For us, it's hard to not surround ourselves in everything gaming. Posters, figurines and, well ... games. It just comes with the territory, much to the dismay of everyone in our life who isn't appreciative of the art (these people exist, we assure you), so receiving such a gift that pays homage to one of our most favorite games would be excellent on a gift-receiving occasion. For a look at this bad boy in action, head past the break where we've embedded some video.

  • Going hands-on with SimCity DS

Joystiq recently got their hands on the upcoming U.S. localization of SimCity DS and they seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. They talk a lot about the transition from SimCity 3000 to the DS and what kind of changes, for the better and worse, the game has undergone. They even talk over a minigame involving Santa Claus, where he flies over the city and the player must tap the screen to make him drop presents. These presents allow for improvements to the city or turn into new buildings.SimCity DS even features a landmark trading mode, not unlike the Nintendogs Bark Mode. Sadly, this doesn't work online, so you're going to need to find someone out in the real world (GASP!) in order to take advantage of the feature. The game is currently slated for a June release in the United States.

For those of you unaware exactly what the franchise is, the Wikipedia page for Sega's game series is fairly enlightening. The game's announcement was made during an event held by Sega in Japan on the 13th, as they confirmed the latest entry in the series will be gracing the DS and is to feature characters from the three branches of the franchise's main fighting group: Imperial Flower Branch, Paris Flower Branch and New York Flower Branch.IGN also reports that Japanese Gemaga magazine scored an interview with Sega's series producer Ouji Hiroi. The next issue of the magazine is set to hit news stands over there on the 30th, so expect more details on the game to surface then.

By way of Japanese Senaka blog, we receive word that several Japanese retailers are stocking up on DS Lites, causing us to wonder if the almost impossible feat of finding one in the country is becoming a task much easier, akin to crafting a delicious sandwich or retrieving your mail from the post box outside your home. We'd like to think so, because the more people who own a DS (we suggest you go Lite), the better! And this isn't just one little shop, apparently, as Senaka blog reports on a few of the retail chains having more than a couple in stock (and some even on the shelves).

Famitsu has revealed that a special bundle is in the works for the upcoming It's a Wonderful World, with a special edition DS Lite to boot. Set to release alongside the game on July 27th in Japan and where the game will sell for 5980 Yen (or $49.76 US), the price for the bundle has yet to be determined. Regardless of when it releases, we just hope they put some thought into the design of the special edition DS Lite and don't slap it together like some other special edition DS Lites we've seen.

We all know that you can teach phrases and words to those in your town in Animal Crossing: Wild World. So, this latest news of an 11-year-old girl named Khloe Leslie seeing the F bomb in her game is of no surprise to us. Of course, for her residents to learn such a word, they'd need to be taught it. The story never says whether this was a used copy of the game or not, so we're really forced to speculate on how the naughty word got into the game. Her mother, Leeanne, has since banned her from playing the game. What kind of phrases have you taught your residents in Animal Crossing: Wild World? And let's keep it clean, folks![Thanks, Gordon!]

Last night was chock full of Pokemans, both battling and trading, and we really felt the impact this game has had on the community. It really is like the release of Blue & Red all over again. As such, we realize that some of you out there who enjoy Game Night might not enjoy the monopoly the new Pokemon games have on our beloved appointment every week. As such, we're going to exclude it from the poll for next week's game. This won't stop those of you who want to play it from doing so, but at least the rest of you can have your voices heard and won't sit there in the chat bored. What should we play on 5/17/07? • Mobile Suit DS Lite

As if packing 500 characters, 300 mobile suits, and over 120 stages from 15 different Gundam series wasn't fan service enough, Bandai Namco plans to release a special edition DS Lite bundle with SD Gundam G Generation Cross Drive. The customized, crystal-white handheld will feature the same red branding seen on Amuro Ray's Rx-93 ν Gundam in the animated film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. It's doubtful that the strategy-RPG game or the DS Lite will ever make it stateside, so interested parties will likely have to settle for importing when the title hits Japanese shelves this August 9th. The bundle's 21,840 yen price tag comes out to approximately $183, but expect to pay a premium if you're buying from an online shop. Head past the post break for a look at SD Gundam G Generation Cross Drive's packaging and screenshots.

You've heard it was coming, took a gander at some screens and even seen some video of it in action. So, you're probably wondering just when you'll be able to get your hands on the game, right? Well, Japan will be receiving it this Summer, but for everyone else, that's still undetermined. Hopefully, we'll get it sometime this year also.Of course, Europe will probably get it in 2010 (sorry, guys).

For those of you on their mailing list, you might've noticed GameStop is offering more bang for your buck in trading in your GBA SP or DS Phat toward that DS Lite, giving $30 and $60 bucks respectively in trade-in credit towards the slim, dual-screened handheld. Why, that's almost half the cost of the thing when getting rid of your Phat, so why wouldn't you take advantage of the offer? Maybe you don't have the store where you live or you just love your Phat too much to part with it. Regardless of the reason, we still think you need to get your hands on a Lite. They're just ... just ... just so beautiful.[Thanks, Brian!]

  • Dragon Quest IX ditches the Wi-Fi Connect?

    05.09.2007

Apparently, a couple of scans from the latest Famitsu over at Jeux-France showcase new screens for the upcoming Square Enix romp Dragon Quest IX., but portray the omission of a very important game feature: Wi-Fi Connect compatibility. Well, perhaps that's a bit of an overstatement, as the article apparently does say that Wi-Fi will be used "for something else" aside from what we would normally expect it to include (co-op gameplay, versus multiplayer etc.). That isn't to say this is all set in stone, though. The page has been translated by an individual (registration required) over at The Platformers, so we're mainly going on their translation (darn our inability to read Japanese!).
