If you've been with us this far, you know today is Guild Wars day here at Massively. Yes, we have delved into the land of scantily clad ladies and powerful, daring men that would make even Vallejo feel all warm and fuzzy. (Okay, maybe it just makes us feel all warm and fuzzy. But still...) This time, we're featuring four copies of Eye of the North to give away! Well, three boxed copies and one game key, but again, we know a download won't stop you from getting your monster slaying on.Four lucky winners will be chosen at random for this giveaway -- although I will warn you that Eye of the North requires you to have a copy of Guild Wars already. EotN is the first real game-required expansion to the series as opposed to the prior standalone "expansions." Of course, we have to throw out the official rules disclaimer that you must be 18 years of age, a resident of the U.S., leave a comment here before 2:00 pm Eastern on 11/10, and fully understand that the blonde hottie above will not show up at your house to give you your copy. But if you already have Guild Wars and would like to pick up a copy of the Eye of the North for your very own, here's your chance. On your mark, get set, comment!

We don't know about you, but lunch hour is one of the best times of the day. Why? Not only do you get to relax for a bit, but in our case, it's a great time to get some gaming in. Of course, some people will undoubtedly scream at us for having food anywhere near the computer. (At least you're not having to buy our replacement keyboards, eh? ;D ) For this next giveaway, we're offering up today's featured game; Guild Wars. Why is this a great lunchtime game? Simple! The way the GW world is set up, you can generally easily grab a quest or two and blow through them in a lunch hour. Or you can just log in for a bit and enjoy the beautiful landscape, letting your mind chill out in some place that doesn't look like a cubicle or classroom for a bit. Now to the good part -- one lucky winner is getting what we like to consider the Guild Wars lunchtime escape pack! We're giving away all of the Guild Wars games (this time in full boxed set that we'll mail to you) for folks who need a game to enjoy some downtime in.This time, however, we'd like to hear what your favorite lunchtime escape is. Do you like to game, read, take a walk, or just come hang out with us here for lunch? Leave your lunchtime advice in the comments and you may be lucky enough to walk away with lots of Guild Wars goodness! As per the official rules, you must be 18 and up, a U.S. resident, and have left that lunchtime tip left here before 12:00 pm Eastern on 11/10 to be eligible. So tell us, what's your lunchtime zen?

Happy one week birthday to us! It's been a tremendous first week, and we've been honored to see such a great showing of support from the MMO community. You all are really making this a launch to remember, and we'd like to thank you for it by yet another crazy day filled with birthday presents -- for you!Okay, enough mushy stuff from us. Today's Massive Giveaways feature that free-to-play sensation, Guild Wars! With many features folks have come to love (hooray henchmen) and the ability to group up with friends all without having to deal with subscriptions, this has become an extremely popular title. If you haven't had a chance to get your own copy (or complete your set of all of them) never fear! We have lots and lots of great Guild Wars prizes to give away today. For this first hour, we're giving away a key for the combined set of all the Guild Wars games! This key includes Guild Wars, Guild Wars: Factions, Guild Wars: Nightfall and Guild Wars: Eye of the North. True, you will have to download the games from online when you register your keys (or perhaps snitch a copy of the installers from that friend of yours who has been pestering you to play) but for four fabulously fun games to play, what's a little download between friends? As always, there's that 18 & up, must be a U.S. resident and all the other official rules business that you know so well by now. But for those eligible, what are you waiting for? You only have until 10:00 am Eastern on Saturday (11/10) to get your name in the hat, so get to commenting!

  • Guild Wars beta testing to begin in China

As if Chinese gamers didn't have enough online gaming to occupy their leisure (and work) time, The9 has announced Guild Wars China will begin closed beta testing on Nov. 29. One of the most anticipated games on the mainland, Guild Wars attracted 200,000 applicants on the first day of beta registration last week. Maybe an aspiring Chinese clan will unseat South Korea's reigning Guild Wars champs The Last Pride at the next world tournament.The9 also hosts World of Warcraft and Webzen's Soul of the Ultimate Nation, but it is unknown if the Shanghai-based developer's Guild Wars deal with NCsoft also includes the Factions and Nightfall expansions.See also: Nightfall world premiere sets Guild Wars record

Nightfall represents the third entry in NCsoft's successful Guild Wars series, and provides the most compelling reason yet for fans of single-player RPGs to try out this subscription-free MMO. While developer ArenaNet continues to push the franchise forward with new professions and exotic locales, some critics expressed concerns over the aging graphics engine and the fact that party formation in the virtual towns remains needlessly difficult. However, there's still the addictive gameplay, and the flexibility of self-contained expansions means you can jump in (or jump out) at any time. How many of you plan on picking up Nightfall? 1UP (90/100) thinks Nightfall will appeal to the NWN-Oblivion crowd: "The most noteworthy addition comes in the form of 14 new nonplayer hero characters who -- unlike the addlebrained henchmen of campaigns past -- offer complete customization options to players. It saves a lot of headaches, and makes Guild Wars feel more like a single-player RPG than ever before." Gamespot (82/100) appreciates the enhanced enemy AI: "Nightfall introduces many impressive-looking, powerful new enemies to fight, and it also seems to have updated their artificial intelligence to make them even more ruthless -- they'll happily go after your party's soft targets, like your monks and elementalists, not just attack the frontline." GameDaily (70/100) had some issues with Nightfall's pacing: "It takes a long time for the story to get started. Unlike previous games, players can't select a secondary profession until level 5. Even so, many players will have made it halfway to level 20 (the game's maximum level) before the story starts to pick up any real momentum. Of course, Guild Wars has never been a game that has put strong emphasis on levels, but it's the only marker players have to see if they've outgrown a particular area."

NCsoft and ArenaNet have confirmed a franchise record attendance for the world premiere event of Guild Wars Nightfall. This past weekend, nearly 500,000 MMO enthusiasts spent an average of 8.5 hours trying out the new expansion pack, which officially launches Oct. 27. How many of you participated in this event? If you've been thinking about trying out Guild Wars, the Factions expansion pack is on sale for $30 at Circuit City until tomorrow (and you don't need the original game to play).See also: 3 million hours spent on Guild Wars Factions preview weekend

The exclusive PvP preview event for Guild Wars Nightfall just ended, but fans of the series won't have long to wait for the game's pre-release bonus pack. NCsoft has announced Sept. 15 as the launch date for the pack, and the bonus content is too numerous to list here, but we'll mention the exclusive weapons for the two new professions. Should you choose the Dervish profession, the Icy Soulbreaker of Enchanting is yours to wield, while the Paragon will master the Firey Sunspear of Shelter. I don't have a clue what these weapons do, but they sound neat. How many Joystiqers have joined a guild?

NCsoft has announced the third Guild Wars campaign, Nightfall, which will have an exclusive PvP preview for current members on July 28-30. Like its predecessors, Nightfall is a standalone module with a new continent to explore, and will only require the earlier games if you have characters to transfer. However, veterans might be tempted to start fresh with one of the two new professions -- the angelic Paragon or the scythe-wielding Dervish, both of which are previewed at GameSpot. Visit the game's official web site for more details on the Nightfall preview event, as well as updates on the Guild Wars Factions Championship.See also: Guild Wars goings-on NCsoft's E3 booth tour Guild Wars: character slots for cash coming soon
