  • Evolve those Pokemon with nothing more than some wrenches

It isn't like it used to be. You'd sneak your Game Boy to school and level up your Pokemon (with the ultimate goal being to evolve them) at lunch or between classes, maybe even during class. On the bus ride to and from school; any available minute was spent battling and tending to those Pokemon. Well, now we've all grown up a bit and have responsibilities, we can't give our Pokemon the attention they once received. Enter Joshua, who managed to figure out that for every 256 steps you take with your Pokemon, it gains one happiness point. This means that in order to achieve the maximum 250 happiness points for your Pokemon, you would need to take 64,000 steps in-game, which is no small feat.* Joshua was determined to get his evolve on though and managed to find several spots in the game with moving floors, allowing him to take 13 steps every six seconds. He'd still have to sit there and do it though, right? Wrong. Joshua set up a pair of wrenches to handle his meatbag hands' job and after a good night's rest, he woke up to find several super-happy, fully-evolved Pokemon. Way to cut corners, Joshua!*We love puns.[Via Joystiq]

Nintendo sent out a release today, lauding their Wi-Fi Connection service for the DS as it has reached a total of 5 million users and 200 million game sessions. This is impressive, considering the service launched in late 2005 and now boasts a library of 65 games supporting WFC play. Nintendo also let us in on what the top five games (globally) are: Animal Crossing: Wild World Mario Kart DS Metroid Prime: Hunters Pokemon Diamond Pokemon Pearl Considering that less than 10 months ago the service was only at 1.7 million users, this is an incredible increase. With such an impressive jump in usage, we're wondering what could've caused the spike. Oh wait ... we think we know.[Via press release]

If you stare long enough into the Hypnotoad's eyes, you'll only find madness. But, in a lot of ways, it is a beast similar to the DS Lite. Hypnotizing and a pleasure to stare at, we're given an example of how intoxicating the DS Lite is through the embedded video which shows a young girl playing her handheld and ignoring just about everything else in the world. We imagine she could enjoy playing her DS through a zombie apocalypse, the way she's so absorbed by the dual-screened platform.Check out the video past the break.

  • NMS: Planet Puzzle League hands-On

If this is a league of planetary bodies comprised of many puzzles, we want in. If this is a planet full of puzzle leagues, we want in. Okay, we just want in. Our fondness for puzzle games is well-documented in these parts, so it should be no surprise to you that we want this game. We want it now. But, alas, we must wait, as Joystiq reports the game isn't due out until next month. But, in the mean time, we can read about their exploits with the puzzle game at the Nintendo Media Summit.Played entirely through the touch-screen, the player is charged with holding the DS in the book style (like when playing Brain Age). But, we're happy to report, that even though the folks at Joystiq find the gameplay to be kind of de rigeur as far as puzzlers go, the inclusion of full voice chat between two players over Wi-Fi Connect, along with up to four players over ad-hoc gameplay, should instill some more value into the title.%Gallery-3456%

  • Sorry sir, but you can't bring that dual-screened handheld in here

At a recent screening for the third Pirates of the Caribbean film, one critic was denied entry with his DS. Turns out, security made him take it back to his car because they mistook it for a recording device. Yup, the dual-screened handheld (unconfirmed if it was a Lite or not) was not allowed into the screening for fear that it was some sort of video capture device. Of course, a simple boot up of the machine clearly reveals it to be for video games (most people know to associate the name Nintendo with video games, wouldn't you say?), but security still wasn't having it.It's weird because cell phones lacking a camera attachment were allowed to enter the screening, so in hindsight the author says he should've just said it was one of those. GameSpot got their grubby little mitts on some new screens for Ubisoft's upcoming rhythm-based game Jam Sessions. As you already know, we're pumped to get our hands on the final product, having seen video and screens of the game before. These latest screens don't show much in the way of new as far as the game goes, but having covered it for quite some time, we basically know what we're getting into by now. You'll be able to get your jam on once the game releases come this Q3.

  • Snazzy velcro cases wrap your DS Lite in style

Japanese manufacturer Suono has got their finger on the pulse of trendy DS Lite cases, manufacturing some of the most visually appealing cloth cases we've ever seen. Sure, they're not as functional as the case we already use, but we can't deny the sheer pleasure we'd feel as we whipped our DS Lite out from within the stylish confines of one of Suono's smooth cotton cloth cases. The addition of a velcro strip only makes us want one even more. The price for the case is really the only thing we can imagine would deter one from ordering, as each one will cost you over $30 USD, not to mention the addition of shipping. But with the variety of styles available, price can't get in your way forever. So, with that in mind, any of you out there planning on ordering one of these up?[Via Famitsu]

Nothing more than the greatest news ever, Bloomberg Japan brings word that a fifth installment in our favorite lawyer-em-up franchise will hit retail as Capcom firmly plucks it from our dreams and brings it violently crashing into reality. We're sure that such an announcement is causing likewise symptoms in yourself (wobbling knees and sweaty palms), so in the interest of allowing you to escape your monitor's gaze with a majority of your health intact, we'll conclude this post by stating that there just isn't anything else left to state. The game is coming and now we all know. Rejoice![Via Go Nintendo]

Remember when we talked about those special download kiosks that were littered around Disneyland for the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End premiere? Well, it didn't take long before one fine reader, who is known on these vast internets as "Jesus," took a picture and sent it in. Honestly, we're unimpressed and were thinking these download spots would be more in-line with the theme, like swashbuckling us away lest we download their precious booty. Oh well, chalk that up to another instance where our imagination outclasses reality.

If you've played any of the handheld Legend of Zelda games, you're probably familiar with Flagship. The development studio for Capcom has been involved with Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, as well as the older titles Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. The development studio isn't being disbanded as the fine folks at Clover have been, instead they will still keep their jobs. The name Flagship may be disappearing, but its employees will live on as they resume their normal posts under Capcom.Just remember when changing those business cards that you avoid making them too stylish lest you suffer the wrath of a certain New York city murderer from the 80s.

Reports from the battlefield involving last night's Game Night encounter tell of several races going down in Mario Kart DS. Not only that, but Intelligence reports of enemy chatter involving something called "Poke-E-Mans," which may or may not be biological experiments where men were created into vicious beasts that battle for amusement. We're going to have to double check that and get back to you.In the meantime, vote for next week's theme game below. What should we play on 5/24/07? • Delta DS download stations hit JFK airport

Sure, we reported on this quite some time ago, but the program is expanding at an incredible rate. With the latest download kiosk hitting New York's JFK airport, we find ourselves that much closer to living in a world populated with the wonderful machines. Why, even when they become sentient and rise up, crushing their squishy meat bag oppressors, we'll be fine so long as they still offer demo downloads of Elite Beat Agents and Cooking Mama. The kiosk available at JFK currently has demo versions of Elite Beat Agents, Brain Age, Cooking Mama and Tomb Raider: Legend (ouch). Kiosks can also be currently found at Delta terminals at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. No word on how often the software is updated as Nintendo says it will be "updated periodically and will showcase everything from brain training to action games, appealing to baby boomers and seniors, and to teens and kids."Hopefully they'll start giving out DS Lites for flights soon, as they have in Japan for quite some time.
