NBA 2K14 will see an improved MyTeam mode on Xbox One and PS4, 2K Sports announced. MyTeam is the fantasy team mode similar to EA's Ultimate Team modes being offered in its sports games, including NBA Live 14. Among the features players will find on Xbox One and PS4 is "Domination mode," which has players going up against "actual NBA teams." Next-gen players will also have access to new card colors with different levels of rarity: emerald, sapphire and ruby. Lastly, if our gallery of next-generation MyTeam screens are any indicator, the developer has moved away from the mode's traditional "VC" in-game currency. 2K Sports has not specified whether current-gen players can transfer their My Team cards to their next-gen system of choice. NBA 2K14 will launch alongside the Xbox One and PS4 this month.

This PS4 trailer for NBA 2K14 demonstrates the depth of detail in the next-gen version of the game. Though the footage is from a variety of favorable camera angles, it shows impressive detail, from individual hairs in James Harden's beard to beads of sweat on cover athlete LeBron James' face. The video is also set to Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight," instantly making it one of the best sports video game trailers in existence (even though Dead Space 3 did it first). How well the footage compares to the actual next-gen version of NBA 2K14 remains to be seen, as it will launch with the Xbox One and PS4 when the systems arrive in November. Our review of the current-generation version says it is "the finest simulation of basketball out there" and that "this year's entry in the series is bolstered by smart and simple additions."

NBA 2K14 recently hit the portable courts, as it launched on iOS and Android this week for $7.99. The game can't be found on the Google Play store, however, as it is exclusive to the Amazon App Store on Android. The mobile version of NBA 2K14, optimized by 2K China, includes multiplayer matches with GameCenter support, a multi-season dynasty mode and optional one-finger controls. The game features iCloud support so players can back up their save files, making them accessible across multiple iOS devices. Just don't get caught traveling while swapping devices. That's a basketball joke.

For the last few years, the NBA 2K series has taken great care to show reverence and respect for the sport's past, highlighting the greatest accomplishments and players to set foot on the hardwood. It began with NBA 2K11, which brought Michael Jordan to the forefront. Then NBA 2K12 gave us legendary match-ups to play, replete with historical presentation cues and visual fidelity. Then NBA 2K13 gave us ... Jay-Z. This year, NBA 2K14 tries something a little different. By attaching LeBron James, NBA 2K14 attempts to look forward and provide fans with an outlet to predict the future of today's greatest basketball player.

2K Sports recently revealed a few more details for NBA 2K14's Crews mode. In the mode, which was announced to return in NBA 2K14 in August, players create teams with custom jersey and logo options, inviting friends to join with their created athletes for online play against other teams. After a few years of absence from the series, Crews will offer 3-on-3 half-court and 5-on-5 full-court matches, each played to 21 points. It will also include leaderboards that track stats from matches along with player fatigue, which 2K Sports said was "tuned specifically for Crews to make it even more realistic." NBA 2K14 will launch October 1 on PS3, PC and Xbox 360, with Xbox One and PS4 versions arrive at each console's launch.

2K Games has issued a features list for NBA 2K14, highlighting improvements over last year's game and some new additions to the series altogether. After a few years of absence, Crews mode is making its comeback in NBA 2K14 on Xbox 360 and PS3 only. We know what you're thinking: It's not a mode that replaces all your players with Terry Crews, but the 2K series' take on clans, in which players group up and play against rival squads. The mode also lets you incorporate your custom MyPlayer persona. A selection of 14 European teams will be represented in NBA 2K14 across all platforms, including true names and uniforms, and the game will benefit from daily roster updates to reflect real-world player performance in-game. In addition to that, a whole host of features and balance tweaks are documented in the extensive list past the break.%Gallery-196021%

NBA 2K14 will be available on October 1 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Versions made for Xbox One and PS4 are also in the works for their launches, SVP of Basketball Operations at 2K Sports Jason Argent confirmed on a conference call earlier today. "We are not doing a Wii U version this year," Argent said. "The decision was made internally." Argent added studio didn't have enough resources to pursue a Wii U port while also developing for next-generation consoles. Though next-generation and current generation versions of NBA 2K14 will have "some overlap," they will be "distinct." "The common thread, of course, is the game first and foremost is based on simulation basketball," Argent said. "Both current and next-gen will be distinct, unique experiences."
