  • Nyko introduces Intercooler TS for Xbox 360 and PS3

Hopefully the days of the RRoD are behind us ... but just in case, Nyko has introduced its new Intercooler TS today. Unlike the old Intercooler, this new model has its own AC adapter and has a temperature sensor which activates when there's rapid change, rather than just being perpetually on and using the Xbox 360's power port. It retails for $25, and the original Intercooler will still be available for $20.Nyko tells us that the Intercooler is still its top selling product -- well, technically it said it's the top selling third party product -- for the Xbox 360. Nyko has also released the Intercooler for PS3, but we're not exactly aware of overheating PS3s. The Wii version has been discontinued.

  • Nyko's Media Hub for PS3 inelegantly adds USB ports, multicard reader

Nyko's got a knack for delivering some of the ugliest, most preposterous third-party peripherals on the planet, yet -- for whatever reason -- we can't help but love 'em. The latest abomination from the outfit that begins to grow on you almost immediately is the Media Hub for PlayStation 3. For those that went cheap on the 40GB PS3 and missed out on a multicard reader and the full array of USB ports, this here adornment presumably connects to one of those USB sockets and adds three more while tossing in the card reader you've so dearly missed. Thankfully, Nyko's only charging $19.99 for this, so you should be okay even if your ship has yet to come in.[Via Joystiq]

  • Nyko Media Hub adds USB ports, SD card support to 40GB machines

The cheaper 40GB is missing a few features, the most noteworthy being backwards compatibility with PS2 games. However, it has a few other minor quirks. For example, it only has two USB ports, instead of four, and it's missing some memory card readers. (The 20GB launch machine is also missing memory card readers.) Well, Nyko will have none of that nonsense! From the press release: "We found that many of our customers who had purchased the popular 40 GB version of the PS3, which has less USB ports and no media card reader, were looking for an affordable solution to expand with these features," said Chris Arbogast, Director of Marketing at Nyko Technologies. "With the Media Hub, an additional three USB ports and a media card reader are now possible for all PS3 models, allowing consumers to enjoy the full capabilities of their multimedia system no matter which model they choose." The Media Hub is expected to hit stores in August, with a rather steep asking price of $20.

If you opted to save some green and snag one of the 40GB PlayStation 3s, you may have found you're missing more than just backwards compatibility. You're also missing the flash card readers and two of would-be four USB ports.Never ones to leave a shortcoming un-peripheraled, Nyko has announced the decidedly fugly Media Hub for the PlayStation 3, a dongle that attaches to one of your PS3's USB ports, adds 2 additional ports, an SD slash Memory Stick reader (no Compact Flash, sorry), all while totally trashing the sleek aesthetic Sony was going for. Now all you need is a backwards compatibility dongle and you're all set.

  • Deal of the Day: Nyko Zero Wireless Controller for $25

We'd have to admit, these controllers by Nyko are rather unfortunate looking. However, if you want a spare controller around in case a friend you don't like so much comes over, you can't beat these. The controller isn't without its merits; it is cheap, it includes a both a rechargeable battery and a AA battery pack if you don't wait for the controller to charge, it also claims to have "Six-Direction Tilt & Vibration." Keep in mind, though the controller is wireless, it isn't Bluetooth. The color of the controller is also determined randomly. Did we mention it is ugly?[Via Slickdeals.net]

  • Nintendo sues Nyko over nunchucks, ninjas still silent

It looks like Nyko's nunchuck controllers for the Wii could possibly be getting a whole lot more limited, at least if a recently filed lawsuit plays out the way Nintendo would like. As Bloomberg reports, Nintendo is claiming that Nyko's wireless Kama nunchucks not only infringe on its trademarks for the Nunchuk name and packaging, but that they wholly appropriate the "novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller." For its part, Nyko is not surprisingly only saying that it has "not knowingly violated anyone's intellectual property," and that they're "still examining this."[Via Wii Fanboy]

That Kama Wireless Nunchuck we're giving away may become something of a collector's item in the near future. Nintendo has sued Nyko, manufacturer of the device, claiming that the Kama violates Nintendo's patents for the original Nunchuk, imitating the controller in "novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller."Nyko spokesperson C.C. Swiney told Bloomberg that they do not believe that they have violated Nintendo's patents with the Kama, but that they are "still examining this." We've had a look at both controllers ourselves, and we think they're actually pretty different. If you look closely at the Nintendo Nunchuk, you can see that it has a cord coming out of it.Could Nintendo have their own wireless Nunchuk on the way? Or have they decided to start cracking down on third-party controllers now after over 20 years for some other reason? Is the Kama really that similar to the Nunchuk? [Via Kotaku]

Nintendo may not make a wireless nunchuk controller, but it'll be gosh darned if someone else is going to do it. Bloomberg reports that Nintendo has sued peripheral manufacturer Nyko over its Kama Nunchuk (pictured above). The Big N claims the design infringes on its trademarks, contending the Kama "appropriates the novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller."Nyko reportedly responded that it didn't "knowingly" violate the company's patent and is looking into the issue. Nintendo wants cash for Nyko infringing on two of its patents and to stop selling the product. The Kama retails for $35 and, given Nintendo's legal war chest, if you're in the market for a wireless nunchuk, now's probably a good time to get it before it's gone. Perhaps this is a sign Nintendo is up to a wireless nunchuk of its own, or would that be something only "geeks and otaku" would be interested in?[Via Kotaku]

If you're anything like our boy Ryan, you've been wearing that Wii Fit out ever since you took delivery. Unfortunately, you've probably been doing a bit of unintentional jogging when logging miles back and forth to the local mini-mart for batteries. If you can't seem to keep your Wii Balance Board charged, Nyko has introduced a novel solution: the Energy Pack for Wii Fit. Our pals over at Nintendo Wii Fanboy were able to get ahold of this very unit and put it through its paces, and generally speaking, they were quite impressed with the $20 peripheral-for-a-peripheral. Head on over for the full writeup and a smattering of pics.

When I first looked at the Nyko Energy Pack, a rechargeable battery pack designed for the Balance Board, I was dubious. I had no problem believing that the thing could function (as in be charged and make the balance board work), but I thought the form factor indicated a hack job. As it turns out, that was dumb and wrong of me. Though it may look unmistakably kludgey (involving a battery pack to which a cord is attached, which is then attached to another cord, which then goes to the wall), the Energy Pack is smartly designed, unobtrusive, and easy to use.%Gallery-22504%

Update: Sorry, got our dates confused. The post has been fixed.Nyko wants you to know they've come up with a solution for the Balance Board's power consumption, making sure they get in on the cash cow others think it will be. It's a rechargeable battery pack that will release on May 19th, for a MSRP of $19.99. The cool thing about this rechargeable battery pack is that, in order to recharge it, you won't even need to unplug it from the Balance Board. You can charge and play at the same time.Hit up the gallery below for some screens of the accessory at work.%Gallery-22504%[Via press release]
