the Xbox 360 is still a rumor despite gaming site Xbox Family saying, rather unequivocally, "Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming to the Xbox 360. This is not a rumor." Well, duh ... it's a rumorang. With that caveat out of the way (and stowed safely in a locker somewhere), we'll proceed to relay the rumorang your way: An unnamed Konami rep apparently dropped some knowledge on Xbox Family, whispering that MGS4 would sneak onto the Xbox 360 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version is released (whenever that is). The site also published a lengthy email from Microsoft's John Porcaro basically saying "no comment" which they also suspect may be further proof of the rumor. (Why did he write so much? He's very polite, you know.)With Konami execs straight up saying that Metal Gear Solid 4 may go to other consoles, and MGS4 producer Ryan Payton saying the game needs to sell a million copies on day one to make the pricey production profitable, it's not like Konami's showing their best poker face either. But that doesn't mean it's not still a rumor which, of course, we don't need to tell you guys.[Thanks, The Dutch Slayer]

  • Metal Gear Solid 4 needs a million sold on day one

Kojima Production's upcoming PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 is a very pricey game to make. Making it exclusive to one console is a risky proposition, especially in an era of skyrocketing game development. Ryan Payton told Reuters that the high-profile title "needs to sell over a million copies on the first day it goes on sale due to its costly production." Will this be likely considering the PS3's small userbase?Sony says that it's been prepared for the loss of third party exclusives from the get-go, understanding that publishers will want to recoup their costs differently in this generation of hardware. "We understand publishers are needing to recoup their investment," said Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing for Sony. "From our perspective, as long as the games aren't going exclusive to other platforms, PS3 gamers are not actually losing anything." Their strategy? To have the most first party development -- more than Nintendo and Microsoft combined.Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't the last of Sony's big exclusives. In the far future, fans can also look forward to Final Fantasy XIII. In addition, Dille noted that "15 PS3 exclusives released between September 2007 and April 2008."

  • Konami stocks slide after MGS4 delay

It seems more than just gamers are hinging on Metal Gear Solid 4 to give their purchases some well-deserved credibility. For gamers, it's a reason to flaunt their PS3's in addition to all those other games they've gotten, but for investors, MGS4 was apparently a reason to buy Konami stock. With the announcement of a second MGS4 delay, somehow faith in Konami has plummeted, reducing the stocks a substantial amount, almost 6%. Konami claims the fall is due to concerns that earnings growth may slow, but all gamers really want to know is when Konami will let Metal Gear Solid 4 enter their PS3's and give the system a much needed discgasm. Solid Snake knows how to please the consoles, after all.[via Next-Gen]

We know the news of Metal Gear Solid 4's delay has you down. Hell, you should see the bar tab we rung up after the announcement. Although we'd like to believe we're the most important people to be affected by it, that simply isn't the case. Konami's investors definitely take the cake this time, as they witnessed the company's shares fall 6.8% today, their biggest drop in four years. You'd have to go back to a year when people still remotely cared about The Matrix Trilogy (2003) to find as large a drop for Konami. According to an analyst Bloomberg spoke with, investors "were active sellers today because of disappointment over the delay." On the bright side, at least spurned gamers aren't liquidating their pre-order portfolio.

Geriatric neck-snapping spy news now, with Konami of Japan announcing a delay in Solid Snake's arrival on the PlayStation 3. The press release coldly increments the previously expected Q1 release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to Q2 2008, sparing little thought as to the taste of bitter tears and follicle-wrenching pain we had to endure whilst reading it. There's some consolation to be found in the assurance that the delay will allow "further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide."Konami further promises that pushing Metal Gear Solid 4 into the April-June arrival window will ensure it "meets everyone's expectations." We certainly hope so, as our expectations have been sitting at the airport with nothing to do for years now but read interviews with Ryan Payton.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

Cast your minds back in time. Remember when Metal Gear Solid 4 was due out this Christmas? Konami were so sure that was the case that they even made a joke about a delay in one of their trailers this year. Well that was a lie (as are many other things) and the game really did get pushed back to 2008. Now, it seems, there will be another delay until the second quarter of 2008. Konami promises that the delay will provide "greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide." Of course, it's difficult to compare these worldwide enjoyment levels without releasing the game twice so this may too be a lie. Have patience - there are enough games coming out this year to keep you busy until the middle of summer. MGS4 will be out before you know it. Unless it's delayed again.

Toy manufacturers are banking on the success of Metal Gear Solid 4. Here's yet another set of meticulously designed figures from the upcoming PS3 tactical espionage game. Raiden (pictured above) looks quite cool in his new robotic ninja outfit. Too bad his face doesn't look quite good when you open his mask.Old Snake is also available ... but at a price! These figures go for a whipping $179 each! (Budget consumers should check out this other set instead.) Toy collectors are used to such extravagant prices, but will you be able to afford to pre-order one?[Via NeoGAF]

While E For All may have been sparsely attended, we did manage to catch up with a few notables while we dodged tumbleweeds and worked our way through the cavernous South Hall. Konami's booth with its Metal Gear Solid 4 demo easily had the longest line, which kept some of the attendees behind barbed wire fences until they were treated to a lucky 15 minutes of glory. So, we decided to sit down with one of the men behind the game. Namely, Konami's Ryan Payton, who has the enviable position of being one of the Assistant Producers on MGS4. He is also one of the extremely few Westerners working on this title. Mind you, he is fluent in Japanese and is currently living over there, which certainly makes things a bit easier. Check out our interview with him about the game after the break.%Gallery-8799%

  • English version of MGS4 to be more difficult

Finish the fight."What can I say about the ending ... it's the final chapter of Solid Snake, no joke about it. There's no smoke and mirrors, no jack in the box trick, this is the final chapter in his life, and in his story," Ryan Payton from Kojima Productions says in his revealing Metal Gear Solid 4 interview. In addition to promising a fulfilling end to the MGS saga, there are hints at unannounced gameplay modes (vehicles, perhaps?).Most surprisingly is the differentiation between both the English and Japanese versions of the game. "It's going to be harder than the Japanese version, I can say that right now." The main reason for the difficulty change? The new FPS controls: "That over the shoulder view is going to be, I hope, the focal point. I want to make that the default setting." Honestly, we like it better that way. Make sure you read the rest of the Joystiq interview for more.
